8.3 Earthquake in Chile and Tsunami Warnings

Some reporter said that whales have disappeared from the area they usually are in... guess they have moved out to safer waters.

remember the big island was hit by that big earthquake a few years ago.l Wonder if it will hve any impact.

You are talking about the 2 big ones along the Kohala coast... I don't think it will be an issue, or at least I hope nothing moves under the water to cause an issue, since those 2 earthquakes caused destruction in Kona, along Kohala and all the way up to the observatories on Mauna Kea.

Reporter saying water is starting to come back in - "looks like a current filling in the ______ and we just gotta see how high - how damaging the wave will be."

That was surreal to see the Bay in a drain out and then quick fill up... nothing massive but enough of a change to raise eyebrows.

Looks to me like the water is going back out to sea. Reporter confirming what I see.

yep I am and you are right. Mauna Kea Hotel is my home away from home when I am in HI and the destruction to the coastal hotels was severe. Hilo is the other side of the island.

Just looking at the camera views of Hawaii makes me want to go back again, just not right now. It is such beautiful country !

Reporting that Argentina, Salta, just had a 6.3 earthquake. No additional at this point.

Isn't that area just beautiful!!!! Hilton's Waikiloa resort is the place I go for pampering, when we aren't staying down in Kona. I love the long drive from the Kohala coast around into Hilo... gorgeous views. (I would love to retire to Hawi)

reporting that water coming up fast. talking about finger of reef and how it was covered with water in just 5 minutes.

Very fast recession of water from Hilo Bay - whitewater showing speed, turbulence.
