Boatwright said the body was found at about 10:30 Thursday morning when the hunter tried to enter a shooting house, but found the house was locked. The hunter notified a search team that was already working in the area, searching for Pence. That search team found the body.

Boatwright said that foul play does not appear to be involved, but that the body has been sent for forensic analysis. Boatwright said the woman seems to have gone into the house to get out of the elements.​

I don’t think a lot of hunting camps/shelters are heated — they often have a wood stove or fireplace. If she arrived there exhausted and disturbed she might not have had the wherewithal to build a fire and died from cold? Only a thought. OMO.

They'll have to do an autopsy to determine it, whoever this person may be.

It's also possible that the shelter had some kind of stove or heater, and it wasn't properly vented and led to lethal carbon monoxide levels.

We have one. My husband takes a buddy heater with him on cold days so that he can stay warm while hunting.

Well, this is annoying. Headline says “Cheryl Pence Death: Missing Colorado Woman Found Deceased” but they only quote the same Sheriff statement saying they believe the body found in the shooter’s cabin is CP. I have little doubt it’s her, but to my knowledge there’s been no official confirmation as to the deceased’s identity yet.

So he expected it to be unlocked ?
Not unusual if he owned it and the structure was in a remote location where the owner didn't have issues with anyone trespassing ?

I was somewhat under the impression that this was a building of sorts ??
There are also hunting stands which can be as simply made as a platform wide enough to hold a folding chair which can be secured with nylon straps or wood to the side of a tree and must be accessed by a ladder.
Guessing this was not the type of shelter Cheryl entered ?
Possibly one she could easily access.
But then she had the presence of mind to lock it behind her ?
Thinking out loud.

Yeah we call them blinds here. Hunting blinds. Deer blinds. Ect.. definitely not warm besides some wind sheild. What were the temps I wonder?

As the fundraiser was allowed for information in this case and there is no other obituary, here is the confirmation of her deceased and celebration of life announcement:

For Cheryl, one celebration of life could never be enough. The family traveled amongst Florida, Kentucky, Missouri and Colorado to spread Cheryl’s ashes as was her wish. A formal Celebration of Life will be held at The Church of Christ at 8501 Euclid Ave, Kansas City, MO 64132 on Saturday January 29, 2022, at 4 pm, as well as one at the Valley Community Church at 4253 Mercantile St, Colorado City, CO 81019 on Saturday February 5, 2022, at 1 pm.

Michael Mcbee told police they parked in the woods , then before he knew what was going on Cheryl rushed out of the car and ran away from Michael Mcbee who is 20 years younger than Cheryl. ? I am in my late 50s. I could have caught up with Cheryl. This is strange.

I don’t think it’s fair to predict what one would’ve/could’ve done in the situation if you weren’t there. She obviously entered the woods by choice and wasn’t restrained there. She sought shelter in hunting blind and succumbed to the elements. It’s a sad situation.
