It's not uncommon for homicide detectives to work a kidnapping case. In many departments in small towns, they have only a major crimes unit that works on all cases... kidnap, rape, and murder, etc. Not sure if that is true there, but people keep saying Anchorage is a small town, so I doubt if their police dept. has a separate crew for each type of crime. (And IMO, they may feel that this will end up a homicide case.)

Anchorage is a big city TxLady. I thought the same thing as you bc in the beginning people kept saying "like a small town where everybody knows everybody", but it's actually large. There's over 200,000 people that live there, maybe even closer to 300,000. It's the size of Orlando, FL.

I'd like to ask a mod if we can research that big drug bust in January. I know everyone is speculating Sam's abduction could have something to do with drugs but we're confuzzled how IK fits into it all.

I'm actually looking at the driver. My hunch is she could be a link. How does the DEA investigate dealers? They start with the driver being placed under surveillance. Once said driver is caught with a big load, they plea by snitching. I wonder if Sam was abducted to prevent the dealer from being brought down. I mean, who knows, it could just be something random afterall. However, when researching MH-P, she has ties in TX, AZ, CA, WA and also UT. Funny how that goes bc so does IK...

Maybe just a coincidence... In her old MS, she said she was going to TX & stopping in Vegas. Didn't IK just do that as well?

You are correct, and geographically it is HUGE. The city limits of Anchorage (admittedly way outside the actual "city") extend further than twice the state of Rhode Island.

Okay, just to speculate wildly here. SK gets a little side job, driving CB around while he is making his drug deals. By doing this, she gets a great idea of who his regular customers are, who the big spenders are, AND who the bigger dealers and distributors are. Because she would have also driven him to drop the $ off to his dealers and then re-supply himself.
It was said she was driving him around to sell pot. But I think it may have included other things as well. Either way, she knew a lot about some dealers and buyers at some point.

Fast forward, and there was a BIG drug bust in town. And it may or may not have included someone close to IK. But if it did, it makes me wonder again if SK might have been a paid informant or an informant who was trying to get out of her own situation at the time.

And guess how much the busted driver made for each run? Her average was $1500-$2000 each run... JK said SK did it fir extra money or gas...something like that. Well that's alot of darn money & she didn't have a Hummer for crying out loud. Omg, extra money, really?

I want to know what this truck has to do with it all? Are you really going to commit a crime with your construction companies name and phone number on it?

Are they just showing it for more info about him, jobs, friends, daily stops (like coffee stands)?

That's why I think CB was just a small time pot dealer. She probably got a hundred dollars or so each time. IMHO

You're right. It's weird to say the least. When my hubby had his own business, he had large vinyl car magnets that went on the sides of his Silverado. When we'd go out to dinner or something in his truck, he'd put those magnets in one of his truck bed toolboxes. Only speculating...

I didn't get the impression he was a dealer. I thought more along the lines of small time seller. MP has pics showing wads of money. Thought he could maybe be a dealer? No idea really...

Thet both look small time to me. Then again, appearances could be deceiving.

That's what a meant. Dealer...seller...whatever ya call em

He was probably selling at most an oz to his buddies.

The difference is SK was driving a small fry weed dealer around and the other woman was driving around with $250k worth of cocaine.

I hate to link to this hacks story, but check out the comment from Prodicus regarding IKs girlfriend.

Another likely coincidental link:

"The indictment also says much of the seized cocaine arrived from Las Vegas and Washington state in shipping packages. Two parcels with about 8 kilos were shipped July 18 from Las Vegas, and one was intercepted. Two more packages from Washington state with about 10 kilograms were intercepted, according to the indictment."

The choice of Vegas as a destination to fly to by IK has been noted as a peculiar way to get to Texas, so I paid more attention to this than I might have otherwise.

The bust is interesting at the very least as evidence of the willingness of some Alaskans to take huge risks for small payoffs. i.e. "She said she had made six or seven trips and got paid between $1,500 and $2,000 per trip." (from another Fairbanks Daily News article on the bust)

Not just the "FD" either -- sending $250,000 in cash with a lightly paid courier?

Did the "FD" travel to Vegas"

26 pounds of cocaine in the hands of the DEA made quite a hole in someone's budget. Someone must be accountable somewhere.

I hope it is not SK.

Christopher Aaron Anderson is from Fairbanks, 6 hours from Anchorage. It's possible I guess.

The homicide detective is the same guy we've seen with the accent.

In that big cocaine bust, I believe the drugs either came from or were going to Fairbanks. So there could possibly be a connection there.

On edit: looks like the courier drove from Fairbanks to Anchorage to pick up the drugs and was probably supposed to return to Fairbanks with the drugs: http://www.adn.com/2012/02/25/2336342/authorities-cocaine-bust-was-states.html

Right, I getcha... But it was said she's clean now. When somebody stops smoking weed they just quit smoking...it's when they're sober from blow, x, heroin, narcs that it's considered clean. If she was in fact clean, it would suggest she has a drug history. Somebody that just dabbled but didn't use anymore wouldn't be considered clean, they'd just be considered somebody that tried but doesn't do it anymore. However, somebody with a user history that doesn't use anymore could be considered clean if drug tested for a period of time with all results coming back negative. So, long story short, if Sam was such a user in her past but has been clean for over a year now (per her father) - then why in hedoubletoothpicks would she stoop to being a driver? It doesn't make sense.

It would have to be worth the risk. Driving a smalltime Mary-J seller wouldn't be worth the risk IMO.

I'm going with what TMC informed - MP took a package, or it came up missing, and it was part of a big shipment. One of those packages would have been worth $75-$100gs. If Sam is the driver, then somebody scoped her out.

What about that old lady that was found murdered right after Sam went missing? Did they catch the perp/s?

Is it possible Keyes' truck was the one that could be seen in the coffee hut surveillance video, with some guy in it who supposedly didn't notice the abduction even though he was 50 feet away?

Wow. Those ears look identical. But how do we get from bank robbery to kidnapping a young girl and maybe even murder?

No doubt in my mind that is him. Thank you clever one. I wouldn't mind betting we will learn a lot more about IK soon.

It seems he needed money very quickly and was willing to go beyond the norm to get it.
