Well, so far as anyone knows, she never killed any of her old boyfriends, besides Travis. I suppose there's that.

She was kind enough to write Ryan Burns and tell him he was never in any danger from her.

She offered Deanna a freshly baked cookie once.

She might have tipped the Starbucks barristas although there was no testimony to that effect.

She did send Travis's grandma flowers, they could use that, couldn't they?

She smiled when Nurmi said he doesn't like her 9 out of 10 days, that's nice, right?

I thought of a few more possibilities:

She made a mean margarita; albeit she broke a few glasses along the way.

She was a very polite server who always made sure her customers' meals were served promptly.

She's always smiling at the least expected times.

Except for the ex she murdered, she always maintained good relationships with former boyfriends.

She's the perfect role model for younger women in regard to "how not to treat people."

She's thrifty and is an excellent record-keeper (or "not-keeper" as the situation warrants).

She's a strong advocate for sex education. (Oh, strike that. She educates about sex to an audience who doesn't want to see or hear about her personal experiences.)

i don't think her reaction to nurmi's comment was abnormal. i doubt she cares much for him, either. it's, at the very best, a strictly professional relationship. and it was a funny comment.

I respectfully disagree. Kirk Nurmi wasn't cracking a joke. And JA was the only person in that courtroom that smiled. Not one other person even allowed a corner of their mouth to rise....
A normal person, hearing the closing argument in their death penalty trial would not be smiling at that moment, or at that comment. Kirk Nurmi is not one of my favorite people, but he was working it for all it was worth for her. He was making a deadly serious point.
But that is just my opinion. That moment is the only time she touched the kind and caring part of me. And it soon passed. She's been a lost and empty shell for a long time.

Yeah, he says than now. I would not put it past the National Enquirer to publish the alleged TA's letters that JA's mom says she has after the penalty phase of the trial is over. Time will tell.

When I saw that reaction to Nurmi's statement, I felt so sad for her. She is truly pathetic. That reaction was so abnormal. That is one of the rare times she gave a full on, toothy smile. Like a small child, almost. There is so much wrong with her. Too much to ever fix. She has no reparable parts.... My feeling sad for her is not to be confused with my loathing of her. Just for a split second I saw a little, tiny girl. Who is disheveled, dirty, lost and so confused that she doesn't even know what she's hearing. And she did it all to herself. Willingly.

Beach - I have watched the clip of her smiling over and over again. It is so bizarre and I just can't "place" it. It is definitely not normal. I posted about it before...It's almost like someone smiling while listening to a speech that is being made about them...Like at a wedding or special event. Very weird reaction given her circumstance.

IMO, in the interview, JA did NOT want her comment about wanting the DP rather than "natural life" to be construed as a suicide threat. She is PISSED beyond pissed now I bet.

I don't think she did either. If an inmate wants to be on suicide watch it's as simple as telling a guard you're having thoughts of suicide. No reason to orchestrate a TV interview with cryptic comments about the ultimate freedom.

I think you cleared that up for me. Given her 'both sides of the fence' comments, I now think that her seething anger bubbled up and she made the comment in the interview but didn't mean that she would off herself. She was clearly packing up her crayons and refusing to play anymore. You're spot on.

I have an attorney friend (not associated with the trail) who told me the same thing. He also reminded me that she has been talking with psychologists for years. BFFs with both samuals and alv...she knows crazy...real and pretend. He says he will not be surprised if the trial does not continue on Wednesday. OR....he surmises that Sheriff Joe sent her to the cray cray ward to shut her up (which is what I think as well)and the docs at the cray cray house will tell the court she is competent to continue on Wednesday. He also told me he would be EXTREMELY surprised if JSS allowed the motion to video tape the victim statements from the Alexander's. He has watched much of the trial as he is now retired. He says in his opinion JSS was overly lenient towards the defense...but since this is her first DP trial he is giving her a pass. But he noticed some of her facial expressions and IHO, she is ready to get ja out of her court room. Again in his opinion she should have come out strong regarding rules in her court room and then enforced them. He also thought the DT made a huge mistake by allowing ja to draw through out the trial. As well as keeping her on the stand for so long. She is not likable and the longer she was on the stand the less likable she was. And the more ammunition given to the prosecution. Her change in attitude from her defense questioning and the prosecution questioning was also a nail in her coffin. JM baited her and she took the bait every time. He said the jury watches this kind of thing with eagle eyes. As well as the TV interview.....big mistake. The jury is instructed not to watch anything about the trial, but the judge and her staff are free to watch whatever they want. And a good staff will make the trial judge aware of many things. :facepalm: Oh and he said all the people who were saying JM was over bearing and it would turn the jury off are now eating crow. IHO the jury was as turned off as we were by kn's slowness and his obvious delight in taking about sex. And by jw trying to mimic JM's methods....worked for him, didn't work for her. He felt the way the Alexander's conducted themselves in the court room was more than admirable and again the jury is very observant. Just thought I share my friends observations/opinions. BTW, he did give me permission to share his observations and opinions.

EXACTLY! There is a ...and this isn't quite what I want to say but I'm lost for the right words....warmth about that smile that throws me! If you muted it and had no idea what was being said or what the setting was, you would think it WAS a wedding speech or a speech in honor of her. That look and that smile were 1,000,000% OFF.

Morning all! That's exactly what I'm picturing....but that would almost guarantee the worst possible ending for their client. The jury has already found her guilty of pre-meditation, so they have no affection for her. If the jurors see JW or KN objecting and cutting up while TA's family is given heartfelt, obviously heart broken statements...they will show her no mercy. I think that's why the DT wants the statements vetted beforehand...they know that they will make enemies of the entire world if they continue the antics that they have engaged in during the trial while the victims are speaking.

That's why I hope JSS denies the motion (there's no way she won't IMO)...the DT and JA will both be forced to sit there and take it.

I found it very strange. Why would TA's Webmaster even give the Hughes TA's passcodes to his emails and Google chat? If I knew a person's passcode I would never give out to anyone who would ask. Why would the Webmaster even have the passcodes to TA's personal email/Google? I thought a Webmaster maintained a web site. Was the Webmaster with PPL? If so, why would TA use his PPL email acct for personal use?

Ya ... my hinky meter goes off a bit with regard to C&S Hughes. IMO they were waaaay too intrusive in Travis's life and also did some invading of privacy. Not that I'm protecting the murderer/stalker/felon ... but there is just something that doesn't quite sit right with me in the "Hughes" department. Anyway ... I could be way off ... but it's just a gut feeling....

Arias told Troy Hayden in the post-verdict interview that Kirk Nurmi told her she has no mitigating factors.

I just watched the video of the family and friends' reaction to the verdict. I mean like about a dozen times. I wanted to see the reaction of each of his loved ones at the moment they heard the word "guilty". Such a gratifying moment in time.

They are such a good group of people, so respectful and they were really mindful of the courts instruction not to have any outbursts. The smile on Samantha's face! She is smiling so broadly and then at one point closes her eyes and you just know the relief is palpable.

Then I watched some of Juan's closing remarks, specifically about the CDs. That was aMAZING, really. I think those were lost in the sea of BS spewed by the defense team, and Juan really used the facts of those CDs to nail premeditation. Really brought the premeditation home for the jury.

She was planning to use those CDs as an excuse to 'drop by' unannounced to his home that day.

God I long for the day when the minutae of this trial fades away in my mind. It will fade away, right?

People want to know what good "we" get out of obsessing over these trials. Most people think it's because we want all the Gorey details, and for sensationalism. I do it because I want to see justice for the family members, and to see the perpetrators getting what they deserve. Hearing the words, "premeditated murder, guilty" was a rush! Seeing the family members elated, was a rush. Seeing Jodi Arias gasp, was a rush. Just knowing 12 people heard the same evidence as me, and came to the same conclusion, was a rush. That's justice! If I were starting my life over again, I'd be a prosecutor. I can't think of any job that would be more rewarding. These men and woman are real heros!

I think it was a striking moment just because it's the only time I've ever seen her seem to have a genuine emotion.
