This is what I figure is the most likely. Shacking up with an acquaintance somewhat local. Not anyone so closely affiliated that LE would be likely to contact. I would imagine both of them could potentially know enough sketchy characters who might be willing to let them stay, potentially even do all of the errand running, especially if they could offer some cash for the inconvenience.

Camping in any sort of established campground would be too risky. Shacking up in an abandoned house runs the risk of neighbors seeing activity and knowing there shouldn't be activity. I really don't think VW would be stupid enough to try to hop the border since she would have had no way to know how long they had before their absence was noticed. Unless she had a lot of inside help, someone would eventually notice.
I agree she most likely didn’t make the move to Mexico. Though taking a gamble and crossing a border before word spread could pay big dividends. It’d be easy enough to check government alerts on a burner phone to see if a BOLO of any kind was put out.

I still think remote campground works as well as anything might…as long as he stays inside and they book under a false name though. Providing she changes her appearance. When we camp, I usually book legitimate but rural campgrounds via their online websites or state park websites. I have never had them check the inside of the camper or trailer for occupants in all my camping years. And at the campsite, especially at night, we rarely encounter anyone.

Everyone is imaging that these two made it to a border, likely Mexico. These are not sophisticated criminals. This guy is a long time criminal and she had a 25 year career as a sheriff's deputy in a Southern jail, not some high level cartel members or a deputy in a prison that housed criminal masterminds charged with RICO stuff.
Exactly!! They're not private jetting off to some island. They're probably eating canned chili, holed up in some dump motel or out in the woods. And I say "they" loosely. She will become a burden to him, if she hasn't already. IMO of course.

Two questions:

MONEY
Would not attending an exit interview really hold up her retirement money from being released? My opinion is no. Accessing that money could be an issue but what if she used an online bank?

BEACH
What beach had she mentioned retiring to? Any plans in place or at least looking at property? Of course, I realize that would be too obvious a place to hide but I am curious.

I hope these two are found before anyone else gets hurt. Thanks to anyone who has info or feedback re: my questions.

re: money

If you don’t work for the Alabama department of corrections I don’t know how anyone would know if skipping an exit interview would result in a withholding of funds. I’m sure her online banking accounts are being monitored.

They found one surveillance-camera sighting that shows that they went straight from the jail to the place that the patrol car was parked—no room in the timeline for going some place else.

They consider both Whites dangerous. Warrant out for VW’s arrest, for facilitating CW’s escape.
I’m trying to catch up. After they ditched the patrol car did they say what kind of vehicle they might be in? Or if her private vehicle is missing or accounted for?

If someone is inclined to do something like this, retirement income is probably not the first thing on her mind. It was a way to "tie up loose ends" and "do the right thing" like she has been doing forever. The fact she sold her house says volumes to me. That's $$$ in her pocket.

Pat Davis says her daughter had been staying with her for five weeks, ever since her daughter sold her home. She didn't notice anything different about Vicky leading up to her disappearance.

"I talked to her that morning. She called asking me about the dog because he had been sick," says Davis.

The last phone call she had with her daughter was a routine call about her dog.

She is legally entitled to her pension until she pleads or is found guilty to a felony involving her office. Even then, she is entitled to receive all of her contributions plus interest.

I guess that they can pretend that she didn't retire, but I guess they would still be depositing her paycheck into her accounts, which could be a joint account with her mother. And that would include a ton of OT since she disappeared while on the clock.

I would just as soon file her paperwork and start depositing the part of the pension that she is entitled to than keep her on the clock until she is found. In any case it could be moot if she borrowed a large portion from her pension recently.
Yes, that is correct. She would just get contributions and would not be entitled to her full benefit bc of her actions. Exactly.

I think a lot of government pensions are similar.:)

No word on vehicle. Said it didn’t show them transferring vehicle on available video footage so far.

I'm sorry but I just see this as someone who has done the right thing their whole life and has had some sort of "mental break". None of the retirement paperwork stuff even matters IMO. It was just a way for her to make it know she was done.

I think it would be really hard to be so mundane while planning to break a felon out of jail. As bad as it looks for VW, I wonder if this is a horrible set of coincidences. (Selling the house, retiring, etc.)

That being said, the non existent appointments are pretty damning.

Totally agree.

kinda strange her own mother didn’t know she was retiring. Imo

You could replace "mundane" with "stoic" and "calculated". IMO of course.

Exactly. If it was all on the up and up until that point, you’d think her mom would know at least this sort of thing.

True. You’d think family and coworkers would have remarked on this though. They all sound like this is out of left field for her personality wise. The mental break “I’m done” tends to fit better with this scenario. I’m very curious to see how this ends and I hope VW is still safe.

As far as I know, no officials have made any mention of her private vehicle. I tend to think that that means it’s accounted for.

If I remember rightly, in the press conference today, posted earlier in this thread, the sheriff said that they were working on ‘leads’ as to what vehicle they might be in. I think they might be checking any camera footage that exists of the parking lot where the patrol car was found—see what cars were moving through it in the general timeframe. And, checking any possibility that she bought a getaway car somewhere?

But, no idea of what sort/color of vehicle, as far as I know.

This is quite the perplexing case! Ultimately I hope VW is found safe, even if she was a willing participant in all of this. She’s going to be far safer in custody than alongside this awful man, who by all accounts is extremely homicidal. Hoping for a good outcome for VW in terms of safety, and that CW is caught and locked up again ASAP.

I wonder whether the County can actually hold up her pension because she's wanted. I mean, if she was already receiving it and then committed a crime, the pension wouldn't be revoked (IMO) until after conviction, if then.

Also, in a few (8ish) years she will be eligible for Social Security. And while I assume (I'm still a few years from that myself) that one needs to initially apply in person

Not suggesting this will last 8 years, just trying to look at it from her perspective if she was planning it out. MOO

No, I applied online through my social security account.
