Brooklyn, NY. A 15-year-old girl was attacked by a large group of teenagers who stole her sneakers in Crown Heights on Thursday afternoon, according to video the NYPD released Friday morning.

The group attacked her about 4:10 p.m. Thursday at Utica Avenue and Sterling Place, jumping on top of her and punching and kicking her repeatedly, according to video and police. One of the boys was seen taking sneakers off her feet while she was unconscious.

They robbed her sneakers, cellphone, and debit card before running off in different directions, police said in a release.

The teen girl was taken to Kings County Hospital in stable condition, where she was treated for bruises and swelling on her face.

"We CAN NOT allow this behavior in our community," Assistant Chief Jeffrey Maddrey wrote on Twitter.

Chief of Department Terence Monahan added in a tweet the NYPD needs "the help of every New Yorker so they can arrest those responsible."

If you pause that video every couple of seconds, you can track EIGHTEEN young males attacking her. I’m guessing high school, as most look pretty tall, wearing backpacks- appear like they all just got out of school. I wonder what time dismissal was.

I think you're right, and nearby faculty were probably called back in to review the frame-by-frame images with LE.

The thief walking away with her shoes seems quite recognizable, IMHO.

Dear God in Heaven, where does this kind of thing come from in 2020? Why did they all think this is OK?

They’re all recognizable imho. Distinct jackets, shoes, height, haircuts. They’re as good as caught. And if there’s any doubt, one of those eighteen will squeal.

The mother of the one of the teens charged in the caught-on-camera beatdown of a 15-year-old Brooklyn girl defended her son as a good kid Saturday — but admitted she was furious with him.

“When I saw the video I literally wanted to kill him with my own hands,” said Donna Howell, 42, while waiting for her son’s arraignment. “I was very, very pissed off.”

Howell’s 14-year-old is one of five teens between the ages of 14 and 17 who were charged with robbery and gang assault after turning themselves in at the 77th Precinct stationhouse Friday night.

“He didn’t want to go at first and I said, ‘No you’re going to go, you’re going to turn yourself in,’ " she recalled. Howell then left the house to run an errand, and found her son gone when she came back.

“He had just walked and turned himself in [to police],” she said.

Police were questioning five suspects and have a motive in the vicious mob beating of a 15-year-old girl on a Brooklyn street, law enforcement sources said Friday.

Cops were grilling the teenage boys in Crown Heights Friday after a group of teens savagely attacked the girl Thursday — as retaliation for a fight she got into earlier in the day, according to the sources.

The caught-on-camera beating unfolded after the girl allegedly beat up another girl earlier in the day at school, according to the sources.

The group of teenage attackers were allegedly friends with the girl who the victim had tussled with, law enforcement sources said.

I’d quadruple like this if I could. A mom doing the right thing- making him face his consequences even if scary for his future. Turning himself in & having parent sentiment like that should help at sentencing. Mo

Conflicting reports on victim though. Portrayed as picking a fight with another girl, but a neighbor said, “she doesn’t get in trouble, she doesn’t deserve that," said 13-year-old neighbor Jacob Black. "She’s a basketball player, that’s all she does.”

And -- sounds like the 14-year-old walked himself right into the police station!

Surely steps in the right direction!

IMHO must be one tough young lady, if 18 guys are sent to subdue her....
