In my opinion....
It doesn't mean anything for the case except now we know for sure the jury won't be walking through it which is normal. It is not common for juries to walk through crime scenes. They have such good crime scene visuals for the jury now with the FARO Focus 3D Laser Scanner.
This month the defense wants to get some "last minute" information from the home for trial and the FBI was there on Halloween and got their "last minute" FARO Scans and drone footage done for the prosecution.
Agree, It would be the best thing if BK told all.
A plea deal is always a negotiation, the defense gives something in return for the prosecution giving something back. Both sides need to benefit in some way.
So how would the prosecution benefit from BK pleading guilty in exchange - for getting in return - LWOP? In my opinion they wouldn't be getting enough from a guilty plea because they already have a very compelling case and do not need a guilty plea to get a conviction. I believe they will easily get their guilty conviction.
But anyway, there is one key thing the families and the prosecutors do not have and would not get with just a guilty plea, and that is the details of all the aspects of the crime and also the motivation.
Now this is definitely something the families really want, the public wants, and the court wants. All the details of his crime, why did he do it? How did he choose the victims? Why kill 4? What happened step by step that night? How did he prepare? Etc....
The point I want to make is that I can see one reason and one reason only for the prosecution to offer BK the plea deal of dropping the DP and going with, as they call it in Idaho, a fixed life sentence.....
That he plead guilty along with giving detailed testimony of all the details of the crimes and of course his motivations, of which I believe to be multifaceted. This can include leading investigators to the knife and where other murder items are hidden. Plea deals can include all this as happened in the Ohio Rhoden family murders when 2 of the 4 defendants pleaded guilty in plea deals.
I want to add that there is a good reason why BK might be advised to not do a plea deal and that could be because when you admit guilt taking a plea deal, you lose your right to appeal. It is all over for you.
