Question: Is Israel his birth name? I haven't found his record, haven't searched that hard for it, but just wondering bc his family seems to have average everyday names. His name stands out amongst family.

Could this guy be on Myspace? I can't check that one out.

Hope he's not related to the Keyes that live down the street from me. I don't live in Alaska any longer and haven't for 25 years.

Yeah, I bet you're right since it happened on Fort Lewis...

Sooo... If he was dishonorably discharged, then his recognition award from the Army is fraudulent. Padding his honors? If so, wonder why he would do that...

Just an FYI, Turnagain is actually a pretty nice neighborhood. One of the better ones in the city. I know that doesn't really mean anything but I thought some might find that interesting.

Hmm...but there is "nice Turnagain" (near the inlet) and "not-so-nice Turnagain" (aka South of Northern Lights). This home was in the not-so-nice part...but that being said, there are certainly worse parts of Anchorage!

Spurr Lane is in the area north of Northern Lights, in the nice part of Turnagain.

He goes by Carpenter Israel as well.

http://www.peekyou.com/israel_keyes

I doubt he goes by this. You guys would be shocked at how many mailings lists get sold to dataminers. One company who say, is marketing to carpenters, lists his business as such and then they sell their list and now it's his aka. Just because it lists a variation doesn't mean he actually chose to go by the variation. There is a LOT of human error in the lists that get sold and resold to databases, so read them with an open mind.

Sorry but Carpenter Israel comes back as living in Anchorage.

Check into building permits for his construction company...I assume these must be public?

Yes, I'm just saying he probably received a mailer that listed his business as such.

Edited: you are wise to search under his akas, I'm just saying he didn't necessarily choose to "go by" that name.

Yikes- sorry about that-- my phone had autocorrected to Arctic Spur Rd... You are correct. It is north of N. Lights in the nice area of Turnagain... it also looks well-maintained, from the picture.

One thing fishy about his certificate is that it appears to be undated.

Also it's not particularly well written.

And it uses somewhat obscure acronyms, which apparently is not advised: http://www.armywriter.com/army-achievement-medal-citation.htm

Of course that could just mean that it was prepared by a careless superior.

But this is interesting: this website, armywriter.com, has a list of citation examples and the very last one on the page is strikingly similar to the wording for Keyes' citation: http://www.armywriter.com/achievement-medal-citation.htm

Could that be standard wording that the army uses? Or is it possible that it was lifted from this same site?

Here are some other examples I found around the web:

This is another useful resource from the army itself: http://www.apd.army.mil/pdffiles/r600_8_22.pdf

This might sound odd, but I think the certificate is legit. The date is actually included in the paragraph, which sort of supports your careless supervisor theory.

When you click the url for the image it looks like a bent document scanned. I also really don't think he would misspell his own name (yet more evidence of carelessness and lack of attention to detail from whomever wrote it out). JMO.

You folks still totally rock! I haven't been here since the Casey Anthony's <spit> court case. Missed your cleverness!

The dates of service are in there but not the date the certificate itself was issued. That seems to me like something you would typically include, right?

Nonetheless, my suspicion is that you are right and the certificate is real.

Snipped: "It's the result of many hours of police work," Markiewicz said. "Methodical meticulous police work (by) our officers and detectives, the local FBI office and the local enforcement in Texas, screening every lead and following up."
"This wasn't the result of luck."

Read more here: http://www.adn.com/2012/03/15/23730...isappearance.html#storylink=cpy#storylink=cpy

That kills the 'random traffic stop' theory, although in Texas random stops often become news headlines for some reason.

Markiewicz is incredible at talking in circles and changing his mind on what he will say. He changes his mind more than any woman I know. lol
