I was just going off of a post upthread that was talking about a Carson City.

It sure seems like a lot of people have differing ideas about this appreciation dinner.

I agree! She needs to let them do their job. From what I've read, she hasn't gone out and searched at all. Not sure what to think of BD. I do think she knows more than she's saying, and for the love of god, the woman can't keep her stories straight.

She had a similar reaction to LE searching the landfill. I suspect that she is REALLY having a hard time getting her mind around the idea that the searchers ARE NOT looking for a "live Hailey" and that HAILEY'S ANGELS were NEVER looking for a "live Hailey".

They represent ONE of the avenues being explored by LE. Whereas another group (Clint & Naomi, and perhaps some portion of the official investigation) IS looking for a "live Hailey", this group's purpose is to search for a body. I just think she is in HUGE denial about everything going on. I think she DOES expect Hailey to magically come home alive, and she just hadn't really put 2 and 2 together to realize that these searchers, aren't combing the woods looking for a quaint little cottage where Hailey has been chillin' for the last 2 months, or hoping to find her, lost and a little dehydrated, curled up waiting for rescuers to come at the bottom of a ravine. In spite of Marc Klaas's insistence that she maintain the position that Hailey is alive, even Klaaskids is part of a RECOVERY effort.

This film was probably a little too "in your face" considering her complete inability to accept that Hailey is dead or even hurt, or that Shawn could have done anything to her. Maybe Hailey's Angels did not realize where her head was and how this would affect her, or maybe they did and wanted to give her a dose of reality, as she has not been out with the search parties. Maybe they hope she will see how much effort this group has put into finding her daughter, and provide information she may have withheld previously out of guilt. It's really hard to say what their intent was, or why she reacted as she did, given the number of possibilities.

I'd like to hear from redcat whether she was there, and what really went down.

....and maybe they didn't know BD would remember to come to the appreciation dinner as BD forgot about the balloon launch for Hailey and proceded as planned for the video to be shown.

Yep. JMO of course but I think BD thought the spotlight was going to be on her and when she realized it wasn't, it really was for the volunteers, BD made it about her. (and SA)

I think Colorado City should replace Carson City. Then it makes sense.

Originally the number of searchers was originally estimated at over a hundred, and now a source apparently says it was just a couple dozen? So most of the searchers were NOT locals? Why weren't there more locals there? Half a dozen of the "locals" were Hailey's Angels! Where were the parents of Hailey's friends and team-mates, teachers, counselors, and the parents of DDs friends? Where were the people who are concerned for their own kids, in the event that this really was some "kid-snatcher" who could strike anywhere? The locals really should have outnumbered the out-of-towners by at least 2:1. Why didn't more community groups (volunteer firefighters? explorer scouts?) rally their members for this search which was publicized well in advance?

BBM- JMO but I do not think the Locals want to be involved with this. With speculation of drug use, admitted drug use, lifestyle choices, odd behavior on the part of LE's suspect, inconsistant statements by the child's Mother and CPS assisting with placement of the other child in the home, I think Locals just don't want any involvement of this saga. It is sad for Hailey because it should be about finding her but sometimes folks just can't see past the parents/family to want to help the child.

Searchers don't just look for dead bodies. They look for evidence, such as a piece of clothing, a note, etc, that may lead to finding the child alive.

When I see Billie objecting to searchers looking in fields for pieces of evidence that may lead to finding Hailey alive, it bothers me tremendously.

Especially when she says things like:

When I combine that with the crazy stuff about the mis-reporting - and lack of correction - on what Hailey was wearing, it is highly suspicious.

Billie claims to have found Hailey's pink tennis shoes in her room, yet it wasn't corrected in the media until a full week later.

Then just a few days ago, the Help Find Hailey Dunn Facebook page published a description of what Hailey was wearing, and sure as heck, it said pink tennis shoes - not the flip flops Billie claimed long ago that Hailey was actually wearing.

I worry that Hailey's flip flops could have been tossed into a field, but someone who sees them, but has read that Hailey was wearing pink tennis shoes would not know those flip flops are significant.

LE could be called for the flip flops, and they might find surveillance video of Hailey at a store in the area, and identify someone she's with, and actually find her alive.

But that can't happen if the passerby or the searcher who sees the flip flops thinks they are insignificant because they were mislead into thinking that Hailey was wearing pink tennis shoes.

But then, I ask myself, with all the changing stories, obfuscation, hiding of information, etc, how do we know which info is correct, what the heck Hailey was really wearing. And that is even more suspicious.

I am worried about what is going in this case. There is too much obvious obfuscation and attempts to interfere with finding out what happened to Hailey, and where she is.

This is my opinion.

I read somewhere last night from a searcher who went this weekend that the searches are moving towards Big Springs. Perhaps this is what is scaring BD?

Honestly, I think BD's behavior is disgusting but it brings back deja vu.

She was on NG for over a week and when NG started asking tougher questions, BD puts NG down in the local media. She's never been back on NG since.

So now she puts down Hailey's Angels and she's hoping they will quit their search. IMO I hope Hailey's Angels don't stop searching.

That is not what I got from it. She said it was because the searchers were shown searching 'the dirty fields and dirty creeks' and it implied a dead body, so she was upset. She wants not to be associated with them because she wants them to be looking for a LIVE Hailey, in her words.
The crew member wanted to turn it off because Billie was upset, not because the video made her a target in any way.

And we heard from Billie herself what the problem was. She said NOTHING about the video making her a target. She said it was because the video showed them searching for a dead body and because this group 'thinks Shawn did something horrible to Hailey" and she thinks their goal is to prove that to her.
ETA= this is not the only reason they would want to give up their searching. It is probably just the straw that breaks the camels back.
She has NEVER been gracious towards them. And she has NEVER been thankful nor helpful in any way. So why would they want to keep looking for her child. Some of them have looked EVERY DAY FOR 8 WEEKS.

I don't get it. I didn't notice anything in the article that even implied it. Did they show SA in his masks with butcher knives - I doubt it. How does she go from search photos, to the group thinking SA did something horrible to Hailey? Unless there was a big ol photo with a title saying SA did it - how did she come to this conclusion.

I haven't seen the video, so I'm merely speculating. What on earth caused her to make that statement?

If my child were missing I would be out there begging and pleading for people to search for her. There are no promises of "bring 'em back alive" in this sort of situation. I would not be biting the hand that feeds me.

And after printing out all those true crime stories, doesn't this woman know what the perverbial outcome will be? After all, it was a hobby of hers. Hailey has been gone far too long, unless, like Elizabeth Smart, she's out there wearing a veil somewhere (which I highly doubt).

IMHO BJD is freakin because folks may be getting too close to the dump site.

They Volunteered. They should not expect anything. There is no reward in searching for a childs body. It has to be done. They should not have made that statement about not being appreciated. Even if they felt that way.

The public appreciated them that should have been all the volunteers needed. Not to react like they did not think the mother was acting in a manner they dont feel is fitting for them. IMO. Billie had been thanking them for their effort until the video.

Why then was it called an appreciation dinner, if not to thank and appreciate those who have been searching for Hailey? I wouldn't expect anything either, but had I been invited to the appreciation dinner, I wouldn't expect this kind of response from the mother of a missing child.

Thanks for the clarification - I thought someone had died on the search. Not that the heart attack cannot be contributed to the search -- it probably can (stress and all).

I really think BD should have gone to that dinner, read a pre-written (preferably written by someone else) statement thanking all the searchers and then left. She should have then kept her mouth shut re: her opinions about the searchers. How hard is it to say "I appreciate everyone for caring so much for my daughter."

That post was from our very lovely Ginger Snap. She often posts on her phone, and said she doesn't see so well. I can read enough through the lines to hear what she's getting at
