I hate this. They really needed to get more out of him. What an awful person. I'm honestly surprised he killed himself, usually these types like to stay alive and torture LE with their undivulged secrets.

At a joint press conference by the U.S. Attorney's office, FBI and Anchorage Police Department Sunday afternoon, authorities said Keyes had confessed to the Koenig murder and admitted using a chainsaw to break through the ice at Matanuska Lake to dispose of her body.
At the press conference authorities said Keyes also admitted to killing Bill and Lorraine Currier of Vermont, who went missing in June 2011 and whose bodies have never been found. Keyes also led investigators to believe he had killed four people in Washington State and one in New York State. Keyes statements led authorities to believe his victims spanned a broad range of ages, and he'd committed the crimes over a ten-year-plus period of time. They said he expressed no remorse about his crimes, but had been cooperating with investigators, who last talked to him on Thursday.
Keyes worked alone, authorities believe, and traveled extensively using various modes of transportation.

I am stunned. I haven't been back in this thread in quite a while. I just can't believe any of this. Of all the theories we kicked around when Sam was missing I don't think serial killer ever made the rounds.
And now he's dead. Damn that makes me mad. He should have had to face whatever punishment he had coming to him.

Hoping his bank records prove helpful. How long had he been with the girl he was living with in Alaska? Hopefully she is a good source of info for LE too.

I had a feeling he was responsible for more.
I do not understand how this happens. First they allow him to
Attempt attacking someone in court and now this.
He wasn't afraid of anything..except apparently going to trial.

I hope they have more info than has been released.

"During Sunday’s press conference Anchorage Police Chief Mark Mew said Keyes, who did not know Koenig, confessed to kidnapping the teen from her job at Common Grounds Espresso stand at gunpoint on the night of February 1, 2012.
Police said Keyes then admitted he took her to a truck she shared with her boyfriend to get her ATM card, and killed her that night. Mew said Keyes then used a chainsaw to cut a hole in the ice at Matanuska Lake and disposed of Koenig’s body.
Mew said Keyes then left the state, where he began using the ATM card. It was through those transactions Anchorage Police and the FBI were able to track his movements and identify the vehicle he was driving, but they admitted they didn’t know the suspect’s name until his arrest.
Keyes was eventually pulled over in Lufkin, Texas on March 13. Police said Koenig’s ATM card and pieces of her cell phone were found in the vehicle.
Investigators didn’t say when they were able to get the confession of Koenig’s murder, but on March 30 teams were searching Keyes’ Turnagain home. They were seen taking away a shed. Investigators wouldn’t say what, if any, evidence was found inside."

Did you see he was raised Amish and left home at 17? Been said his parents forbid any of his (10) siblings to have any contact with him thereafter. We did not find any of that ...

I'm not sure if the below cases fit within the timeline. Catherine Nelson and Charles Russell, from Phoenix, Az, disappeared en route to buy a motorcycle in 2002. LE believes they were lured by an ad for the purpose of a robbery. Not sure if going to the trouble of placing an ad fits in with Keyes MO.

Normally I would think the same thing. But I think they wanted him alive. And he was segregated. Should have been on suicide watch for sure. Imo!
