I just met a family in Barnardsville, North Carolina.Mom, dad, and 4 little kids.House destroyed by Hurricane Helene.They are living in a very small camper and a shed.They had Christmas lights up, but not enough gas to power the generator to turn them on tonight.

There are a lot of great organizations -- but here are three I have seen with my own eyes doing life changing work:

Operation Shelterhttps://givesendgo.com/OperationShelter
Homes for Hopehttps://bluvistatravel.com/homes-for-hope
Eagle Rock Churchhttps://facebook.com/p/Eagle-Rock-Church-100064317386869/

All of these organizations are regular people I met out here who formed groups to help.

Strange timing to be in Western North Carolina talking to families living in cold campers and storage sheds 3 months after Helene as Congress does what feels like is their normal thing -- possible shutdown/hurricane funding delay, etc.No one here is surprised.

Thank you, arielilane, for continuing to update on the situation in Western NC.
It has faded from the public eye, but things remain desperate still in large areas there.
We are not far away so we still see the pain.
I will add, thank goodness for regular folks and private organizations who don’t wait for red tape to step in and help.
God bless them, and Happy New Year everyone.

@BrianEntin

FEMA is paying for 2,777 North Carolina hurricane victims to stay in hotels -- but the deadline when they have to be out keeps changing.There have been last minute extensions -- but there is understandably a lot of anxiety with the cold temperatures and limited housing.

"Our little community is not important to the nation."Hurricane survivors in North Carolina have felt forgotten for months.They are anxious to see what President Trump will say during visit tomorrow.
Also: Operation Shelter came through in a BIG way for a homeless grandma:

Continue to be so inspired by @TheShawnHendrix @matt_vanswol @HistoryBoutique with Operation Shelter and their RELENTLESS determination to help North Carolina Hurricane Helene survivors.

Grassroots is how you do it.
