OT but I was listening to a true crime radio show from Canada last night and the host was talking to a blogger during deliberations and they were saying that the jury was going to hang, that it was manslaughter and proven, they were sure Juan had stuffed the whole thing up, and that there was no premeditation anyway etc etc .. It was great fun. I bet there's a lot of radio hosts and bloggers out there who wish there was a rock big enough to hide underneath right now ..

That photo ... I was looking for fear but could not see it (widened eyes, opened mouth). That photo disturbs me. Especially, knowing the circumstances. I thought angry, maybe confusion also.

The darker photos beforehand that seem to be taken without his realising (?). Maybe he thought she had left. He doesn't look too happy in them, at all. Lowered head - maybe disappointed with himself, unhappy. Closed eyes - definitely deep in thought, unhappy, disappointed.

Of course, they are open to interpretation. I really appreciate your input on this. I've been wanting to hear what everyone else thought. :)

Those who knew him best have the most insight. Maybe one will say something in their victim impact statement.

Are you guys talking about actual bugs or JA supporters? I zoned out and missed the beginning of that conversation.

Just some thoughts I need to voice.

...And for that I wish you had used your real names -- because, for that, you have truly earned the respect of thousands.
- respectfully snipped

gramma. You took the words right out of my mind. Thank you for your thought provoking post. Sadly, I never posted my like thoughts because I would be a little more 'unkind' in my words. I haven't posted alot. I have typed alot of posts and replies to many posts. But once I type them out, I more often than not delete them without sending, to keep from getting a time out (laughs), but I sit here and talk to you all out loud in my office and from home where my hubby glances at me like i've lost my mind talking at my ipad (laughs). No, I'm not crazy. I'm NOT!

Thank you.

They were removed.. I am not sure if this is the guy who was arrested during the trial?? for Drunk driving???
I think # 11 was the one who was ill and Juror 5 was the one who was removed and came back.

I loved that all three of them were in the audience during the verdict.

what exactly does the "mitigation specialist" do?

Her job is to help in the mitigation phase. Her job is to help with this one phase. To help save Jodi's life.

Would there be any circumstance where JA would be allowed to speak (aka : lie) again? I know if they enter the phase of DP.... that her DT will use witnesses to proclaim how her life should be spared - but will *she* get to speak? (please say no!!!)

Yes-she can take the stand and beg the jury not to kill her

I"m starting to wonder if Civics isn't taught like it used to be. Or maybe peeps have never seen the penalty phases...it's pretty tough so if we get there; be prepared to put on your thick skin if you have it handy. I've always found the DP phases to be the most interesting at trial. That's just me, usually they involve physiologist and shrinks assessments. I hope that ALV never sees a dime for her "book"...after all of this.

When I was a junior in high school, we had a year-long course that was Government one semester and Economics the other. We discussed debating and were assigned topics in groups of four. I was one the team that had to debate the Death Penalty: Two of us were "in favor" of the DP while the other two argued against the DP. Since Michigan doesn't have the Death Penalty, it was not a process that was familiar to us but was fascinating to research and present arguments on both sides. I haven't ever watched the Penalty phase of a DP trial but will definitely tune in if this case gets to that point.

I think she does feel remorse. She's remorseful for testifying about her suicide attempt where she nicked her wrist with a dull bic razor and quit because it stung!! Juan has turned that statement around and used it against her. He is brilliant that way!

I think she's remorseful for indulging her sadistic desire to cut his throat. That's going to put her on death row. :moo:

I see sadness and the realization of what JA was, what was coming next, and the understanding that there was nothing he could do to stop it. Travis knew he was going to die right then, and I think in that instant he was very very sad.

Lets say JA truly did want the death penalty. Could she have said at any point judge, give me the death penalty and let everyone else get back to their family?

No. Even if Jodi said "I'm guilty. Put me to death", there'd still be a trial with Jodi entering a "not guilty" plea. In the event the DP is given, Jodi can waive any appeals.

She was sitting in the back next to JC this morning, and speaking by phone to VP later.

If the jury finds there was extra cruelty, when would the mitigation/sentencing phase begin? Would it start right away (today)?
