Hi, CB - I'm a tad confused. What is it you aren't sure AS believes? Thanks.

That Haleigh is alive. I think she has known all along that Haleigh was gone.

Sykes added the family is doing "as well as we can." "They can say that it's a homicide all they want to, but they've got to prove it to us," she said.

BBM..I find that statement very telling considering she claims she doesn't know what happened to Haleigh...JMO

It's the word, "homicide" that really makes that sentence strange.

I would think the more natural phrase for a grieving relative to say would be "They can say Haleigh is dead all they want to, but they've got to prove it to us.

GGMS may simply be repeating the language that she heard in the statement from LE. The sheriff says it's a homicide. All that means is that Haleigh was killed at the hands of another. (Homicide is not synonymous with "murder," although it is likely to be in this case, I think.) What she might mean is that she won't believe Haleigh is dead and not missing until LE "proves" it. She may not be able to say the word "dead" yet. And if this discussion refers to the video clip I saw, we didn't get the whole context for her remarks. The interviewer may have used the word "homicide" in the question or a previous question. You can't believe how bad some reporters questions are, especially when poking a microphone into the face of the the relatives of the missing or the dead. In general, EmmaPeel summed up the situation very nicely.

i don't want to drift off topic but referring to what Muffet said a few posts back, "this cast of characters". I am just dumbfounded by the variety of personalities and lifestyles we have been introduced to during this case. I just have never met anyone like any of them. Its mindboggling.

Is Annette Sykes Teresa N's mother?

How often have we seen them together, united? I know they appear united because they both seem to support RC to some degree but, they contradict each other so much. Is it true that RC was raised by GGS....and if yes do we know why? TIA

If Grandma Sykes needs proof, she will find it at the end of the trial when the verdict is Guilty.

In no way am I supporting AS but to me, homicide sounds less harsh than murdered or killed. I hate even typing those words.

I don't see anything wrong with "supporting" the great-grandmother, since I think it is very unlikely that she is the kidnapper or murderer. That makes her, as part of Haleigh's family, a victim. These are all people who are not well-spoken or glib in front of a camera. It must be agonizing to have to answer questions about what might have happened to Haleigh. I feel just as bad for Misty's grandmother who says right out loud that she has three grandchildren without remorse. What a lot of sadness and guilt she must have to bear if she believes her three grandchildren (in some combination) killed Haleigh.

I never get the impression that tn and her mother are close; MO is there is tension there.

There was a brief story about ron's growing up told by tn. I used to have it but can't access it. I hope I can find it for you.

But yes, rc, for the most part was raised by AS. I got the impression that he went back to his mom, when his GP became ill. TN must have just got married around that time too, IIRC. They moved alot...a whole lot. I have 24 addys for TN...many in the time frame of rc's teen years.

I am curious if Crystal, rc's sister, also went with AS...never read that though.

I would assume she did. IIRC one of the articles post-arrests said the reason for TN's children living with AS was that CC didn't get along with TN's partner.

ETA:
Anger and a sense of remoteness had marked Cummings for years, said his grandmother Annette Sykes, who reared him and his sister until Sykes' husband became debilitated by Alzheimer's. Annette and Kirby Sykes had guardianship of the two children beginning when Ronald was 3. He moved out as his grandfather became increasingly ill and was back with his mother, Teresa Neves, in Sumter County by the time he was a young teenager.

Sad. It looks as though TN also had more important things than her children.

I suppose anyone would want to believe their loved one may be alive and coming back some day. I can understand wanting to have proof of her death. Although in this situation, with so many differing stories being told, I don't think I would assume any of these versions as fact. After all this time, I guess I would think about the possibility, at least in private.

I'm not in this great-grandmother's position, I don't have a loved one missing. The only thing I've experienced that came close were when two friends were missing for three days until their bodies were finally found. It was torturous.

I'm also not saying I believe GGS doesn't know what went down or have her suspicions...... <shrug>
