Interview with Lt Tammy Uncer 3:42 pm Corrections Center
11:35 we took her down to medical to view the TV to see what was happening prior to her attorney getting her. Mental health staff was waiting for her to observe her to see if she would need services. Looked at TV breaking. Collapsed into chair. Shallow breathing, sweating hands, wanted cuffs loose as she felt they were getting tight. Red blotchy breakouts. She did not cry, did not look at tv but a couple of times. Audio was on. She could hear the TV and the location of the remains. This went on for 10 minutes. Mental health said then that was enough. Mental health staff asked how she was doing. Mental health did not want to discuss case. Made sure she would not hurt herself. At 12:45 she asked for a sedative. First time she asked if she could have any types of meds in jail. She asked if attorney is coming. Asked Tammy to stay in the room with her. Talking very fast, said it was all surreal and she could not break down. Then began to talk about the Football Championships. She did break down and cry with Jose Baez. Did ask for tissues, he took very little notes. There for 45 minutes before he took notes.
Demeanor after she left with attorney, she was shaking. They did clean out cell. Asked to take a shower to make herself feel better. Took a 10 min shower. Only see top of her head. Did appear to be calmer after shower. Mental health came back and spoke her at Casey’s request. She had been crying.

Very weird to talk to her. Non-emotional when talking. But first time she seen her be emotional and cry.

The officer said they took her to see the TV, could this be something that could keep this out of court ?

I think this might be trouble. JB certainly was angry about the video tape, and I think he alluded to KC being taken to be observed deliberately and how inappropriate he felt that was. My question would be: who made the decision to do it this way? The Jail admin? Was it solely for the purpose of having Casey see mental health?

  • #164
anyone else pick up on how kc started rubbing her hands together? ..like in court?

  • #165
I guess Casey is able to tell herself that reality is not "real", and this was one of the few times that she got a little close to the reality she tries to avoid.

If she had said we took her down to see mental health, as per procedure when someone has something like this happen, it would be better for the state. When I heard her say "we took her to see the TV"...I got worried. :confused:

All facilities differ, but IF this officer was escorting KC to the infirmary for medical reasons prior to her viewing the coverage of the remains being found, it's possible that the officer had her inmate file which the officer may have had permission to read - thus knowing personal medical information/history regarding KC that is priviledged under privacy laws. Or the officer may have had information regarding her medical history because she was on her way to the infirmary....heck I'm just grabbin' straws here. Personally, if they need this evidence to convict, their case isn't very strong against her. Let's hope this is a red herring.

I was thinking that they told her about finding remains and she then asked for medication, thus the trip to the medical area ?

Better for the State if word had already come in (before it hit the media) and they were moving her to the medical area as a precaution (without telling her why.) Then, she might have seen it on the tv while passing through the common area, which is filmed constantly anyway, and the tapes caught her reaction at that time.

Lt. Tammy Uncer would then have seen the reaction in the normal course of escorting KC from one area to another, and the tapes would have been running regardless, as they've already reported they do in the common areas.

That would be a more defensible position for the jail that could not be misconstrued as 'spying' for the State.

I agree, much better if the move was for a reason and they can back that up. I remember the atty for the jail, county, saying that they always take inmates to medical when a loved one has passed or other tragic circumstances. If they can prove that it was SOP and not specific to THIS situation I think it may be admissable.

This part has me befuddled:

"Local 6 News has confirmed that Uncer was the corrections employee who escorted Anthony from her cell and observed her reaction to the news, which she watched on TV in the common area. Anthony also asked for a sedative to calm her down, Local 6 News has learned."

~~~~
Why did they take her from her cell? Why not wait and let Baez or a family member inform her of the find rather than take her to the common area to watch the TV coverage? It's not the prison's job to inform her.
I have never heard that she was "led" away.
I thought she stood up and walked away because that was her choice. Naturally she would need a guard escort to return to her cell.
From the link provided by "tracey276" it states:
'Local 6 News has confirmed that Uncer was the corrections employee who escorted Anthony from her cell and observed her reaction to the news, which she watched on TV in the common area. Anthony also asked for a sedative to calm her down, Local 6 News has learned.'
No where does that state that she was taken by a prison employee to specifically watch the news...I didn't see any other link from Chilly that says otherwise.
Also, a "common area" that the inmate was taken to sounds like an area to wait till she can be taken in to be seen...like a clinic waiting room. It would not be out of the ordinary for a TV to be on in that kind of environment.
I understand the theory here...but, I'm just not buying it.
Maybe I don't understand why anyone would expect a prison guard to escort an inmate to an area she's been instructed to do and then notice that breaking news is playing on the TV in the common area and reach up and turn the channel...
It's not about wanting KC to be treated cruelly...imo.
Except that you are presuming that a prison guard deliberately brought KC to watch breaking news in a common area and that this prison guard was instructed to do so...where is the proof?
We had quite a discussion about whether or not Casey was SPECIFICALLY TAKEN to watch the news coverage of the remains being found.
THE ANSWER IS: YES, SHE WAS. Tammy Uncer said she was taken to watch the news coverage and her reaction was monitored for 10 minutes when mental health staff said "That is enough."
Notes on Tammy's audio interview released on April 6th.
There was quite a bit of discussion on this board earlier as to whether or not Casey "happened" to just see the tv in medical or if they TOOK her there on purpose to view the news.
THE ANSWER IS:
They took her there to see the news and to purposely get a reaction. Below are notes I took during the interview.
I'm still on the fence. When I have more time later I am going back to dig up the links to the statement the jail released about how the whole thing was handled. I think that was released to the media after a motion hearing when JB was fighting against the release of the video tape of Casey hearing the news.
I'm not sure this is going to make it into the court records either.
I agree. The representative for the jail did indeed state that they had followed standard policy and procedure. I also believe it may be admissible if it does not conflict with any HIPPA laws.
She knows shes being recorded so HIPPA is not an issue;)
I was thinking about this too. I don't know what the law is with inmates, but I really am tired of how things operate in this country, and how this could be kept out of court when IMO it shows her guilt - PLAINLY and CLEARLY for all to see.
I know, I know - innocent until proven guilty, right?
Can't help my feelings. This case always seems to invoke the rage in me.
KC's RIGHTS?????
What about Caylee's right to live???!!!!!!!!!!! UGH. I need a self-invoked time out.
Robert Guthrie, an attorney for Orange County, said there was no "conspiracy" to record Casey Anthony's reaction, but that it was routine procedure to give an inmate access to counseling in the medical clinic when faced with bad news.
I believe Tammy U's exact phrase was that someone said, "We think she's had enough". They're busted. It's quite obvious what their intent was for taking her to medical with the TV on and camera's rolling after hearing this. Not only that, TU is repeating what is being said between attorney and client, another no no, isn't it?
A FAKE reaction? How can one fake red blotches on the neck and chest? Listening to the description given by TU made me cry all over again. What a cruel way to be told one's daughter's body has likely been found. And I don't see how this can be compared to LPs drama. I never thought for a minute that would be the real thing. I'm sure Casey had his number before I did. But also, there was never any response that it may be anything by LE, quite different than this. We all knew it was likely Caylee.
Actually, I think this helps the defense, as invasive and disrespectful as it is. But again, it shows the prosecution is desperate for help and was willing to go to extremes to try and help themselves or their case, I'm sad to say. Their attorney can deny it all he wants but this interview spells it out pretty clear.
That was the statement I was thinking about, just hadn't had time to look for it again yet. Appreciate it!
If it is routine procedure to take an inmate to medical when something has happened to a relative etc, so they can make sure the inmate doesn't go off the deep end - then KC wasn't getting "special treatment" and it would be, as reported "routine".
I agree! Innocent until proven guilty my a**!! Casey lost all her rights when she put Caylee in the trunk. She lost her rights when she waited 31 days to report Caylee missing. She lost her rights when she gave LE that bulls**t story about Caylee's whereabouts.
They should have left her in front of that TV until she had another seizure!
OK, I'm joining Seebra in time out. We'll be in the corner...come get us if anything exciting happens :)
Today's big news in the Casey Anthony case was released by mistake. The state attorney's office hadn't meant to put out audio interviews with jail officers about Anthony's reaction to news that her daughter's remains had likely been found.
Jose Baez, Anthony's attorney, hadn't commented on the accidental release of the recordings, WKMG-Channel 6's Mike DeForest said during the 6 p.m. news.
But the stations realized what they had.
"They're the interviews you've been waiting to hear," WFTV-Channel 9 anchor Martie Salt said. "And they said Casey saw it first on Channel 9. "
Funny how the promotion gets mixed in with the news, isn't it?
"The audio recordings will give you insights into Casey Anthony like never before," Salt added.
"It is a stunning and potentially damning account detailing the moments that changed everything: the news that Caylee's remains were likely found," WKMG anchor Jacqueline London said.
She admitted she took her there for the purpose of observing her reaction. Ooops!
By far my favorite was the audio of the lady at the jail who took KC down to the medical area. She did the state no favor admitting that she took her there to "watch the coverage on TV", someone must have raised an eyebrow because she quickly added and to be with a nurse if she should need one. This is exactly what JB told the judge , it was done for the sole purpose of getting her reaction caught on tape. The one who should be fired immediately was the officer who responded to the site the meter reader was at, and never, ever asked him, can you show me, I don't see the bag. Baez is going to have a field day with that one. It makes no sense that he can't get his story together, Yuri is so pissed and frustrated with him, "Why....why....why didn't you?" They fired others for less, that guy is too lazy to be an officer. Unfortunately today may turn out to be a good day for the defense or at least have mixed results.
