Well, you know every surgery has it's risks and lung transplant is about as major as you can get. But relax. I meet new people all the time after their surgeries and they seem to be doing fine. Vanderbilt has only had one go wrong in the last year, so they are doing good. And I am healthy other than my lungs.

Good lord, what's the lung transplant for? Moist O2 is always better for lungs (I am a nurse) that is why 02 is usually humidified...

Oh, Goody, I had no idea you were having problems with your lungs. I'm so sorry. I've only read a little on lung transplants... are you on a donor waiting list? If so, will it be an immediate thing once you're notified... will there be time to notify your WS friends that you'll be out of commission for a bit?

I knew as soon as I typed it that I was probably wrong re Mulder being the one who initially requested the change of venue, but I knew you sharpies would catch it if I was wrong! LOL! I did remember correctly that Mulder asked for a 2nd change of venue but it was denied.

No, I didn't attend the trial. I just saw bits and pieces of her courtroom appearances on TV at night. Also, remember that I had worked for the Judge in this trial, so got some information directly from him.

Yes, I am a survivor by nature. So I am sure I will do fine. I have only one daughter and 3 sons. Between them (the boys) and TJ, they have really toughened me up. But when the time comes, I sure would appreciate all of your prayers. Cami will have the scoop, I am sure. She is my official communication sleuther. She will keep y'all posted. My lung usage is about 24% right now, which is an improvement from 20% a few months ago.

Yes, I am on the waiting list. When they have one, they will call me in and it will be within hours of my arrival at the hospital. They put you thru a bunch of tests before to make sure nothing has changed,then they rush you into surgery because they only have a certain amount of time to transplant it. They get you up in about three days, and you are out of the hospital in about three weeks, but they make you stay near the hospital for 3 ot 4 months, so I will be out of commission for awhile. But TJ might bring a computer to the apt we will be staying in. If he does, I will get a little bit of computer time. I will be rehab during the 3 months there as well. So it will be a busy time. (Nothing better happen on this case while I am out!!!!)

Cami and TJ got to know each other the last time I was in the hospital so they have each other's email addys and have promised to keep you guys informed.

Poor Mulder takes a beating on this case,doesn't he? LOL! I used to let him have it, too, but I have finally got it all in perspective. I do think the judge surprised him by not giving him a continuance. Think I asked you this before, but Don Davis had it in his book that the judge wanted to retire after the Routier trial, that he even delayed his retirement to hear the case. Is that true?

I guess most defendants roll their eyes when they think the testimony isn't true. Some probably do it, thinking they can fool the jury into thinking something isn't true when it is. I doubt if it works though. Like you got irritated with it, I would think jury members would, too.

I just don't feel I know Darlie. Sometimes I think she is one way and other times I think she is different. I just can't really land on an opinion about her. I don't have any doubt that she killed at least one of these kids and probably both. But I can't put my finger on why. I guess that is what keeps my posting about it. I still want to solve the little mysteries left unanswered. That and I have made some nice online friends.

I am on Helios 02 now, liquid 02, and it is a lot better than the compressed. I actually get around pretty good for someone in my condition. I still cook and do dishes, feed the dogs, let dogs out, let dogs in, do my laundry (altho laundry is really,. really hard) Housework is almost impossible but I manage some of it. Then there is that treadmill staring at me everyday. I gotta do 20 minutes a day. My docs are amazed, esp my rehab doc. She said she didn't expect me to come back after my last stint. She thought I would pretty much be in a wheel chair. But I am not. I walk pretty good on a good day, jsut not very far. Thank God for those grocery scooters. I love them!!! I haven't hit anybody yet!!

As for why the transplant? To improve the quality of my life. It won't lenghten life but it will make life easier on a daily basis. I won't be on 02 after the transplant if it goes well. I might even be able to do alittle gardening, and of course, I'll be able to drive again and get caught up on my housework, if the place doesn't turn into a big dust ball and self destruct before my surgery. hahahaha. And I will be able to do these things much quicker than I can now. Now just cooking dinner is a major event. What used to take 45 min to 1 hour might take 2 hours or more. I have to do everything in stages and really plan my steps. Can be very annoying, esp when you stay on the computer too long. If I do that now, I have to open a can of soup and save dinner to be cooked tomorrow. TJ grumbles but he tolerates it.

Goody, I'm so glad TJ and Cami will be able to keep us posted on when you're having your surgery. It would be great, too, if they could give us an address to send cards and stuff to the hospital while you're there for 3 weeks. Perhaps you could just PM one of us with that info rather than put it directly on the forum. I'll keep you in my prayers that your call for surgery comes soon!

I'm not sure how Sue1017's name was placed over my posts (in your last post), but I'm the one who made those statements. Yes, Judge Tolle did retire following Darlie's trial. He's a wonderful man, as is his entire family. I haven't kept up with them in recent years but did for probably 15 years or so. He was always very careful about what he said about the case (fear of being quoted in papers?) but did say she was where she should be (DR).

So many people, even after all of these years, comment on where the trial was held or the change of venue. I just want to remind everyone that there would have been NO change of venue if Doug Mulder hadn't requested one. As soon as he was assigned Kerrville, though, he knew he had made a big mistake and tried to have it changed again, but to no avail. He was the one that set that ball in motion so, if you want to blame someone, blame him. He knew when he requested the change of venue that he had to take the roll of the dice. He was hoping they would get lucky, but they didn't.

And, as far as a new trial for Darlie, I say no way! She was the most beligerant witness I've ever encountered on the stand and was definitely her own worst enemy. Heck, just sitting at the defense table was a bit much for her to control the looks and sneers on her face. Someone should have had the foresight to lock her in a closet before that trial began. If I'd seen her roll her eyes one more time, I would have come unglued!

I thought it was her PDs who requested the change of venue, not Mulder?

She was "flat" during her testimony about the boys and showed no reaction to her son's pix, but I also read she was snappish during questioning. She was a bad witness, as you know from the transcripts, her story changed several times and she often fell back on her TA. I think it's Springer or maybe every author who comments on her sneering and rolling her eyes while seated at the defense table. She shook her head and whispered "no" alot. This is all from books, as you know, I wasn't there.
I've always found it funny that the Darlies and her family alway say she was "flat" because of the meds she was taking, Paxil and something else. But then other times, they say people are lying and that she was very emotional. They can't have it both ways. I'm on the strongest dose of Paxil. Shouldn't be a surprise to most of you. LOL..mainly they put me on it because I was constantly worrying I was going to have a seizure. Of course being upset about something can cause seizures. Obviously I am not "flat" emotionally! I have noticed I don't give a hoot about the house being clean whereas before I cleaned everday. Oh well. So Paxil does not take everything out of you at all, nor does it make you HAPPY

The only time she cried real real tears was when she was destroyed on the witness stand by Shook. Tears of self-pity.
