Why is a bounty hunger involved?

If I had to guess, I would say that he *may* have been keeping his eyes and ears open, saw something and reported it to LE. Those guys often know a lot of people and what is going on in certain areas. Obviously, it was mistaken identity. Nothing more than that based on what we know, which isn't much.

I really hope the police chief is planning on doing a press conference later to clear this up... He is the one who people are used to seeing and getting real information from - he would be most trusted at this point.

And I'd really like some explanation on if the POIs are just not talking or if they are still even POIs or if the only reason they are POIs is because of the car. I feel like the POIs are the only chance at this point at getting information. It seems like LE has nothing.

If this were Chicago in the '20s, I wonder what would be done to get the "people of interest" in Kamille McKinney's case to talk. Photos at store, SUV found, charged with child /abducting (her ) kids from DHR. They know something don't you think? It's a LITTLE GIRL. A CHILD.

Yeah, if we think this is disappointing, just imagine what her family is feeling.

This happened in the Jayme Closs case, when false reports began circulating that she had been found alive.

Amazingly, she was found alive later that same day. Let’s just hope lightning strikes twice.

Great post! Would LOVE lightning to strike twice... Here is to positive thinking, even though it's hard sometimes.

I am not sure there is a connection. Their car matched description given, that is why they were questioned. The charges on both have nothing to do with Kamille. Child was found on his cell. her charges are parole violation. I think they are still looking for a connection.

What a Blooming mess. It keeps getting bigger with more twist and turns than a maze. I don't know who jumped the gun, (police or media) but it is so heartbreaking to get the families hopes up only to dash them. Please pray for this family.

The Latest: Police find no sign of abducted Alabama girl
A police spokesman, Sgt. Johnny Williams, says officers were acting on a tip. But he says police searched every apartment and vehicle in the complex and didn't find the child who relatives called "Cupcake."

Sergeant said nothing of any relevance to the investigation was found.

CBS 42 said a bounty hunter called in the tip.

You misunderstood what I said. When the police presence showed up, I'm pretty sure most residents had come out to see what was going on and the little girl seen hadn't been hidden from view or knowledge for 4 hours. I mean, if I was the mother of a young child living there, knowing who they were looking for, I'd be standing at my door immediately saying, "My child looks similar, but it's not her."

I seriously doubt someone was just minding their own business, oblivious to this whole search, staying put in their apartment.

I think they were likely pretty careful to verify it was not her...

Isn't he only 11 though? My point earlier is that a reporter should not take the word of an 11 year old. Clearly a confusing situation for all these professional adults on the scene, much less a kid. Media has procedure to follow for confirmation and IMO they didn't seem to follow it.

Is it possible that the child’s whereabouts are known but the child is unsafe and they are squashing all rumors to not jeopardize the safety of Cupcake? My personal speculations only. I don’t know why else a bounty hunter is involved and family members said she was found safe. I am a realist and rarely optimistic about cases like this but I think the child will be found alive. IMO #prayingforCupcake

Massive apartment search following tip in Kamille McKinney disappearance ends with no sign of abducted girl
Birmingham police West Precinct officers first responded to an apartment complex in the 2700 block of Jefferson Avenue shortly before 9:30 a.m. Police and family members of Kamille said they received a couple of possible addresses where Kamille might be and this area is one of them.

As of about 11:45 a.m., police said they would likely do a unit-by-unit search at the complex.

Officers cleared each apartment to conduct a thorough search, during which time residents had to step outside. One of the residents was holding a small child, which led a crowd of more than 100 onlookers to erupt in cheers believing the girl was Kamille. Some media outlets reacted by announcing that Kamille had been found but she had not. Police said they searched every apartment unit and nearby vehicle.

Family members remained on the scene at the conclusion of the search to hand out flyer’s bearing Kamille’s photo.
