2020 Hurricane Season Starting Early, "High Activity" Expected This Year

The name of this thread should be adjusted:

“2020 Hurricane Season Starting Early, Staying Late, And Relentless In-between...”

I don’t know about y’all, but I am DONE with hurricane season 2020.
100% agree. It was so nice to have a few weekends without rain. I noticed the humidity is lower this past week also. I can't seem to keep the little foster furbaby inside - she's having way too much fun out in the yard now.

My marine biologist has never been so happy to be off a boat. The last research trip the waves were so choppy it beat the tar out of her body. She's done for the "season" and ready to just sit in her office chair and read the data!!

Interesting map from the National Hurricane Center showing hurricane strikes by U.S. county/borough/parish 1900-2010. I hope they will update it after the 2020 season is over.

Hurricane Epsilon

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
WIND: Tropical storm conditions are expected intermittently on Bermuda through this evening.

SURF: Large swells generated by Epsilon will affect Bermuda, the Bahamas, the Greater Antilles, the Leeward Islands, the east coast of the United States, and Atlantic Canada during the next few days.
These swells are likely to cause life-threatening surf and rip current conditions. Please consult products from your local weather office.

Rumor has it this puppy is coming to SWFL. We shall see if that pans out. I’m going to fill up my water jugs and freeze them now. Later.

Tropical Tidbits

A disturbance labeled "Invest 95L" is showing signs of rotation just NW of Grand Cayman. 95L is sheared and tilted SE with height, indicating disorganization, but conditions could favor it becoming more organized over the next few days. NHC gives it a 60% chance of developing.

It's too early to know exactly where 95L will track over the coming days, but a general motion northward is expected. Interests in the Cayman Islands, Cuba, southern Florida, and the Bahamas should monitor the system.

Hmph. I was fantasizing that we were done with hurricanes. But I know the season runs through November.

With the storms getting more frequent & more severe, I wonder if the season will become longer? Not going to evacuate on Christmas- will relocate!

Hopefully, this doesn't strengthen much.

Tropical Tidbits

Tropical Depression Twenty-Eight (#TD28) has formed in the NW Caribbean. A track westward toward Yucatan Peninsula and central gulf has become clearer today. Strengthening is expected near the Yucatan Peninsula, but shear and dry air are likely to keep the storm in check as it traverses the Gulf of Mexico.

From the National Hurricane Center--Zeta.
National Hurricane Center

Key Messages:
1. Hurricane conditions and dangerous storm surge are expected in portions of the northern Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico this evening through early Tuesday. Through Tuesday, heavy rainfall is expected across the Yucatan Peninsula, the Cayman Islands, and central to western Cuba, which could lead to flash flooding in urban areas.

2. Hurricane conditions and life-threatening storm surge are possible along portions of the northern Gulf Coast on Wednesday, and Storm Surge and Hurricane Watches are in effect. Residents in the watch areas should follow any advice given by local officials.

3. Between Tuesday night and Thursday, heavy rainfall is expected from portions of the central Gulf Coast into the southern Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic States near and in advance of Zeta. This rainfall will lead to flash, urban, small stream, and minor river flooding.

Hurricane Zeta continues to strengthen heading into landfall, and most recently the eye has begun clearing out again, as the cyclone once again takes on a pattern often associated with a run for Major status. Interests in SE Louisiana to NW Florida should pay very close attention and be rushing prep to completion. This is a serious hurricane.

Zeta as of 11 a.m. today. We are getting wind with some strong gusts in central NC. Lights have flickered but no outage yet. National Hurricane Center

KEY MESSAGES:

1. Strong, damaging wind gusts, which could cause tree damage and power outages, will continue to spread eastward across portions of the Carolinas and southeastern Virginia through this afternoon due
to Zeta's fast forward speed.

2. Through today, heavy rainfall is expected near and in advance of Zeta from portions of the Ohio Valley, into the central Appalachians and Mid-Atlantic. This rainfall may lead to flash, urban, small stream, and isolated minor river flooding.

My friend who lives just east of Atlanta said last night the storm came thru. They’ve lost internet but had power. She said there’s probably an inch of pine needles in her yard and on her deck.
