Just jumping off here to only do one post:
I don't feel this guy is necessarily trying too hard to get on the jury, etc. etc.
I was called for jury duty a while back, and for that brief time period, probably about a week, IIRC, I was on call 24/7, and it would have had a severe negative impact on my business had I been picked. Around here, it is a $75 no show fine, and I've never heard of the court around here even pursuing it. It would have been easier and cheaper for me to just be a no-show, rather than shut my office down for the time it took me to go in and hang out all day waiting to speak to the court. But I went, because I am really uncomfortable 'breaking the law' and being dishonest. When the judge asked about hardship, I went forward and explained my situation, and the judge was awful to me. I explained as clearly as possible this was just a short term situation that popped up a few times a year where I was the only one available, and someone has to be available at all times. The hardship is on me, but it is also on my employees in a major way, if it just affected me I would have sucked it up. I even told her I would be willing to do it if the trial was not starting for another week, because I would be free and clear. She gave me an extension to come in for the next trial, but she was a real witch about it.
Sorry for rambling, but my point is, had she not let me go, I would have answered any questions honestly, even if it led to me being picked and caused me major hardship. I don't believe I'm in the minority of people who feel this way.
