I was thinking the same thing. Is there no tributaries that water will push inland, no flood warnings? The entire coast isn’t a cliff like in the movies. Not at all what I’m used to since we got them a lot.Ashley Brauweiler

I don’t get it. The Newfoundland meteorologists are sounding the alarms, but from what I’ve seen on Twitter and elsewhere, there’s almost no discussion or notice.
This is going to be a big storm—category 1–and all the trees are in full leaf.

There is a good book about Gander on 9/11/01, called "The Day The World Came To Town". I recommend it.The hurricane is hitting Newfoundland on September 11th, a very solemn occasion, of course. A very difficult anniversary.
Many US planes were diverted to Gander, Newfoundland that day, and they took great care of the passengers and crews.
Gander is a tiny town. 38 airliners, totaling 6,122 passengers and 473 crew arrived that day. Gander is west of where the hurricane will likely hit on Saturday.
A good thread on Twitter about it:

They were halfway to America when the pilot made an announcement. “We’ll be landing in Gander, Newfoundland.” What? Why? Where’s Gander? Newfoundland?

Nicholas is a rainmaker. I hope those on the coast can get to higher ground.

Storm surge and tropical storm watches have also been issued, meaning dangerous storm surge and tropical storm-force winds are possible within 48 hours, respectively.

I-10 floods at the drop of a hat and snakes/fire ants in the flooded waters.
