Although Attorney Finnell may not be charging the Defendant for her services, this is not a pro bono case; it is an Indigent for Costs case, where Lead Counsel has received a fee of $89,454.83

So does this mean Baez has been paid this amount or this is the total to date of what JAC has paid out in regards to this case for costs? :waitasec:

Wasn't that the amount he claimed he earned from the pictures ICA sold?

That's the amount of fee Baez was paid by KC.

Page 8 of the Indigency Motion, shows that JB was paid $89454.83:

JAC says he can pay Finnell's travel expenses out of that $89K.

Burn!

I think that the reason for this wording is to send Mr.Baez a message.

Thus far he has received $89454.83....

If the defense wishes to claim that they can NOT afford these additional "costs" they will be unable to "justify" or "verify" that they can NOT cover the expense without providing a more detailed "accounting" of funds expended to date.

This of course is my own interpretation.

I find it hard to believe that given the amount of actual "work" we witnessed on this case prior to KC's indigency, that JB exhausted all his personal fees. If he needs to claim otherwise...he could perhaps open himself up to an issue with his billing practices, hourly rates as compared with the standard, and his escrow account.

Again...JMO.

Or lack of.....which was an issue for a local attorney in my town...OUCH!

It's about time. I'm glad they're being reasonable about this. Baez doesn't pay his own bills and brought in an attorney who was disbarred over misappropriating funds...then Andrea Lyon comes in to waste 20k and leaves, now there's the newest cadre of 'pro bono' fame seekers...

It's amazing that adults who consider themselves professionals engage in this kind of transparent nonsense.

It tells me that the Bar Association HAS to start cracking down on this.

I love it so much that they have it right down to the exact cent. :D

We will soon find out how committed AFinnell is to ICAs case. Betcha she bails just like ALyon did.

It doesn't amaze me anymore that JB just keeps pushing the envelope. He's in for a shocker when he has to pull weekend shifts and HHJP tells him to pack PBJs for lunch. Can't say he wasn't warned, but he will still whine about it.

Even Lyon was fumbling around trying to explain the 20k she burned through - computers, research, etc. I don't think the JAC will be allowing such vague undocumented claims, now that it's the taxpayers footing the bill, and not ABC, CBS, Macaluso (with whose money I have no idea) and law clinics in Illinois.

From Nums up in the news thread:

I wonder if KC actually will be there since it says it's a status hearing, but there are two motions. Should be a good one.

She'll be there -

Court officials also announced today that Casey Anthony will attend the hearing scheduled for next week at the Orange County Courthouse. Casey Anthony has not appeared in court for the last couple of hearings and was not required to attend those.

Is this the attorney with the overactive imagination - talking about people stalking her because they didn't like her testimony, and claimed she hadn't had a tv in 30 years because she couldn't figure out how to work it, but gets her news from the internet? So many absurdities.

LOL Horace.....

However realistically there hasn't been anything in this case which hasn't been absurd or bizarre! I am so pleased to see that JAC isn't going to tolerate any crap from JB and CM! They've squandered plenty of $$$ away already needlessly.

Please delete this post if it breaks any TOS as i am more of a lurker than a poster. Yesterday i came across a documentary on youtube called "Murder on a Sunday morning" A Finnell is one of the defence team for a 15 yr old accused of murder. Great documentary and you get a little insight to how A finnell works, ok now back to lurking.

I actually watched that recently. I can see the "Going to Ohio" strategy being right in line with how Finnell works, though I don't agree with it. The kid they set free went on to commit several felonies...I don't think Finnell cares though. She just wants 'em free.

Thank you, Dafne! Great documentary. Says it was Oscar winning and I can see why. It is long (12 parts) but worth viewing. The end of part 12 summarizes what has happened since the trial.

My first thoughts were:
  • Thank GOD for Yuri, John Allen, Eric Edwards, Nick Savage, etal!
    HEART-1.gif
  • Casey would have been so much better off with a public defender like Pat McGuinness than her 'scheme team'. Mr. McGuinness doesn't seem to have an aversion to actually working. He did his own investigations - no taxpayer funded Lyons-types necessary. He and Finnell has studied the evidence. (I'm an in no way saying I believe he could have gotten an acquittal for KC. The evidence is overwhelming. They cases aren't comparable. I am just saying he appears to be far more thorough and competent.)
  • I kept thinking how CA, GA & LA all needed to watch this so they could see how christian parents who truly believe in their child's innocence behave. Incredible difference.
  • I am sure that after Friday's hearing Ann Finnell is only wishing she were working with McGuinness again.

BBM

I need to Google 'cause I would like to follow up on Brent. I don't want to give anything away but the very end of part 12 confirms the verdict was correct in the case covered in the documentary. I don't know what has happened since then though.
