2010.10.29 Status Hearing

My first impression of her is that I like her. She doesn't seem arrogant.

I liked her better than most people JB has brought on. I can believed what she said about not watching TV now, she clearly doesn't understand what has transpired before she got on board.

Trying to sort out from memory all the TES statements tossed out there today...

Was Mason still insisting they had 150 more than the 32 who TES said searched Suburban?

Mason said they had 150 and of those 4-6 that were presented to the judge under seal IIRC. That was after making the 1000 phone calls.

I think the State was smirking inside and remained silent due to the fact that it was notable in the court room that HHJP had Baez number, aka - "fishing expedition".

The State is very familiar with HHJP, his mannerisms and his quips. They knew that HHJP had it under control. :)

I was listening more than watching, as I am on the clock at work. Thanks for clarifying. I will actually watch the hearing as soon as it's posted.

IF marbles in CM's mouth will turn the jury off I say we need a marble fund to send him more. He is sooooo annoying and that is before he utters a word.

I think LDB did an excellent job of keeping her composure... she had to sit there and listen to JB and CM lie through their teeth about things and twist and change things every which way to cover their butts!!! I think she just had enough of JB trashing the State for neglecting things (like turn over discovery) that everyone knows very well the State has already done!

I did not like when HHJP told LDB that he didn't "believe they said that." She responded that she could tell him what they said, but that was the sanitized version. LDB has always been very forthcoming. I can actually hear CM saying exactly that... only much worse!!

No, that's the other one that doesn't watch tv. Dorothy Sims.

My overall opinion of today's hearing is that it was the best one yet and HHJP really let the defense have it, his patience very clearly warn very thin. My jaw dropped open at certain times. Very pleased with today.

Ok, I"m really stunned by what Mason said about the 150 people, the 17 feet space "as big as your bench", and that they would make a call and say "oh if you weren't in THAT part of Suburban, thank you very much but no thanks", or whatever, and they'd walk away from that person. DO WE NOT HAVE A PERSON HERE AT HOME ON WS THAT SAYS EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE IS TRUE? That she DID say on the phone she was not in the area and she was STILL visited personally by somebody and that's what they want more money for! But he lied right to the judge's face! I can't BELIEVE that man!!

Well...uh... isn't that deadline TOMORROW? lol
I so don't get why it wasn't asked if they were on schedule to finish by the deadline. The LE depos are to be finished by the 31st also and LDB brought up how the defense was trying to schedule them for Nov. 9th IIRC. What was decided about this? I'm so confused.

AF - "obviously need a mitigation psychologist" in para 2 for penalty phase HHJP wants to know pre-trial amounts - trial takes care of itself. AF asks for 2500 and copying costs for school records, medical records, etc.-- HHJP thought mitigation specialist already got those - she asked for addl 1000.

She asked for trial expenses for herself mileage only - HHJP says they haven't been picking up those costs. $125- $150 per trip but she isn't going to quit if she doesn't get it.

She is also asking for travel exp for mitigation expenses or investigator because ICA lived there until age of 3 and to get birth and medical records. HHJP wants to know if there are witnesses still there (AF says there are). HHJP wants to know why it can't be done over phone (AF says it has been met w resistance over phone). HHJP wants to know what makes her think she is going to get answers if they go up there. HHJP says he is not bound by same guidelines because he is spending taxpayer money. AF needs to prove to HHJP that witnesses will talk in person and not over phone to get approval
What are they getting at? Cindy had a difficult birth which made Casey a murderer? Casey suffered from colds when she was little so she wanted to spare Caylee the same? I wouldn't bring up how Casey lived in Ohio until she was 3!!! Poor Caylee didn't get the opportunity to live in Orlando until she was 3. So they want an old friend, neighbor, whoever to say that Casey was he$$ on wheels (with maybe some undiagnosed mental illness?) or perhaps they want them to say she was such a precious child?! Gimme a break!!

Anyone else see Casey crying as she was led away?
I missed that, are you sure? I did notice her facial expressions while JB was going on and on about how hard he is working, blah, blah, blah. Her mouth was twitching and she was right on the verge of tears several times while he spoke.

I agree, it was excellent. I may just rewatch it again this evening.
Judge Perry is one cool dude.

This hearing was gold! I know I say that after every hearing but this was one of the best.

Baez got pwned
Mason got pwned
Ann Finnell got pwned
There was one moment about half way through that Casey was upset about something and nearly lost it, Baez asked her if she was okay and she shook her head yes. I can't remember what was being discussed will have to catch it on a rerun.

LDB was a WARRIOR - for truth and to try and attempt to put a stop to unscrupulous behaviour - or just flat out lying by the defense.

Jeff Aston cracked a joke (the little sweetie) that he liked working with LKB and came off all calm and composed.

At one point I thought Baez was going to chew the side of his face off - I was transfixed, I have never ever seen him like this - I think he knew he was up to his armpits in some deep poo poo.

Mason better take the marbles out of his mouth come the trial or the jurists are just going to switch off.

All in all a humdinger of a hearing!

Dars,
I was just about to say the SAME exact thing... Casey better be scared with these three on her side!!!!! Even if I never heard about this case and I was sitting on the jury there is no way to compare the professionalism between the two sides.

As my husband would say, this trial is gonna be a goat rope!

I wasn't able to get back on here until after the hearing, but is anyone else feeling as disappointed as I am?

Nums24 - what are you disappointed about?? I'm as happy as a pig in...umm..eating a cupcake! The whole hearing was smackdown, smackdown, smackdown - did my little ole heart good to finally see some reality hit these proceedings and gave me so much more hope for the future.

Hey - our WS friend who usually attends the hearings, was she there today? I can't remember her name, I do apologize for that.
