7.0 Earthquake Hits Haiti Hospital Collapses

I don't get it. We've been discussing the earthquake from every angle. I think there is a post or two way back in the thread that reflects a negative, uncompassionate viewpoint. Most of us posting want to help, have helped and will continue to help (monetarily). We are trying to understand, trying to sort out what is happening. We are noticing when something positive happens, we are pointing out the hindrances but trying not to do that in a vile way. We realize the vast logistics involved due to the earthquake and the poor infrastructure that existed even before the earthquake hit.

What is this really about? Why are certain poster's so angry? Can we not discuss viewpoints without all the anger? It seems that the side complaining wants to be allowed to express what they want to express but then is mad at others for doing the same. Why are certain people "yelling"?

The suffering happening now in Haiti was not caused by anyone on this forum. What gives?

By the way Sleuthster, Where are you getting the statistic of 200,000 killed? I have not heard that number reported. Is that a confirmed statistic now? I have heard anywhere from 70,000 to 500,000 over the past few days.

Quoting religious scripture does nothing for this discussion nor does it do ANYTHING for the people of Haiti.

LEAVE RELIGION OUT OF IT. Unless there is a specific religious news story that is connected to this tragedy then drop it please.

I don't get why you want to bring religion into this. It only gets people mad and no one is going to change any one's mind. Please be respectful of others beliefs and leave any religious discussion to the proper forum.

By the way Sleuthster, Where are you getting the statistic of 200,000 killed? I have not heard that number reported. Is that a confirmed statistic now? I have heard anywhere from 70,000 to 500,000 over the past few days.

200,000 is the estimate that the government of Haiti issued.

I don't believe that anyone on this form is angry. I believe that we should get back to the subject at hand and that is the earthquake. BTW, the jury room is more suitable for discussing viewpoints as I have heard.

In some forums a while back, it was stated religious beliefs are allowed because that is what some people live by. Have the rules changed, or do they go forum by forum? What are the rules on religion?

I don't know Trident. But I do know that sometimes the timing is not right for every type of discussion. Myself and others were not being sensitive in trying to discuss broader more philosophical angles of why earthquakes happen in the midst of a tragedy. That's what came to me through my prayers anyway. To everything there is a season.

United brought a large group of people through O'Hare yesterday or the day before or both? I'm not clear about it because I heard two reports but don't know if they were regarding the same group or not. People are connecting with their relatives who are already in the States. The Hilton Hotel put the group up for the night after they arrived. Yesterday the group continued their journey to connect with their families.

Yesterday in the Telethon an older man with short white hair sang the most wonderful song and I am trying to find out what it was. I think the first line had to do with 'swimming with the dolphins' and then it talked about 'just be a hero for today', or SS.

Hi scandi. I had recorded the second hour because I couldn't watch it at the time. I don't have the first hour recorded. Was the "older man" singing with another guy toward the end of the Telethon? It took me a minute to realize that was Neil Young but who was the younger man who was singing too? (nothing about dolphins though).

Also does anybody know who sang "Hallelujah" along with Justin Timberlake? Beautiful. I think he's a well known guitarist but I can't think of his name.

My husband just walked through the room I'm in where they are reporting that a 24 year old man has been found alive on day eleven. My husband said "that's impossible" and looked skeptical. Now they are reporting that the man may have had access to water from some nearby pipes or some other source which would make it possible to survive.

It was Neil Young and Dave Matthews that sang the duet. Yes, they were very good and it was quite moving. I didn't think Neil Young could sing anymore - don't know why but I did.

Hi Woe, I only saw one man singing the song, very slowly like every word mattered to him. I plugged it into Google and OMG, no wonder it was such a great song ~ David Bowie wrote the words to it, 'HEROES'. I still don't know who the older white haired man was who sang it in the Telethon.

Thanks guys. For some reason that song seems to set the tone for what happened in Haiti. So many people have given their all to help, from the heart. And never thinking they were heroes, they could all be swimming with dolphins. So many incredible people we have in our world. xox
