18 y/o Black male shot dead by Police in St Louis suburb of Berkeley MO

The entire situation looked strange, I thought maybe the boys were waiting for the girls and baby, but didn't seem very thrilled about them being there. AM was lagging behind...

Yes the girls/baby seem strange too. Notice they walk right up to the cop car as well, and then move behind it. Who approaches cop cars like that when officers are busy? Especially with a baby? Folks may WATCH but they watch from a distance.

Didn't someone here say the guys girlfriend was wearing the same outfit as one of the two females in the video?

Also..on a sidenote, on another forum there have been comments regarding the photo of the gun on the ground. Apparently that photo shows the SAFETY WAS ON! Which could explain why the officer isn't dead.

I'd also read on some of those forums that this particular model of gun has "problems" with jamming or problems with the safety sliding off/on, etc. Take with a grain of salt, and all that jazz.

So, essentially, instead of being a story that confirms this narrative of racist cops, this is instead a perfect example of the twisted thuggery that permeates so many of these "communities" where these incidents happen.

I had said that about the girlfriend and the clothes, and supposedly the dad said that AM was going out to meet his girlfriend, but, sorry, don't know where I read it.

Let me just comment on something said earlier in this thread. Livestreamers are journalists. When breaking news happens these days, often the most up to date info comes from social media and I often see MSM using it as direct sources. Obviously this can backfire terribly as it did for HuffPo. Streamers will cover stories that MSM don't pay attention to or cover fairly. Having a press pass or working for a network doesn't make you a journalist. Sharing stories and if you ignore independent media you ignore the future of news.

That said, streamers are there to tell a story. To document events. Interview people. The streamer is not the story. I am aware that few streamers use it as a platform to directly instigate the cops which is counter intuitive but the vast majority of streamers don't do this.

^^ Yeah, live streamers like Tim Pool are journalists, not RebZ, Bassem, and ShortStack. Not by a long shot. :hilarious:

I don't trust most MSM either, but the above people are so far from journalists it's not even funny. (Well, it is actually funny but that's beside the point)

I just noticed something else. When I first saw the 3rd cam video the right side was cropped, it LOOKED like the cop ran backwards and then took off in pursuit of someone. In Mrs. G's video it shows more, he does NOT run after someone else, he is running AWAY from the encounter.

I think that strongly supports the ambush theory, and I also bet Antonio said something to the cop when he pulled the gun on him. If he DID say something (Pigs will fly or whatever) that would explain why the cop freaked out and got so far away from the scene.

When these tragedies happen, why is that any wrongdoing by the deceased has to immediately be declared off-limits, "racist" or papered over by a sociological discussion of things that occurred in previous generations? A million excuses.

But even pointing a gun at a police Officier is not a sufficent "excuse" to stop rioting, damage, obscene behavior.

This is being noticed by more and more people. Any national dialogue will not be dictated to be one-sided. The Racebaiters who show up at each of these events, encourate hate, division, destruction and violence...and then return to their own posh lifestyles...will NOT control the conversation anymore.

Honestly I think more and more people are so darn sick of the b.s. they have NO desire for any sort of "national dialogue". The problem has existed for 150 years now and no amount of "talking" makes it any better.

Anthony Samad(black columnist, activist, author....) highlights some obvious and valid points for the black community to wrap their heads around.
I don't have a specific reference, I believe it was in his 5 part, Between the lines, "50 solutions to the black dilemma."

He mentioned the national average dress size for black women was a size 22. His comments were around questioning blacks if the white man was also causing black obesity, high blood pressure and diabetes too.

He questioned the black community to explain how the white man was also causing black on black crime.

He questioned the black community to explain how the white man was also causing blacks to sell drugs to one another.

His point was painfully obvious, however I will word it this way.........My interpretation of his written word is/was this.

The black communities have allowed race baiters to trick them into a form of slavery called victimhood. Always a victim no matter the facts or the subject. As long as the black community willing submits to the role of victims in everything, they can never rise above it and better themselves collectively.

He stresses the need to return to family and self responsibility.

The topic is about the young man shot by the police. Please keep to that topic and the facts involved.

Sounds good, and ITA. Problem is, where do we, black and white start this return to family and self responsibility? There are some good books out there, written by black men, that give a lot of insight. I would give urls here, but it's probably against tos. Look 'em up on Amazon if you really want the truth.

The firearm involved appears to be a Hipoint semi auto in 9mm. It does appear the safety is in the "safe"/no fire position from the photo. I doubt it was legally obtained new by him as the 4473 form has specific questions around mental issues, drugs, crime, etc.

Seems that gun retails new from below $200USD to 250ish at a reputable gun dealer/gun store.

Had the attempted shooter remembered to take the safety off, the officer would likely be deceased now.

Hard to determine solely from just the vids whether it was a setup/ambush but the officer reacted as one should, react with force while distancing one's self from the lethal act or if ambushed react force on force and clear the kill zone.

Now we understand Terry v Ohio and why a cop has a right to frisk for weapons during an interaction.

I think there is a huge difference between those who engage in journalism as an occupation and those who do not. As an occupation and to receive a press credential there are Bar/Press guidelines and ethical requirements that must also be adhered to. Livestreamers who do so as a hobby or interest are not bound by such standards and the viewer has to decide for themselves whether the recorder of events has a bias.

The shooting of this young man is a tragedy for his family and for the officer involved. Nobody wins. What a shame.

BBM above: Live streamers are not journalists!

Live streamers are just recording what's happening around them & providing their comments . . .

The art of Journalism is dead -- Storytelling is not Journalism IMHO

Why is this even news? Because he's black? Because it happened in Missouri? Because the officer is white?

He pulled a gun on an officer and the media tries to play it off like it's just another cop shooting a helpless black male.

Sent from my SGH-T769 using Tapatalk 2

do we know the officer is white? I mean Berkeley is 85% black, even the elected officials & PD

has the officer's name been outed? Thanks

The dash cam works when the lights are on, the car does not have to be running.
However when responding to a theft at a store you don't generally use your lights.

I don't think the officer pulled up on a reported theft and then exited his car with it still running.
That's a great way to get your ride stolen. :twocents:

Perhaps the dash cams should simply run 24-7?
The problem is that they only store a certain amount of time.
So odds are if they were running constantly the footage we would want would be erased anyway. :twocents:

no way would ANYONE keep a vehicle running in that area, even cops!

in some communities it's illegal to have your car running without you in it 'cause it's gonna get stolen :)

I didn't ask for an explanation. I already conceded that it was probably a justified shooting. But my point is, there is a level of distrust for LE. Right or wrong that cannot be disputed. This officer was given a bodycam to wear that day. With all that has been going on, he should have done his job and wore the bodycam. Get those dashcams on 24/7. It is for the safety of everyone, including and especially LE. I am speaking about making things better going forward. You seem to be advocating maintaining status quo as it is the criminals who should be changing their ways. But guess what, they are criminals, that change is gonna be a long road. LE are the professionals, the authority. Even if they don't believe they have earned any distrust, can't they step up and show us all why we should trust them?
You continue to attack my posts and all I am doing is offering discussion over and over as to how we can make things better.

1) all cops in North America wear bodycams
2) all cops start standing up to and turn in their fellow officers who cross the legal line
3) dash cams in all squad cars and turned on 24/7
4) PR campaigns aimed at educating the public on what their rights are when interacting with LE

These are just ideas from an amateur sleuth. You are the Pro, you tell me if you think they will work. But at least start moving the discussion in a direction of positive change.

You do realize that the police cameras are intended to protect police, not the other way around? They gained in popularity after Omaha police officer Jimmy Wilson was executed while seated in his police cruiser. A perpetrator has no idea whether a police officer has a camera turned on or off. Every child in America knows at an early age that police officers carry guns. If the child grows to distrust cops, that's not the problem of police. Police don't trust anybody who points a gun at them and I can understand that logic.

I'm not sure about that and there's research to back up blacks are more likely to die in encounters with LE than whites. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC1447171/ and this study found blacks were 21 times more likely to be shot by police than whites This is what the protesters are looking at. They don't think these young men are saints. They think if they were white they'd still be breathing.

The fact that this officer had two cameras that weren't on just makes the situation worse. I think the dashcam needs to be recording whenever the car is running, not just when the lights are on.

One thing all of these events makes clear is that there needs to be a national database of people who are killed as a result of encounters with police.

BBM above: Fact is there's video of the event !!! more tax $$$$$$$$$$$$ are needed to get body cams on LE

national dB of people who are killed as a result of encounters with police? I am sure there is the capability to do this AT LEAST with those reported via LSM . . . is there a dB of officers killed by perps?

Archangel it looks like the gun was loaded with FMJ ammo, is it normal for street thugs to use that? Or was this guy just cheap/stupid?

(For those not familiar with handguns, Full Metal Jacket ammo is usually sold for target practice and it is often cheaper than self defense rounds, it doesn't expand like hollowpoint).
