Baez asks csi if he has smelled bodies in various stages of decomp and in various environments. Csi agrees #caseyanthony

bringing up maggots.....

Um - that the trunk items had "an odour", which Baez is claiming could be rotten bananas?

Yeah, it would be interesting to see what the Florida Evidence Code has to say on this but that sounds as though your saying the Jury would be smelling the odour to determine that the odour was more akin to a banana rather than a dead human body (to wit: Caylee). Which is problematic:
a.) I am unsure if the Jury should be making a determination that the odour is decomposition of a banana. On what basis would the do so? What experience do they have?
b.) Similarly they certainly shouldn't be making a determinination that the odour is a decomposition of a human body. Considerations, ditto.
c.) They shouldn't be entering into a comparative analysis.

Wonder if Baez has a problem with Bloise answering and facing the jury.

It looks to me today as if JB is acting more professionally, but that also may be because we have only seen him speak for about half an hour total...

Wait a minute, if it's not animal or human, what the heck kind of meat is Baez talking about?

  • #990
I think they should smell what the car smelled like!

That's what I think too, but by having the jurors smell a container of human decomp - the material they use to train cadaver dogs first, they jurors can then smell KC's car. They should be able to then say the two smells are the same.

JB just said fecal matter

Thwarted twice now.

  • #993
Baez is actually making good points here...

  • #994
Is JB trying to insinuate that Bloise doesn't really know what decompostion smells like because he's confusing it with formaldahyde?

Pathetic.

  • #995
Yeah. Jean C is on my " completely ignore" list.

I think Jean C. is perfect for HLN. She knows nothing of this case. and she acts soooo different on NG. kiss kiss kiss......

#CaseyAnthony Peeps in courtroom reporting they didn't smell any odor when part of trunk covering was busted out

That's right. They are laying foundation and establishing the chain of command so that Dr. Vass, the FBI, etc., can later testify about these forensics, like petri dishes, air canisters, etc. Vass will testify that he tested the air in these canisters, which came from the trunk, and found they contained the odor of human decomposition.

Vaas may be able to testify that the odour is consistent with decomposition of a human body. However, that is surely much different to handing a cannister to the jury and saying "smell this".

JB challenging this witness..waste..huge waste.

Bloise is thwarting Jose Baez. Oops.

I think that this is the best JB has done all trial so far. I wonder if it's because this witness is so credible and professional and...I don't know how to explain it.
