It has been Websleuth's policy to change a sexual assault victim's name to initials. This is not 100% protection of the victim but darn it if we are not going to do what the heck we can to minimize her being revictimized by keeping her name out there.

Can't wait for Pelham PD to rack up the charges. This guy is colder than ICE

It's going to be awesome...plus ICE

The suspect, Rodrigo Chagolla Ortega, has been charged with rape in the second degree, which is a Class B Felony, and enticing a child, which is a Class C Felony, by the Madison County Sheriff’s Office after the girl was found safe in Huntsville following a collaborative two-day search from several law enforcement agencies, including the Pelham Police Department.

According to Cheatwood, additional charges could be coming depending on how the investigation transpires.

“It all depends on the investigation but we really don’t know what transpired in those two days between here and Huntsville,” Cheatwood said. “Interviews obviously take a lot of time to get in depth for each stop and each minute, each hour and each day of what occurred so we really don’t know right now. But we’re going to look at every angle, and if there are any charges to be brought, they will be.”

ANM’s mother, HM, told reporters, “Right now it’s a feeling I’ve never felt in my life, to know that my daughter is alive. It’s something I’ll never take for granted again.”

ANM had apparently been communicating with Ortega on the platform TikTok.

Chief Turner warned parents about the dangers of social media, saying:

“Parents, this is a warning for every one of us. We encourage parents to be mindful of what your kids are doing online and who they are talking to. These threats are real and do exist.”

We have no sanctuary cities in Alabama. For a reason.

This thread is about a child victim and I think posters were just stating the policy that once we know a minor has been assaulted by an adult, Websleuths moderators will then go back and change the victim’s name to initials once the posts have been flagged. Standard procedure around here. Nothing personal. I think Pink was just just addressing your question and helping to explain the procedure since you asked about it. :)

The Pelham Police Department said Thursday afternoon that the missing 13-year-old girl has been located and is safe. Chief Pat Cheatwood said she was found in the Huntsville area.

Pelham police said they have obtained a felony warrant for interference with custody against 24-year-old Rodrigo Ortega, who's currently being held in jail in Madison County on felony charges of enticing a child and second-degree rape.

“I’ve met young people where their home life was perfect or they have met someone and that person promised them a great future, lets go off somewhere.” -said Susan Johnson/ Shelby county family connections

“they make mistakes and because of those mistakes they are still, they need help, they need guidance, they need direction, they have families who love them.”-said Susan Johnson/ Shelby County Family Connection

“know who your kid’s friends are, know where they live, know how to get in touch with them. So, if this were to happen and you came home and your child is not home know who to call.” -said Pat Cheatwood/ Pelham Police

She has young children.. And worries about what they might do on social media.

I agree. It's sad youngins reach out to the internet and folks they don't know to try to solve their problems when they disconnect from family.

Victim's name and her mom's name have been redacted. Although the names may still appear in MSM links, it is WS policy not to identify a victim of SA.

On another note, WS does not allow alluding to prison rape, and does not condone advocating violence against anyone.

Perhaps this young lady was miserable and wanted out of current situation and found someone to take care of her. Just a thought

We’ve seen no evidence of that as far as I know.

We do know the parents were negligent in monitoring and controlling their child's access to the internet though. I hope we will see laws to this effect or at least the establishment of legal precedents in the near future.

That seems impossible though. Kids have access to the internet for everything related to school and social life. Extracurricular activities. Everything. I think we would never see laws passed that go after parents who don’t adequately monitor their kids.

Now purposefully exposing their kids to adult stuff would be different.

Is quite possible. Do you think the school's internet isn't filtered? Children should not have unrestricted, unsupervised access to the internet. That's literally a no-brainer.

You can be the best parent on the planet, faithfully monitor and control your child's access to the internet (as you should), and I 100% guarantee you, that kid is still going to find a way to access content on the net that you would not approve of. It happens literally every single day. Parents are not omnipresent, and kids do things they shouldn't. It's just the way it is. Just a general observation from a mom of 9 all raised in the tech-age.

No it’s not. The kid is 13. She going to find a way to access the internet. Throw isn’t going to punish her parents for that. That’s not reasonable and won’t happen.

What evidence do you have that she had disconnected from her family? Not trying to pick a fight, but want to know what you are referring to.

That's no reason to be negligent. Of course as children mature they're going to become more independent and gradually become adults. That's adolescence. We're not taking about managing to watch a little 🤬🤬🤬🤬 here, we're talking about a 13 year old developing a relationship completely unknown to her parent. That should not happen. I don't know if this particular case was impulsive or went on for long enough before the pickup that parents could and should have been aware of it but it's likely children's services ARE asking those questions and will keep an open case on it for some time but that's rightly not a public matter.

I've said enough on the matter. I apologize for my phrasing, we don't KNOW the girls internet safety was neglected by the parents. The case for legal parental/guardian responsibility is just one I have particularly strong feelings about and feel it could do a lot to strengthen our society.
