Trayvon Martin had just turned 17-years-old. He was a Junior in High School. He could not vote. He could not buy cigarettes. If he had a job, he would have been protected under the Child Labor Laws of this Country.
Trayvon was not a child, but he was not a man. He was in that great transitional period every young person goes through. He was excited about Prom (kid) and preparing for College (adult). He will never do either of those things.
Trayvon was not perfect. I dont expect anyone to be perfect. He has made his mistakes, but mistakes I expect to be made by a young kid his age. Ive seen 1,000 times worse. He, in my opinion, seemed like a bright kid testing his boundaries.
Im not going to question what discipline Trayvons parents gave him for his troubles? Frankly, its none of my business? Just like its not my business to know how each and every person here disciplines their children? Thats your business.
I am able to admit that I do think Trayvons race played some role in his death. Its sad, but its real. Its a tough reality that things like this happen
but they happen. It doesnt make it better to just ignore it or refuse to believe it? Nothing can be learned from Trayvons death if we ignore it. Wed just be right back to the same place eventually.
There is something to learn from Trayvons death. Theres a lot to learn. You just have to be willing to listen. I listen to what my heart tells me. My heart never lies.
Justice for Trayvon
