Could VW's injury have been a through-and-through? And in the tipped-upside confusion, the bullet did in fact graze CW? So much so -- the zing, the noise, the blast -- he thought he'd been shot?

I wonder how the coroner can be certain that the crash itself or airbags didn't cause the weapon to fire?

Unless it did happen after the vehicle came to a full stop. Not a single word to CW from VW before firing her deadly shot?

The only thing that seems abundantly clear is the CW didn't wanr to die.

JMO
The shot happened after LE was already pointing guns at them and issuing verbal commands.

Investigator Ray:

"The Cadillac continued through the parking lot and into a grassy field to the south of the building, before coming to rest in a ditch near Burch Dr., after a collision with a US Marshal`s Service vehicle.
I exited my patrol vehicle and heard a gunshot, which I believed to come from inside the Cadillac."

Investigator Shahine:

"With my duty pistol pointed at the windshield of the vehicle, I could see a male driver attempting to stick his hands out of the driver side window. I gave multiple commands, to the occupants of the vehicle, so as to have them show me there hands. Due to the tint on the windshield and the angle of the vehicle, I could not clearly see any other occupants inside the vehicle. While giving my verbal commands, I heard one gun shot come from inside the vehicle."

Edit: Wonky format.

We probably have to factor in the fact he was sitting in that jail under an insanity defense in the first place. A defense attorney could have a field day with that in terms of Casey White not having the mental capacity to formulate a plan to escape or consent to removal from the prison. IANAL, but I might give that a shot. IMO
Agreed

Must be talking about CW’s wig covering her face? JMO

3:58. I’d like to move that off her face, can’t even tell if she’s conscious. Somebody got a long stick?

4:42. Can you hook that back?

4:48. Looks like an exit off the top of her head.

“God,” the woman says after the first noise. “Air bags are going off. Let’s get out and run.” She mentions a hotel.

I think that was about all that was said on the 911. Rest was emts officers etc . However the call happened it seems clear to me they werent wanting to talk to 911. jmo

“I understand I’ve be the subject of all kinds of memes on social media – my voice, my looks, and everything else,’’ he said. “I learned a long time ago not to let that bother me. I’ve even been called Buford T. Justice.”

Make no mistake about it though, there’s a lot more to Singleton than his southern accent and his shiny badge.

The north Alabama native is a husband, father, grandfather, and former owner of a family barbecue restaurant and an ambulance service.

He builds model trains, toils in the garden, sang in a barbershop quartet and, perhaps most surprising, spent at least a decade as professional wrestler with the National Wrestling Alliance, where he even headlined a few main events as Dr. Death. His wrestling mask and boots are proudly displayed in his office…

Singleton said he’s not totally surprised that Vicky White took her only life.

“And probably having to spend several years, if not the rest of her life in prison, because she’s worked in a jail setting for 17 years and she knows what it’s like on the inside. So given those factors, I’m not totally surprised.”

“I’m angry at her right now,’’ he said. “During all this I didn’t like her, but I still loved her. "

“Knowing Vicky White and I’m just being totally honest, I don’t think the charges against her were as much of a concern to her as her having to come back here and face her family and her friends after pulling a stunt like this,’’ he said.

I don’t know how to feel about this article. While I don’t doubt at all that he is committed to his profession, this article reads like an advertisement for Singleton to rehabilitate his public image. It’s a feel-good piece that looks at Singleton exclusively through his own eyes, rather including how he was viewed by those he interacted with over the course of his career, such as former inmates, deputies, and Florence residents. IMO it paints an overly rosy picture of Singleton and doesn’t address the nuances of his career, which isn’t spotless by any means.

From the google drive one LE reported that CW asked several times while in his custody, how VW was doing. There must have been some caring on His part contrary to what was in previous presser given by Wedding.

The incident reports all mention that the single gun shot was after the car had crashed in the ditch. I had been curious about about the timeline.

MOO, I have been unfortunate to know a few people that have died of suicide. They were control freaks (sorry) it’s true they were in charge til the very end.

Cant help but wonder if she thought he would die with her and not take the cowards way out at the end while she sit there dying? He had time. He could have taken the gun from her and shot himself or started running and shooting which would get him killed. Instead, he,s dangling his hands out the window hoping they dont shoot him.

Question if you have knowledge.

Do prisoners have to submit a list of ppl that they can call? Can they call anyone?
Not sure how that works now with phone cards and prepaid calls as I have left the field of corrections. Prior phone requests needed to be submitted In the institutions. And, it depends which institution and where it is located. However, traditionally in a detention centre, it isn’t as strict or at least it didn’t use to be.

I do not know if any of you have ever been in an automobile when an air bag deploys in front of you, but as someone who has had one go off while I was behind the wheel of the car, I will tell you, it smacks you instantly, it smacks you hard, and it completely blocks your ability to see anything in front of you. If the marshals ramming their vehicle caused the driver side front air bag to deploy, momentarily disorienting CW, that is probably what caused VW to say "stop" immediately, talking to CW, before another one seemed to go off, followed by her saying "let's get out and run". I think it was likely in those few seconds at the beginning of the 7 minute audio that the car came to a full stop in the ditch, and LE quickly descended on it, and VW shot herself. Probably a sequence of events that took no more than about a half minute. An 11-day ordeal that ended in less than a minute. JMO

Wonder if she had been putting money on his commissary? I dont know how that works and if any deposits can be done anonymously? Is it against jail policy for a staffer to do this?

Maybe, or a piece of the airbag fabric.

On listening to the audio again:

First 30 seconds: Dispatcher's & VW's voice, except at 00:28 when CW says something like 'stand up'.

The following thirty seconds is the noise of the police sirens getting nearer.

Around the 1.00 mark there is the sound of voices presumably outside the vehicle - maybe Investigator Shahine shouting commands to the occupents of the vehicle?

At 1.11 there is the sound of a click, followed one second later by the sound of a bang - in fact, it sounds like two bangs. I wonder if this was the moment that VW decided to pull the trigger?

Excellent post that expresses many legitimate questions and ruminations.

Just one thing: You are by no means the only poster here (there have been 3 or 4) who expressed a degree of surprise and disappointment on hearing VW say in the audio, “The airbags are going off; let’s get out and run”.

For me, it wasn’t surprising at all, because by then she had flagrantly broken so many rules and laws that it was par for the course. What reason would she have to suddenly respect authority with regard to the CW situation?

I agree. The time for surprise and disappointment was Friday the 29th. For me, the first turning point was hearing that he didn’t have an appointment at the courthouse that day.

There needs to be an internal investigation at the very least and possibly retraining. Sheriff wasn't the only one asleep at the wheel. She broke protocol by taking him out by herself and someone let her get away with it. If they would have spoken up immediately this would have had a different outcome. jmo

She was the assistant director. I want to know what part the director of the jail played. I’d have thought he should have weighed in on policies, and what happened in the jail. Why has he been so silent? (Well, I think I know why.)

Exactly. And whoever stood by and watched her break protocol may have been able to stop this with one phone call to him .

Graphic question please scroll by if you do not wish to view it. It is a rollover question

The way that the Cadillac is rest on its side completely, how was Casey able to stay seated without falling on top of Vicky?

I highly doubt that he was in a seat belt. Then he was able to put both hands out of the window???

He had to have been literally standing on top of Vicky, how else would he be able to do that with all of the gravity from the position of the vehicle.

In a previous thread, someone posted multiple links about prison escapes through the years -- can't remember if it was just Lauderdale County or Alabama in general. So, it seems that there are likely numerous, longstanding issues that contributed.

Hopefully some reviews and changes will be taking place. (Imo, maybe this time they actually will make changes since this has been high profile. I'm not sure the issues were previously really addressed.)

Imo.

I'd love to post a link, but I can't find it either. At one point on Find a Grave, her family members were listed, but when I went back only her ex husband Tommy is listed. So I apologize for posting that she'd been married twice. Obviously I misread something cause I sure didn't make it up! I even checked to see if the name could be related to one of the aliases she used. I'll go back and edit my post or get a mod to fix it. I really am sorry. And embarrassed.
Don't be sorry or embarrassed, we all screw up! You meant well! You may have been correct, I have no idea. MOO

@wary He is in this article finally.

Exclusive photos from a DailyMail.com tour of the long-term facility show a mobile restraint chair often used by jail employees for unruly prisoners near Casey's cell, but Director Jason Butler said he wasn’t aware that it had been used on Casey.

In one area of the hall there was a section where there were restraining shackles, leg irons, handcuffs and belly chains readily available for the correctional officers.

Director Butler then showed the path that Casey would have walked out the door to freedom accompanied by Deputy Vicky White.

He would have walked down the hallway from cell A1 past the kitchen, and into the booking room. The first and the last place a prisoner sees when they arrive or depart the jail, which is equipped with more than 30 cameras watching the move of each of the prisoners.
