I can't believe still no information about the suspect has been released, why does it seem we focus sometimes more on protecting those who pray on others. Praying for Samantha!

Sure is a strange case. Even stranger is the way LE is handling it and the statements they're making.

Almost like a we know who took her and we think she is OK, we don't think he will strike again so we will just wait and see what happens next attitude.

In other cases when LE tells the public they need not be fearful it usually means that they do not believe the perp is going to commit a similar crime against others. Which means there was a specific reason the victim in the case was targeted. Usually it ends up that the victim knew the perp through some kind of relationship or acquaintance.

Parker, the police spokesman, said Anchorage residents shouldn't be fearful that neither Koenig nor her abductor have been found.

"We don't want people to react with fear. But everybody needs to pay attention to their personal safety," Parker said. "This is not television drama. This is real life and investigations take time. We'll do it in the most professional and expeditious manner possible."

"We don't know how long this one's going to take, but our commitment is to work the investigation until such time as there's no leads left," Parker said.

The issue here isn’t women choosing risky work, the issue is a persistent threat of violence against women in our community. Alaska leads the nation in rates of sexual assault and domestic violence, the majority of it perpetrated by men against women. If we’re going to point to something that led to this abduction, based on what we know now, maybe we should point to that. We have a cultural problem. If we want to change it, we need to look at male behavior just as much as we look at female vulnerability.

It sounds pretty straightforward to me. I can't come up with any better way of saying what he said, without telling everything they know, and they rarely do that.

I respectfully disagree. IMO, the information about this case and it's presentation by police is intentionally evasive, and quite possibly all that keeps this girl from being returned to her family. Until the tape is revealed, there's no way of proving me wrong or right. Parker is paid to buy the police some time. They don't have anything. They have to keep the citizens at bay, and maintain some semblance of control and authority.

If every TV station willing to play the tape, every movie theater screen, every internet web site able, every box truck on the street carries information from that security tape showing her abduction, Samantha's likelihood of returning home would increase. Put that in front of the bookies in Vegas, and see which way the betting goes.

Tainted jury pool. Any defense attorney worth his salt will request a change of venue [move the trial due to community opinion] if a suspect ever gets nailed down to a charge in this fiasco anyway.

bdawk20 - wanted to let ya know I was sidetracked yesterday when my hubby came home early to take me to lunch. I'll look now...

Found something interesting... I don't think this has been posted yet. I'll snip sections... Note the interesting comments.

Snipped:
The detectives, who say they believe she was abducted by a lone man, are looking for information from people who were in the vicinity of 630 E. Tudor Road, where Common Grounds Espresso is located, from [/b]7 to 9 p.m.[/b] on the night of Koenig's disappearance.

Snipped:
Attorney Rex Butler said his client, Christopher Bird, has been the target of online speculation.

Bird has spoken to police but is not considered a suspect or person of interest, Butler said.

Snipped:
Samantha's father James Koenig, who has been fielding local and national media calls while organizing search efforts, said he had slept five hours in the past five days.

He's had custody of Samantha since she was small, he said.

As a child, she practiced karate and was interested in music. Samantha and her father spent time camping, fishing, four-wheeling and shooting, he said.

"She's probably a better shot than I am," Koenig said.

After attending West Anchorage High School, she transferred to the Anchorage Vocational Academic Institute of Learning, an alternative program. She did not finish, her father said.

She worked at the House of Harley Davidson and Sea Galley before getting her job at Common Grounds Espresso.

Snipped:
But Samantha was determined to take the job, which would pay for her truck and insurance.

"She's young," he said. "She wanted the tips for gas money."

Snipped:
Koenig's paternal grandmother, Shirley Koenig, says Samantha was primarily raised by her father, James Koenig, after her parents divorced.

“This is just killing my son.” Shirley Koenig said. “I just hate to think what will happen to him if anything happens to (Samantha). She’s been his whole life ever since the day she was born.”

Snipped:
The Anchorage School District said Koenig attended West and South High Schools as well as AVAIL.

CB's mom posted something very interesting on her FB page. It makes me wonder if she's being honest & forthright or catty like a Croslin, but if her statement is factual, I'd like to know if Duane & Sam were exclusive or just dating.

Samantha's bestfriend has a missing FB profile in Sam's name. I didn't like how catty the other one was becoming when asking Sam's dad James to give the exact amount of the reward - so I think I'll just stop going to that page. I'll stick with Sam's friend who has her best interest at heart. Anyway, she spelled Samantha's bf's name Duane instead of Dwayne. I guess it could be either?

*** Knox, I hear ya in my head lol. I know you saw that comment. I'm searching for the last name.

I can ... but I appreciate your POV.

Pretty heavy finger pointing going on, very strange. :waitasec:

I saw it too, but I didn't know if we were allowed to mention it ;) Interesssssting.

I know & it's uncalled for the way it was said. If it's true, and if she seriously thought it was odd, then I'm assuming she called the cops? Then again, she's screaming mad at how her sOn is being scrutinized, and he's upset that his "name is being tarnished"...BUT HE HAS PICS ON HIS PB SHOWING A BIG ROLLED FATTY! I just can't understand how he's concerned about what people think when he has a freaken BLUNT in his hands on his PB!

She said that she saw it with her own eyes, therefore it's not a rumor...unless she'd fabricate for some reason. Since it wouldn't be considered rumor, it could be posted but only paraphrased. We can't give a link bc she's not a poi. FB is touchy and I just learn as I go along. Bc of ' reputation for not spreading rumors & not throwing everyone under the bus, the social media rules get tweaked in certain cases, each time fine tuning rules as enforcement as well as allowing some things that could assist an investigation in. When the rumor thread was made in HaLeigh Cummings' case, it became a madhouse free for all, so Trisha set better dtandards on what is allowed vs what isn't. If CB's mom had said she "heard", then it would be a rumor & not allowed to post - but she "saw".

Either way it turns out, I'd like to know if Sam & Duane are exclusive or just dating.

She's deflecting. If she can point out something "odd" about what someone else is doing, then it makes her feel better. Not only the fatty LOL, but a previous breaking and entering charge (IIRC) in NC. I'd be so proud :)

Ditto. Plus another run-in with a bouncer. Wow.
