Tropical Storm #Elsa has made landfall in the big bend of Florida with max winds of about 65 mph. The storm will track inland east of the Appalachians, bringing heavy rain with it over the next couple days. Tropical Storm Warnings have been issued for the coastlines of Georgia and South Carolina, as strong winds off the water still expected on the east side of Elsa. Tropical Storm Watches also extend into the Mid-Atlantic, as Elsa will track close to the coastline bringing rain and gusty winds on Thursday night and Friday. Stay in touch with your local NWS office at weather.gov/socialmedia for details on impacts to your area. Stay safe!

River flooding as expected. This will happen all over so please go to higher ground if you need to!

Live Blog: Latest updates on Tropical Storm Elsa | firstcoastnews.com

Tropical Storm Elsa has left its mark on the First Coast. Damage from the storm has been reported in Columbia County and Elsa's outer bands spun up tornados in several areas, including one that ripped thru parts of Jacksonville's Southside late Wednesday afternoon.

The center of the storm is moving into SE Georgia and impacts there will be felt into the evening. A tornado was reported in Camden County in the area of the Kings Bay Submarine Base.

Stay safe all that are in it's path. It's a really strange system, so expect the unexpected.
It is a strange storm. In North Port FL they had a foot of water in 3 hours. Same with my daughters area near Punta Gorda / Charlotte Harbor. She said it didn’t quit for 2 hours straight. The lightening strikes on her weather app were a big blob there were so many.

I saw North Port flooded streets on the news. They got hammered! Glad you're daughter is ok!

Sarasota Report:

We've had steady hard rain for at least 2 hours and so has my oldest in Charlotte County, an hour south. She is right on Charlotte Harbor too. She's been wearing ear buds while she worked from home today. That masked most sounds for her. I don't think initially that was her intent but I am actually glad she did.

She went thru Hurricane Irma in St Thomas, VI in 2017. She curled herself around the toilet and had drywall raining on her as the roof lifted and slammed back down. Her and her roommate had a twin mattress over them and they were hanging on for dear life, crying and praying out loud. Some of you may remember me writing about that in the past. To this day, storms are hard for her. So I check in via text every couple hours. If it's really bad, I call so I can gauge the anxiety in her voice.

The wind here is whistling on/off. When it was still daylight, I could see the tree branches blowing and the hood on my neighbors car blew up. After a little bit they went out, got in the car and drove off. I don't think that car lives there so they must have had visitors who left. I can hear small things hitting my roof. Likely tree branches as our power lines in the neighborhood are underground.

My place is not in a flood zone or an evacuation zone. The county has not opened any shelters, which I find foolish. One friend who's mother is near hospice is over at her parents place. Another friend is about 10 miles south but her house is on big stilts. My youngest and her boyfriend are at their new place, neither are far from the water. They haven't experienced any flooding tho.

Sorry about your daughter and all she went through with Irma when she was in St. Thomas. We're not in a flood zone either which is good. I heard about the flooding down in North Port though.

My tree decided to fall yesterday and take out my power prior to Elsa showing up to save me the suspense.

NS Power cleared it up quickly.

9:45 pm now in Nova Scotia and Elsa is about 340 km southwest, moving 60 km per hour..but it’s definitely the start of a cyclone here right now. (New Brunswick, northwest of me is going to get the eye of the storm).

Heavy rains on and off for the past 17 hours but now the wind, thunder and lightning is picking up. Elsa sounds like a freight train.

Off for my last hot cup of tea as I know the power will go off again. Stay safe!!

Seek shelter if you literally hear a freight train - that's the tornado coming in! Stay safe and dry and I hope you are able to retain power!!!
