Hang on, here we go........

Someone is keeping Wikipedia updated so start there for the history of what has already transpired so far this season.

Storm names
The following names will be used for named storms that form in the North Atlantic in 2021.[84] Retired names, if any, will be announced by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in the spring of 2022. The names not retired from this list will be used again in the 2027 season.[84] This is the same list used in the 2015 season, with the exceptions of Elsa and Julian, which replaced Erika and Joaquin, respectively. The name Elsa was used for the first time this year.

If there are more than 21 named storms this season, subsequent storms will take names from an auxiliary list of names approved by the WMO.[84] Previously, the Greek alphabet was used if a season's primary name list was exhausted, which occurred in 2005 and 2020. This practice was discontinued after the 2020 season brought multiple shortcomings to light with the use of the Greek alphabet. Disadvantages to its usage included too much focus on how the Greek letters were used, instead of reporting on the impacts of these tropical cyclones, as well as the difficulty in properly retiring and replacing the Greek letter names of devastating storms.[85]

Tropical Storm Elsa Moving Quickly: Florida, Caribbean Should Track Forecast Closely | The Weather Channel - Articles from The Weather Channel | weather.com

Tropical Storm Elsa is expected to barrel toward the Caribbean by Friday, where warnings have been issued for the Windward and Leeward Islands. Residents of the Caribbean and Florida should track the progress of Elsa closely through the holiday weekend.

The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said Elsa was centered about 600 miles east-southeast of the Windward Islands as of early Thursday

I've watched this site for over 10 years. They have meteorologists who participate so great info.

Atlantic Hurricane Season 2021 has just told 2020 to hold its beer.

Advisories have begun on the potential fifth named storm of the swift start to the 2021 Atlantic Hurricane Season with Invest 97L. This incipient tropical cyclone being born unseasonably early in the Main Development Region (MDR) of the Tropical Atlantic is far more like what we would expect to see in the heart of a season, not the very first official month.

Model guidance on FIVE is warm to very warm, and getting warmer. Interests in the eastern Caribbean and points west to northwest may want to begin paying very close attention to official guidance.

We also now have a Forecast Lounge up just for FIVE to discuss its model runs in greater detail and speculate more freely

Thank you for this thread! And for the info about storm names.

It's the rain, as usual that will cause the most damage up the SW coast of FL. Fortunately, I am not in a flood zone nor an evacuation zone.

AccuWeather meteorologists are concerned that Elsa could strengthen into a hurricane as it approaches the Windward Islands. But, even if it doesn't reach hurricane force by the time it reaches the islands, the storm is still expected to become a hurricane over central Caribbean waters this weekend. A hurricane has maximum sustained winds of 74 mph or greater.

Tropical Tidbits latest FB post about 20 minutes ago. Elsa's path is a bit more east of where Hurricane Charley's path was in 2004 - that plowed into Port Charlotte area and did some major damage. Hoping Elsa cools her jets prior to landfall.

#Elsa is now a hurricane, based on reports from Barbados with wind gusts of at least 85 mph on the north side of the center. The center is now passing between St. Vincent and St. Lucia as it races westward. A Hurricane Warning is in effect for both islands. The official NHC forecast holds Elsa's intensity steady as the storm approaches Haiti on Saturday, but further strengthening is also possible given that the storm has retained a healthy structure.
I will post a video update in the late evening (eastern/Atlantic time) later today.

https://www.accuweather.com/en/hurricane/tropical-storm-elsa-latest-forecast-track-strength/973434

Elsa was about 350 miles east-southeast of Kingston, Jamaica, packing sustained winds of 70 mph and moving quickly toward the west-northwest at 29 mph at 11 a.m. EDT Saturday. Tropical-storm-force winds extended out farther up to 125 miles out from its center. A category 1 hurricane has maximum-sustained winds starting at 74 mph.

The storm weakened Saturday after peaking in strength on Friday, when its maximum-sustained winds were around 85 mph during the afternoon and evening hours. The storm was blamed for widespread damage and power outages, including in the islands of Barbados and St. Vincent.

Elsa ripped roofs off homes, toppled trees and caused flooding in Barbados before whipping heavy rain and wind in St. Vincent Friday, Reuters reported. Many power outages were also blamed on Elsa.

As of Saturday, AccuWeather forecasters say Elsa is most likely to enter the eastern Gulf of Mexico and approach Florida early next week.

"Elsa is expected to regain some wind intensity early next week once it passes north of Cuba and moves into the eastern Gulf. And there is a chance that conditions may be favorable for Elsa to affect Florida as a hurricane for a time during Tuesday and Wednesday."

Hoping Elsa does not restrengthen and stays a mild rain event for SWFL. If it stays west that should minimize it's impact on the Surfside recovery mission. That cruise ship that is housing the workers should be okay too altho. I wouldn't want to be on it at the moment.

Saturday evening video discussion on Trpoical Storm #Elsa, expected to hit Cuba and Florida during the next few days

Tropical Storm Elsa heads toward the coast of Cuba with hurricane potential - CNN

Tropical Storm Elsa is nearing the southern shores of Cuba, where the warm, shallow water could help it intensify before landfall.
With winds now at 65 mph, Elsa has moved westward, motivating governments to drop advisories for eastern Cuba and Jamaica, according to the National Hurricane Center. But now the Cuban provinces of Matanzas and Cienfuegos are under a hurricane warning, and a hurricane watch has been issued for the province of Camaguey.

Sarasota Report: You'd never know we're about to get nailed by Elsa. The weather app says it's 92 degrees but feels like 104. No wind either. It has been beautiful all day. It does show our temp dropping to 79 degrees about 6:00pm with a 47% chance of rain. Tomorrow is expected to be 80 degrees and a 90% chance of rain.

Hopefully, Elsa will not gain any strength and the fools who think they need to go surfing will keep their butts parked at home.

Just had a storm band blow in, wind picked up and can hear thunder in the distance. You can see Sarasota and Surfside are not in the cone. However, as usual, that means nothing. Secured everything and took photos of my two big oak trees just in case.
