A Little Girl's Dying Wish

I think releasing him early just opens up a can of worms. Letting him see his dying daughter is a totally different issue than "he's served his time". I'm sure there are probably hundreds on inmates in a similar "served his/her time already" that are still in prison. IMO anyway! lol We can agree to disagree, I hope.

I agree with you. He should have thought of his family... that little girl... when he was out committing his crimes. He was sentenced and should finish out that sentence. While I am very symathetic to the situation with his daughter, letting him out to visit is way more than anyone else would be given... he should be grateful he has been given a chance to say goodbye to her - which again is much more than other prisoners are afforded.

It is ironic for us to be sitting here and demanding anyone be let out of jail early after a conviction. I just noticed how odd that seemed. Normally, we are screaming, "No way!" I guess we do truly value our children and have a realistic sense of justice. Nice to know. :)

There are many factors to consider here: the circumstances are truly exceptional; normally low-risk federal prisoners are allowed to attend the funeral of an immediate family member so why not be allowed to see them when death is imminent; the father has almost finished serving a relatively light sentence; if he had been serving the same sentence in a state prison he'd have been paroled years ago; chances of him escaping are practically nil; by being needlessly heartless federal authorities are punishing a dying child, not just her father; etc.

When time is of the essence the federal correctional system should have in place a policy of urgent need that would speed things up. I wouldn't be surprised if the father gets the green light... long after her daughter is gone and by then he would have attended her funeral already, or even finished serving his sentence.

I remember a case from MI when I was a teenager. A guy that my brother grew up with was in jail for rape of a 17 year old girl.(he was 19) His mother had ovarian cancer and was not going to make it. He was given the chance to see his mother, either before she died or at her funeral. He chose to see her before she died. He had to go with guards and handcuffed/shackled to see her at the Hospice. She did die soon after. :*( It came out a couple of years later (as he was being released) that the accuser made up the story, just as he had always said. She was angry that he broke up with her and had begun dating her friend. :( So sad. She managed to convince a jury that she was raped, and he lost the last years of his mother's life, not to mention his young adulthood.

So sad...
At least there is comfort in knowing she is free of her pain.

Bless little Jayci's heart. I had a feeling it would be soon after her dad's visit that she would let go.

She's free of pain and suffering now.

My thoughts and prayers to her family and friends.

I am so glad that he was able to be there with her on Wednesday. I hope he told her how much he loved her and told her it was ok to let go. I hope he told her she would be ok and not to be afraid.

Thanks everyone who wrote letters and emails and made phone calls.

Jayci died last night and her Daddy wasn't with her. Jason Yaeger's last visit with her was on Wednesday- this article says it was a 20 minute visit. At least she's free of her pain now:

:(

May she rest in peace.
IMO, It matters not that her father wasnt' there the very minute she died. It matters he had the chance to sat with her for 20 minutes before she left this earth.

You're right. I just wish she could have had him holding her when she passed. At least she had her Mommy.

Jeez, poor guy. I hope the girl was prosecuted for perjury and sued?

I wrote to several entities about this case, but only now just heard back from the Governor. (Nobody else replied.) Here's what they wrote:

Governor Rounds of South Dakota received your recent e-mail about Jayci Yaeger. Thank you for your concern regarding this sad situation. There has been much misinformation about this case. The first point of clarification we would like to make is that Inmate Yeager is a federal prisoner residing at the Federal Prison Camp in Yankton, SD. He is not under the jurisdiction of the State of South Dakota. When we became aware of this particular situation, our staff contacted the Chief of the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Washington, DC. Although the inmate is not eligible for a furlough under federal regulations, the federal prison staff in Yankton has escorted him to see his daughter in the hospital three times in the last 45 days and they are currently planning a 4th trip there. Additionally the warden has authorized unlimited phone calls between the inmate and his daughter's hospital room.

We agree with you that the way this story has been portrayed in some media releases has sounded very heartless. When we learned what the federal authorities had been doing to facilitate visits to the girl's bedside, we felt somewhat better about this heartbreaking situation.

TM here again - I thank the Governor's office for at least trying to get with the right people to help out and for their reply. I think Greg Jarrett on Fox said there was a problem reaching the heart of people at the state AG office...which would explain no reply from them! :(

At least Mr. Yeager had unlimited phone access and one last visit before she died. I am thankful for that.

This happened after we moved, so I never heard the outcome. Last I heard, he was working with his lawyer on it. I will have to ask my brother.

The walls of the prison are wailing in grief. Even though he was allowed time to be with his dying daughter nothing takes the pain away. The mom just as soon be in prison too. Not literally but what her heart is going through right now.

Such a sad, sad story with such an unhappy ending.

I want to bust cancer in the butt! I hate cancer it destroys so many people's lives and even after you are free for awhile the fear stays on. Never being totally released from its grips. Or physical impairments as a result. Quit spending money on wars that we can't win and keep the money home and let these scientists do what is on the brink and do something good. Quit blowing people's limbs off all in the name of pseudo politics.

I am sorry this has really gotten to me and I had to let off some steam. Again, I am sorry for being a 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬.
