Keith Morrison stated that it was a theory that BK targeted either Madison Mogen and/or Kaylee Gonclaves and that after he murdered them, as he was leaving and went to the 2nd floor, Xana and/or Ethan came out of her room, so BK murdered them as well. That kind of makes sense to me. It was also interesting to learn he bought the knife through Amazon so they have that record of that purchase.

If someone can search back to the first person who suggested that he left the sheath behind, please post it with their username. It was genius, and they deserve all the credit in the world for their line of thinking.
Along the lines of early postings -
Does anyone else remember a VERY early post on here from someone about whether the killer returned to the scene and their car was caught on tape? It was a video that showed a white car traveling on the road behind the house. The video did later come out publicly, but when it did I thought I remembered this same clip having been posted here WAY before.

Not to be obnoxious— but this is alleged, correct? Not yet proven, in other words? That is the part about Kbar coming from Amazon (my phone doesn’t let me bold anything)

Or someone violated the gag order. JMO.

#BryanKohberger will be arraigned Monday morning (Noon ET) on murder charges in the deaths of four University of Idaho students. We'll have streaming coverage Monday. Tag a reporter or expert you'd like to hear from on stream. Stream Link: https://youtube.com/live/TEboCSygWUc?feature=share @WFLA #HeyJB

I know the first question will be: "will you be allowed to stream the arraignment?" Answer: As with previous #Idaho hearings, cameras will be inside the courtroom, however the video feed cannot be shared until the proceeding is over. We'll stream it "as-live" the moment we can.

That comment by BK seemed, IMHO, to reflect what the media was reporting in the days after the murders. The crime of passion statement seems to have originated with Moscow's major, or at least he's the one being used as a source in assorted articles including the one I'm linking.

I think we're going to find out a lot about BK and really don't see the need for the media to dramatize things that aren't unusual or at least not alarmingly so. IMHO.

"Moscow Mayor Art Bettge said a property crime “gone wrong” or a “crime of passion” were possible explanations in the deaths of University of Idaho students Ethan Chapin, 20; Madison Mogen, 21; Xana Kernodle, 20; and Kaylee Goncalves, 21."

dated 14 Nov 2022

Edited to change quote and link because I'm not sure the original was approved source. Sorry about that!
Edited again to clarify that my response isn't directed at you @Twistinginthewind !!
Thanks for the link, I remember that, what the mayor supposedly said and LE or he later retracted it or walked it back. I still think, MOO, the murders may have been committed in such a way to look like a crime of passion, while I agree with your points about media dramatization. ETA: If BK asked that of his neighbor within days of the murders (looks like a crime of passion, don't you think, huh? - paraphrasing), I think he was testing the waters and trying to encourage that narrative, sorry if this wasn't clear in my earlier post. All JMO

I remember the second episode, and indeed, it left a very strange feeling, as if someone deeply ill spend a night in a girl's car, engaged in some weirdness. I remember the policemen advised the inhabitants to install cameras, and if I am not mistaken, they did it.
Incident was in March 2022 though. Was the idea BK was in town?

But the crime scene doesn't suggest they left their room at all at the time of the attack, as far as I know. They were both killed IN Xana's room. Xana's room isn't like D's room, centrally positioned. It is up a step and around a corner and down the opposite end of the house from the other killings. He went out of his way to go there. It's not like he ran into them coming down the stairs or in the kitchen. They weren't found anywhere near there.

MOO

  • (Nov 19, 2022 @margarita25 made a post about the white car. After a lot of discussion, it remained undecided if it was THE car.)
Noticing (white) car going by in background on hill at :42 - :43. Making note to look at this road closer on map.

Yes. I looked at it and compared it to an Elantra, MOO it wasn't an Elantra. IIRC the clip vwas from the afternoon when police were there.

I think I've been on a not a fan of media roll the last few weeks, and I know I expect more from the somewhat reputable sites than they seem willing to provide. - Not just in this case: it seems to be the new norm. I do remember that the mayor's comments were retracted -- more than a few things were (including the estimated time of death which was pushed forward about an hour in the PCA - but that's another matter). I do agree that BK could have been testing the waters. It wasn't that your post wasn't clear, and it wasn't even about what you said - it was the fact the media grabbed onto that conversation a while back and haven't let it go. And for me, since it's what was being published at the time, it would make sense to refer to it. But again I do agree that he still could have been testing the waters or looking for a reaction.

Also, in Moscow, close to the King Road House, about a month or so before (IIRC) a student who lived in a sorority nearby reported that she had left a suitcase in her car overnight, and in the morning the suitcase was found outside of her car. And stuff she had in her car in the center console, etc. were now in the suitcase. And a piece of her underwear that had been in her suitcase was placed in a cubby area of her side door console. Creepy and weird, police came and took a report, agreed it was weird. No proof this was related to BK, but they wonder if BK was progressing toward the murders by taking steps of peeping, doing odd things.

Now they wonder if BK was involved in some of these reports around the time before the murders and in the area.
This event happened on March 2, 2022. This is before BK would have started at WSU. I suppose BK might have been on a campus visit OR this could indicate the presence of some other stalker in the area but we have no information thus far to indicate he was or was not in the area at the time. It looks like Desales University has spring break from early March to March 11 so it is possible BK could have been in the area. Housing Calendar The house in question is on Queen Rd in the cul de sac and it backs up to 1122 King Rd's backyard. There is police bodycam video of this incident available on Youtube which TOS does not permit linking here. There was a shoe print on the front seat of the complainant's car and in the police bodycam video, it appears that an officer takes a photo of the shoe print. Would be interesting to know if the shoe print was the same as the shoe print around at 1122 King Rd including the same size. I wonder if the Moscow PD has made this comparison?

Dateline was exploring the possibility that BK could have been anywhere during the academic year when he was studying at DeSales, since it was all remote study at that time, according to Dateline.

I am almost 100% sure it was @Tealgrove who posted it here first, this is just from memory though and I'm too lazy to search :p.
I can't speak for anywhere else though, I haven't followed the case on reddit.
Ha ha! Ya, it was me.

I started searching on line for KBar knives and they all came with a branded Sheath.

Who knew???

I thought they said the underwear episode happened the March prior?

Yes, but Dateline was exploring two theories - first: that BK could have been anywhere while he was studying remotely during the academic year at DeSales University; and second: that a serial killer would likely progress to that stage, not just go out and commmit a mass murder. So they were looking at the kinds of crimes a person would commit at various stages, peeping Tom, stalking, voyeurism, etc. and that's why they included some LE reports in the area of the King Road home that happened five months before the murders.

March 2, 2022 - when DeSales University was on Spring Break.
Wh6 would he target that area on spring break?
Maybe he traced someone down while in PA on SM and then went to the area?

  • #140
Was he considered a suspect in the break-in before he was considered a suspect in the killings?

That I don't know - hopefully someone else caught the order of events.

imo
