I think so yes. I think he didn't get close enough to the trunk that day- 6/24 -to have raised a "stink" -- I think Casey was surprised to see him there and kept him away from the trunk.

But, and here is where I have my new issue with George's story...She abandoned that car either very late in the night on the 26th, or very early morning on the 27th...She began telling stories to Amy on the 25th about the squirrels or her dad hitting something when he borrowed her car...

SO

There is no way that car was not already wreaking of decomp on the 24th, when she gave him his gas cans back, and there is NO way that there was no smell of decomp ON THOSE CANS when they were locked in the same trunk from which the decomp smell was originating...

There is STILL something hinky here...something wrong...

I'm sorry I disagree. All he said was he didn't like the smell. LE let him leave it at that. George may very well know what he smelled, but if he is no longer cooperating, then his statement really means nothing and is of no use.

Again, what is with these interviewers (except Yuri) allowing everyone to be vague and gloss over events? It's very frustrating to me...

I'm only going by watching cop shows on television, but they say "like" a lot, such when talking about liking a suspect for a crime. Could George have been using cop slang words in describing not liking this smell? Whether he was or not, I'm sure he knew what the smell was.

A bit OT but not really.

Something I noticed in relation with George's and Cindy's interviews. George keeps referring to Cindy as MY WIFE (a more emotional way to describe his wife) while Cindy kept referring to him as GEORGE. Telling the LE you should ask George, George will remember this, George was working that weekend, George this and that.

While George kept saying MY WIFE was working, MY WIFE AND I, MY WIFE was thinking of visiting my parents, MY WIFE etc etc.

I found that really interesting. I am not sure it means anything but still I found it very interesting.

Other than Caylee, George is, to me, the most sympathetic person in this whole situation. I base that mostly due to these interviews. I think he was being completely candid in his responses. I think that by qualifying the statement that he didn't like the smell of the car with the statement "I'm going to be honest with you guys" he is essentially saying "I know this incriminates the hell out of my daughter."

In these last weeks I've been trying to imagine how I would feel if someone accused one of my family members of murder. My family members don't have a history of lies behind them like Casey has. I can't imagine what would be the tipping point where I'd say, "OK, you have a point." I think his heart knows what his head is not accepting--or vice versa. You talk about these things with LE and acknowledge it's all shady as anything, then you go home to this person you created and you do not want to believe she's capable of what the facts indicate. I don't know what I'd do. Who's to say he's not spending all that off-camera time calling her a liar? I just don't know.

My husband always refers to me as "my wife" when talking about me. I have heard him on the phone that way and the only time he refers to me by name is when talking to family. My mother - he says my name. My sisters - he says my name. My kids - he says Mom. His friends or anyone else - he says my wife.

Yup that's what I meant.

Couple thoughts about gas can recovery:

1) What he says to law enforcement is a sworn statement. What he says to a member of the media is not.

2) I think because of this, his story to Greta about the gas cans was inaccurate for one of a couple of reasons. Either he was trying to keep what he told LE a secret from Cindy (I don't think he wanted to dash her hopes of finding Caylee alive), OR he himself was holding out hope. If he was holding out hope, perhaps he thought altering the story would give the general public more hope, thereby leaving open the possibility that the public would be more forthcoming with tips.

I think when GA DID confront his daughter re gas cans (same day he discovered them missing), that was all he was really thinking about or looking for at the time--so once she shoved them at him angrily, he interpreted this simply as being defensive about having been caught with the stolen cans since by then she's already basically being kicked out for all the stealing). As for his "tiptoeing around" these two manipulative, volatile females, seems to me many men attempt to do just that when living with controlling women. And for the record, from what I've read re this couple's history GA may have had much "atoning" to do with his wife for his own trespasses--during which it seems to me the wronged spouse often assumes a position of greater power or control. I disliked the GA we've seen in the media and distrusted his "blind" angry allegiance to his family but found him surprisingly sympathetic in the interview. My "jury" is still out though re whether Casey may have needed his sort of expertise where chloroform/clean-up was concerned. He was, afterall, not only former LE but auto detailer. And if he has some complicity in the cover-up, he's done his daughter ultimately a terrible disservice.

I totally agree with you. GA to me, has come across as honest and sincere. After listening to his audio interview, I feel that even more. He's completely trapped at this point.

ITA. Also, in his statement to LE, he says that he didn't get close enough to see into the trunk before Casey pushed past him and practically ran to get the cans before he could. If the car was outside in the driveway and he wasn't that close, it might not have been horrific.

A smell can get a lot worse in a short time, especially in that heat - has anyone ever spilled milk in their car? It only takes a short time to get really bad. I would think this would be a million times worse. So while it might have been noticable inside the car or when you opened the trunk on the 24th, and bad enough to ditch the car on the 27th, it could have been overwhelming by the 30th (almost a week later).

We also have to take into account that the smell might have been made worse by the idea that there was leakage on the 27th when/if the body was moved from the car. Sorry to be gross, but I can't get Leonard P's description of a body in a bag out of my head. Ugh.

still can not get a link to open for georges interview--help please

I totally agree. I can sympathize even with Cindy....although I suppose she has not been as forthcoming as George and Lee. I see her as a desperate woman who inexplicably finds herself between a rock and a hard place. She knows she is clinging to straws, they all do...but what is their alternative? Accept the unthinkable fact that their beloved Caylee is gone forever and to add to their grief, that Casey, their flesh and blood, is responsible....what a terrible, terrible situation. I feel so sorry for these people. May God please give them some solace....although honestly, I think their lives at least George's and Cindy's are going to be hell on earth as long as they live.

I wonder too. I thought he said I think you know a lot about a lot of things Geroge.
It was when George was talking about knowing things about cars.
They just dropped it after that and George said nothing. Weird.

I may be wrong but I think I remember in the very beginning of this case that George's father is deceased? Supposedly he is buried in a local cemetary - Chapel Hill Cemetary if I remember right. It is immediately North (on the other side of the water) from J. Blanchard Park - going to try to find info - brb

I'm having the same problem. I have been trying for 2 days now. It's very frustrating!! :banghead:
