Could Baez be sick and the Judge asked CM if he would ask ICA if they could proceed without Baez present and she said no?

Since we have a runaway thread right now, I'm way behind.
I was so shocked to hear HJBP say we were in recess until tomorrow morning and tried to go to the next page and got locked out. I've been fighting it since then. I guess everybody was getting on to find out what happened - like me!

Anyway, I didn't notice JB not being there at the table - do we have a picture of that?
I wish we had video of everything from the time ICA came strutting into the courtroom after lunch so we could look at it closely.

I wonder if CM went to talk to ICA about the jury selection being dragged out so long, that the trial was going to interfere with one of his new clients' trial and he has thinking of resigning from her defense.

Well, I don't see how people who are on trial for murder(and are guilty)can't just, from now on, take a play from the Casey Anthony play book. Delay, lie...do everything you can to get away with murder.

I could have never known how well a guilty defendant could rail road our system. I thought there would be checks and balances to keep a person from doing this. Casey is running this show. She has been from the beginning.

I guess she can do whatever she wants. Right? She hasn't been convicted...it is amazing...I haven't been convicted of anything and I bet I couldn't hold up justice like this...the only thing that makes sense to me is that "they" know what she is and there is no chance for her and so they...

but that is bull. Since when do we baby people on trial for murder? Has this ever happened before? This is ridiculous. Again, I just feel like Casey and Jose are in control. I don't feel like the State of FL is in control...

I did feel HHJP was in control but he can only do so much, and I think he was doing what he could...but how do you fight this level of....

what is it that Casey is? What is it that Jose is? Agggg. Wow. I don't make it but a little while here any more without realizing I need a time out.

:pullhair:

Well, now we know what the 10 or 15 minute wait was for the 1:00 o'clock trial start, the DT must have been filling the judge in and perhaps ICA was in on the discussion. Obviously the question HHJP asked in the courtroom was for the record only. It was no surprise to him.

Why would JB need to get in his car and drive away if he was filing some kind of motion and/or an appeal? Isn't he at the courthouse?

If he was going to file an appeal to a higher court, he would have to file it at an appellate court, not at a circuit courthouse.

Some speculation on InSession regarding the jury - the word tampering was mentioned but I'd say NOT - they were just rambling on.

If the defense team cares at all about ICA they might see the death penalty becoming a likely outcome and have convinced her to save her life with a plea. My hope because LWOP would keep her from becoming a cult figure.

From the OS:

Orange County Court spokeswoman Karen Levey issued a brief statement after Perry's move.

"Jury selection in the State v Casey Anthony case taking place in Pinellas County is in recess until tomorrow morning. No further explanation will be given at this time,'' the statement said.

While Perry's move remained a mystery and prompted a wide range of speculations, it may be related to the defense's objection this morning to the process of jury selection, which began May 9.

He can't withdraw, he has benefited to the tune of $355.000 from this case before his client was declared indigent. Therefore he cannot withdraw.

I am unsure if this is correct. I have known attorneys to file to withdraw because of the client being unable to continue paying for their services.

Jean C says she thinks now not an appeal - could be done while selection going on. Vinny says something "big"

Okay, I have to ask. What are the rules for lawyers leaving a courtroom? Could Baez just say he was sick and leave, and HHJP would have to deal with it? Or would it have to be more formal than that? Can he get into trouble for leaving? I'm trying wrap my head around the thought that Baez wanted to delay more and decided to go home sick, which just seems so smarmy of him! Is that legal to do?

if Baez had a personal illness or emergency.. wouldnt the judge or Mason(after court) at least say :private emergency: and decline to go into detail?? rather than just leaving everyone hanging..?

Exactly...whatever it was/is...it involved/involves ICA directly otherwise why would HHJP have said "Have you discussed the matter with Ms. Anthony?

I am not the least surprised. The Defense does not want to try this case and these little games will continue. I always wondered if we would get to this phase and have Mr. Baez resign rather than lose the case. I do think he is filing an appeal and I'm not surprised that they waited until the 11th hour to do it either.

Mr. Mason's face was red, his BP was up. Unusually quiet.

Maybe casey heard all of those guiltys the other day and got afraid. somehow i doubt it.

Why would anything like that need to be discussed with Ms. Anthony?
True, and her crying yesterday when the DT went in behind close doors to discuss about PJ? I'm sure this is connected along with the Investigator that showed up out of nowhere.

I'm curious and we will all find out some way at some time. I'm wondering if JB was told to get your affairs in order because he got caught VIA his investigator with witness tampering.

I rewound the InSession coverage and ICA was wiping her upper eye lashes to straighten them (like she does) --- that move like you do with your finger to get excess mascara off.

BTW -- I am uploading their coverage now. I started one segment before the judge entered but I will upload all of this afternoon coverage unless they repeat at some point.

If it was an illness, that would not have to be so secret...
