They have made it very clear the last few days that they did not want to hear an apology at this point. And then he lied in the apology??? They have suffered enough, they didn't need to sit through that charade today. IMO.

Absolutely. So what are we up to at this point, is this story 6 or 7?

Best proof yet that no matter what GZ does, he will be maligned and hated...

ITA. Weren't a whole bunch of posters here upset Zimmerman didn't say he was sorry. Well now he did and they are upset over that.

Best proof yet that no matter what GZ does, he will be maligned and hated. It's a no-win for him so why bother even trying or listening to what the Martins want?

I agree. I wonder if this is how I came off during the CA saga. I know I had her convicted before she even went to trial. I feel ashamed of myself now. (But I do believe it was proven she was guilty in trial).

Nejame says this was an attempt to "humanize" Zimmerman. To me, it makes him look depraved!!!

What they were just talking about on In Session is that his parents didn't want a private apology, they wanted it public...So I guess I don't get the big deal. If he didn't apologize, that would be talked about too. JMO

It was assumed that GZ would be making a statement to the court, not the family. I have never seen a defendant directly address a victim's family except in the sentencing phase. I have never seen it in a bond hearing.

I do find it interesting that the judge ordered GZ not to "directly or indirectly" contact Trayvon's family. I understand that as no one will be allowed to make a statement to the family on GZ's behalf.

To express the horror that the parents felt?? MOO.

They have made a vow to attend every hearing.

Do they not expect for things to be said and done in the court room that will be upsetting?

This is a murder 2 case of their son.

The court allowed GZ to speak. It was his right.

  • #627
His speech was sure clear in court compared to the 911 call. No slurring words. IMO

  • #628
What do you think is the end result of it though? Do you think it really matters to the parents? They probably don't believe a word out of his mouth. Besides, that's not what TM's mother said last week:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/polit...r-conviction/2012/04/11/gIQAjEp5AT_story.html

That doesn't say anything about the family wanting a public apology.

More parsing of this grieving mother's words.

Didn't the family just say that they reject Gz wanting to meet with them, after GZ's attorney said publicly that he may want to apologize???

What was that about? Was it implied that GZ sent an email to Martin's father and he said no he doesn't remember?

The implication was that he sent an email to someone about Tracy Martin.

I have been watching HLN and they re only showing snippets of the attorneys after the hearing. I saw O/mara and Crump and a little of Natalie J.

Imo, Omara seemed business like and tried to stay on point. But I felt like Crump and Jackspn were trying very hard to escalate the level of heightened emotions, and spent a lot of time discussing the ultimate in emotional moments, like the Martins picking out their sons suit for his casket, and Tracey crying through the apology. It seemed awkward to me. Like it was forced. imo

You gotta love the irony of a court system that's going to turn a killer back loose amongst those of us who live here, yet required him to be bound and shackled while in their presense in the courtroom. :banghead:

This case is going to be just as bad as the last one. It is interesting that some will see black and some will see white (figuratively) while few will see any gray areas. Today showed us one thing: GZ is a liar. His non-emergency taped call proves that he thought Trayvon was a teenager. Now he is saying he thought Trayvon was close to his age of nearly 30.

I can't afford to be here through all of this craziness like I did for the last BIG Florida Trial. I can't afford to gain weight sitting here trying to remain open-minded. I hope that there is a fair and truthful trial yet I wholeheartedly believe that it will be just as manipulated and twisted as the last big one. This is going to be another long drawn out horrible case. IMO

This occurred in a court of law. GZ is the defendant. GZ has the right to be heard, or have his lawyer speak for him. Anyone who doesn't want to hear from GZ should consider avoiding the courtroom. Justice is when both sides are heard, not just one and not just what one side wants to hear. Just think of the horrors Dr. Petit had to sit through! That's our system, like it or not.

JMO, OMO, and :moo:

I didn't say he didn't have a right to be heard. He's got a lot at stake here but the timing was clearly self serving to me.

IMOO!:banghead:

A Jailbroken iPhone can have the EXIF data on photos altered on the fly. There are other programs that can do the same thing once the photo is downloaded to a computer. Again, LEO have tools that detect this.

EXACTLY.....electronic devices seem to be assumed by some to be some sort of an untouchable "god" or space alien (sorry Kimster)....they are designed and programmed by HUMANS, (really, it's true!!) and as such ANYTHING that they are designed or programmed to DO, that action can also be altered or undone.

Just another attempt to make excuses for GZ.

his self serving apology has nothing to do with the Petits.

And as far as the Petit's, were there these same types of excuses for the murderers of his family? I don't recall everything said in the threads here about that case, but I highly doubt that it was ever said that nothing was forced on Mr Petit, if he didn't want to hear it he could he just left? As if to say, too bad for Mr Petit?

It's an apples/oranges comparison.

JMHO

My point is: A court of law is not where one goes if one does not want to hear both sides of the story. Any family member who does not want to hear from the defendant should avoid the courtroom at all costs.

OT: JK's trial was a litany of excuses, as well as blaming Dr. Petit for not being man enough to save his family. I don't know how that the doctor sat through it. He's made of stronger stuff than I.

About the picture: I'm not an expert on head wounds by far but I've seen quite a few...and they either didn't bleed or bled profusely .....I have never seen blood on any wound for that matter just stop flowing, how is that even possible? especially in the rain, the rain would mix with the blood....
The "apology" was absolutely horrible IMO the least he could have done is fake empathy since he's unable to show actual emotion.....to say "he thought Trayvon was just a little younger than him" IMO was a HUGE mistake....doesn't that show pre-meditation????what is he saying,he had time to think whether or not the person was old enough to be shot????what,it would have been ok if Trayvon would have been a little older?

I think it shows he's willing to lie to save his butt or make himself look less culpable. He clearly knew TM was a "kid" (his own words in the 911 tape) along with the fact that he told the dispatcher he was in his late teens. I have a feeling we'll be hearing many more changed versions by GZ before this is all over.

So now Zimmerman gets out, will have a secret protected location and have plenty of time to be groomed for his trial.
Florida sure loves to hide and protect killers. MOO :maddening:

Usually you first hear an apology during a sentencing hearing or strapped to the gurney.

I'm not really sure where else he could of done this, issuing a press release is impersonal.
It's been 50 or so days, he has plenty of time to express his remorse, he had many, many avenues to apologize. His statement at the bond hearing was not an apology, no remorse whatsoever. If they were trying to humanize him, they failed.

GZ has had several friends/family members speak on his behalf. He could have had his dad, brother, and/or two friends express sorrow for what happened... say how awful GZ feels.

I don't recall much talk of this ilk. It's been 99% defending GZ. So today's apology looks extremely insincere, like a big, LATE put on for the court and cameras.
