AL AL - Kahleb Rowan Collins, 1, his dad & sis were killed in a car crash, he wasn't with them, Fayette County, 8 Dec 2024

We know dad announced on FB that Kahleb was around 7 weeks from birth on February 15, 2023. So if that is correct then he should have been born around early April 2023. If he still wasn't crawling or walking around September 2024 then he was definitely a bit behind if still not walking. Hard to know without further information if that delay was due to a medical issue or if there was some other cause, like a failure to thrive based on environment or lack of stimulation.

I suspect there may be some homelife component. I almost wonder if there was some sort of drug issue in the home. Dad seems to be in and out of work and at least one post was him expressing ire over having been fired. Also we don't know if grandfather lived with them or it was the other way around and they fell on hard times and landed at grandpa's.

He said his son's organs were growing, but not his body. Different than "organs outside the body."
Proteus syndrome is a rare condition characterized by overgrowth of the bones, skin, and other tissues. Organs and tissues affected by the disease grow out of proportion to the rest of the body. The overgrowth is usually asymmetric, which means it affects the right and left sides of the body differently.

There are photos if you google the disease, but I won’t post them here, this is horrible.
I really wonder if little Kahleb has that, seen the photos.

Deputies could be seen stretching crime scene tape around the area just before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday.

Some people were also seen on the property with shovels in hand.

I read the article when it was posted yesterday but didn't bother watching the video. Just now watched it and immediately came back here to see if anyone else caught/heard the portion of the newscast that you pointed out.

At the 0:42 mark the reporter says:
"Neighbors say Kahleb was in poor condition the last time he was seen; unable to walk or crawl properly."
ABC News Video

It isnt specified what (if any) condition Kahleb was diagnosed with, if there was any validity to the dad's Facebook post in November about Kahleb not being well or if he had never been able to walk or crawl properly or if his inability to walk/crawl properly was a recent change that neighbors noticed.

I wish the reporter had been more detailed about what the neighbors said or probed more. I'm almost leaning towards this child having no formal diagnosis of anything, because no such problems existed, and the lack of crawling/walking was perhaps a recent issue & the result of abuse? Perhaps the Sept 4 date came from neighbors (not the Grandfather as I had originally thought?) and the "poor condition" was only observed then, not before? Or maybe I just have tunnel vision n this case but I find it interesting that when initially reporting this 1 year old as being missing, there was never mention by LE of a formal diagnosis or a need for medication like we sometimes see in other missing persons cases.

Dad's FB post about Kahleb's condition was posted November 6, over 2 months AFTER Kahleb was reportedly last seen. (September 4)

"Our son is not doing well. He is not growing and has major back issues. His organs are growing but not his body. He has to have surgery at some point. Keep him in your prayers. Been rough and just seems going to be a long rough tough road ahead of us"

Dad's FB Post
The dad must have gotten that part about his organs growing but not his body, from a doctor though, right? How else would the dad know that? I don't think that's something he would have come up with himself. Unless he or another family member is a medical professional of some kind perhaps, which I have not heard is the case.

But is this something a baby would be sent home with after being diagnosed? Sounds like he would have to stay in the hospital, but maybe not until later after the disease progresses to some point. Maybe he had gotten to that point where the disease had made it impossible to continue caring for him at home, and that was when (and why) he died (if they didn't take him in.) Or who knows, maybe it's just as the dad told people, and Kahleb is being cared for by a friend or relative, who will step up any moment.

until I hear that Kahleb's medical records reflect some sort of actual medical issue, I am not believing dad's post of November 2024. Recall that post was made two full months AFTER Kahleb had already disappeared. And I will eat a ghost pepper if that child turns up alive in the care of someone else. It didn't happen JMO

I believe this might be what Joseph Merrick (the elephant man) suffered with.

Yes, you're right.

from:

"At last, in 1986, Canadian geneticists Tibbles and Cohen demonstrated that Merrick {AKA the Elephant Man} was actually afflicted with Proteus syndrome [7]... Proteus syndrome is a very rare condition, with a prevalence lower than 1 in 1,000,000."

Court records indicate the Alabama Department of Human Resources was involved with the family, but the extent of their involvement is unclear.
Fatal crash investigation unveils disappearance of 1-year-old missing since September

and there we have it, the anticipated (at least by me) CPS involvement with the family.

Law enforcement officers searched the property at family’s Winfield home Wednesday night and returned Thursday with police dogs.

2 questions:

1.Has anyone done any sleuthing on the grandfather? Any previous arrests or anything of note? Has it ever been stated how he came to be Kahleb's guardian?

2. Has anyone seen more than 2 photos of Kahleb? After a fair amount of digging, I've only seen the one being circulated on MSM (where he appears to still be a baby) and one other, from June (6+ months ago)

I agree. I think it's far more likely in this situation that this poor child could not walk or crawl properly because of injuries from abuse and improper healing/mending of bones from prior abuse. I think if he had a serious medical condition, the parents would be milking donations on social media right and left.

if he was diagnosed with anything then im sure LE would be able to find that out fairly easily

I am just guessing here - so IMO only. When they say he is a guardian, I am not sure that means that the parents were not also guardians. I think he is listed as a guardian because he is an adult living in the home with the child and would help take care of the child. I haven't seen anything anywhere that indicates that the parents lost custody of the child.
