Baez - isnt' this the voir dire portion? Not jury instructions!!! I think HHJP can take care of that.

JB is talking to him like he is a child! If I were PJ, I'd be annoyed! The PJ says he goes to college, he's not an idiot who has to be spoon fed info! Sheesh!

At first I felt this guy may not be a good juror, possibly stealth. However now I have changed my mind. I just think he is firm in some of his thoughts and one of those types to not necessarily follow very much "media" stuff. Not everyone is a news junkie or crime follower. I guess I am on the fence but feel given his nursing and chemistry major he may actually be good for the SA.

Very interesting.

He could be good for both sides actually. They are probally having a hard time figuring this dude out.

Sensing a time warp here. He is 42 and in college for the first time. Speaks of publishing music he has composed over 20 years' time. Has no children. The play he is seeking to publish (You Took My Life Away) is an autobiographical tragedy based on a high school breakup. Names the girl who broke his heart ("Michelle") in open court, after all these years. Says he has performed his music in public, but not for remuneration, and upon questioning it turns out he is referring to a long-ago time when he was in middle school.

Didn't show up for his jury obligation yesterday because he didn't have transportation/gas money. Smooth voice, but has a bit of an edge and has no qualms about sparring with attorneys during this questioning. Calls himself a playwright and a musician when asked in open court, but has not earned money from these endeavors. Fascinating all in all, IMO.

I'd love to sit down and drink a beer with this guy, but as a juror? Nah, I'll pass, to many "unknowns".

IMO, Baez has been trying to "charm" the PJ's in order to have them like him, hoping that if they like him, they won't vote against his client.

JMHO

I think this is how he feels about being on the jury. He really doesn't care. If he is chosen fine, if he isn't chosen, he's fine with that too.

That's exactly what I'm hearing too!

I like him and I hope he's a juror. :)

My son is a musician & very laid back like this pj. I wouldn't want him on this jury. I feel he would explain away some of the damning evidence against KC. I know you should be open minded, but sometimes the open mindedness crosses the line to closed mindedness when trying to go against the "normal" grain. Not sure I explained it well enough (too deep for me!) I think if he thought most people thought she was guilty he would want to find a reason why she isn't for the sole purpose of looking more evolved. Sorry if it makes no sense!! LOL!

Per WESH:

Interesting situation ahead: If the state issue a peremptory challenge on Juror 3283, and the defense issues a Batson challenge that is sustained, the 12-member jury will be ready to be seated. If the defense wants to see more jurors, they will not want to use a Batson challenge.

If you don't mind, what is Batson challenge?

This PJ doesn't ring true......sounds like he has KC disease of Delusions of Grandeur

But I don't like this guy.

I think this guy is very multi-faceted and multi-talented. He seems to be very grounded as far as knowing what he wants and where he wants to go with his life. He is definitely very cerebral, as someone said. I don't think he has an agenda and I also don't think he will want the media attention after the trial. They are having to pull the answers out of him. He is not volunteering information or talking way too much like someone who wants to tell you everything about themselves or tell the world hey look what I did. He seems like a very private person, even though he shares his talents with his music and writing.

As for him not having a computer, I believe him. You can absolutely write music and plays without a computer. A lot of people do it the old fashioned way with a pencil and paper. My son loves to write music and he doesn't do it on the computer. And he is 17 and grew up cutting his teeth on a computer if you know what I mean. I think with some artists, doing it with pencil and paper is much more intimate. They may later go on to the computer to do the mechanical aspects of it and compose the music doing different programs and stuff, but the words and notes, etc. can be written down first. This guy sounds like he knows what he needs. He is saving for a Macbook Pro. Those are top of the line and expensive. He isn't settling for some cheap PC and cheap program. He has his whole life to do this, and has been working on it for a long time. He wants what he wants and will get it when the time is right. I don't think much of anything will sway him from the path he is on. I doubt he would be interested in writing about this trial. He won't want that kind of media attention.

Just my opinion, of course.

I thought I heard him say something about "club members" and the tv's being for them, my impression was maybe a health club?

I heard him say he worked for the Bay Care system and that he is a personal trainer (I think).

Baycare has several "wellness centers" which are "gyms" and have cardiac rehab. They have TV's but none of them have sound (you have to wear earphones) so he would have to watch the screen (they have closed captioning). I belong to the wellness center system and go to the one in Clearwater at Morton Plant. Maybe I have seen him!

Oh! I thought people were saying HHJP was talking to him like he were an idiot! I must say being at work and only able to follow this by everyone's comments, it is really interesting to see people having exactly opposite views from listening to the same guy. And refreshing that it doesn't turn into a verbal war!

HHJP is not happy today about the time this is taking.

I know times are tough and the price of gas is really expensive, but this guy says he's saving for a MAC. My son just bought one and it was over 1500.00. Couldn't he have swiped the cost of a gallon of gas from his savings? Or the price of bus fare......He just doesn't sit right with me.........
