GUILTY AL - Savannah Hardin, 9, forced to run til she died, Etowah Co., 17 Feb 2012

Maybe her home is filthy?

Morning everyone! Checking in to see how things are going this morning. I am also curious about Savannah's dad and if he supports JG. Thanks for the link about the lawsuit, Queenie. There are several versions to JG's story so I wonder if Gadsden Regional even had accurate information from JG in order to treat Savannah properly. The more I learn about this woman, the madder it makes me and the sicker I feel. Poor little Savannah didn't stand a chance with this bully!

Was JG just visiting the Hardin home that day? I'm confused about this and also every news article gives a different location...it's been so long since i've been up that way that I can't recall all the names of the small communities/towns.

Gotta go tend my 'hive' during the lunch break.

Trial on lunch break. Not much progress made. There were several bench conferences with jury excused.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 16m16 minutes ago

First delay had to do with admitting medical records from Gadsden Regional Medical Center and Children's of Alabama in Birmingham.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 19m19 minutes ago

The defense did not object. However, the next witness was a scribe from GRMC.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 18m18 minutes ago

Scribe takes down doctor's observations and patient questions and keys them into a computer.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 18m18 minutes ago

This particular scribe told the jury she had only been on the job since the previous December.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 17m17 minutes ago

At the point, defense wanted a conference. After a few minutes, judge called a break for the jury. Conference continued.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 17m17 minutes ago

Then, after about 10 minutes of discussion, defense attorney Dani Bone became very animated.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 16m16 minutes ago

He stalked away from the bench and other lawyers. Judge Ogletree said, "you're exception is noted." Bone then moved for a mistrial.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 16m16 minutes ago

"Defense was not provided this alleged mistake," Bone said, loudly. He also mentioned "potentially exculpatory evidence."

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 15m15 minutes ago

Ogletree denied the motion. Repeated himself, "that is it. Let's move forward."

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 14m14 minutes ago

Ogletree also noted Bone's exception, saying, "let's move forward. Deep breaths."

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 14m14 minutes ago

Court reconvened with the jury. A few more questions with the scribe, and defense objected.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 12m12 minutes ago

Objections apparently have to do with what the scribe saw. From what little questions asked, it seemed scribe was saying Savannah not alert.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 13m13 minutes ago

Defense objected that scribe was not a doctor. What was all this about? Difficult to tell with gag order.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 12m12 minutes ago

Think it might be that scribe noted Savannah as "alert," but was going to testify that the record was a mistake. Defense objected, because..

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 11m11 minutes ago

...record upsets states testimony that she was unresponsive. At this point, DA Harp said witness would step down, reserved for later time.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 10m10 minutes ago

Ogletree then excused everyone for lunch, as mood was tense. Jokes that jury can remember his instructions on their sleep.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 10m10 minutes ago

He then thanked them for their patience again.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 9m9 minutes ago

Keep in mind - I'm guessing this is what the mistrial motion dealt with. It's possible defense is arguing they never got the scribe notes.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 8m8 minutes ago

Anyway, that's it until 1 pm.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 7m7 minutes ago

One last note - I'm not a scribe, so I'm sure there's probably more to the job than I just described. That description is based just on...

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 7m7 minutes ago

...what little testimony got in.

Savannah Hardin’s father files malpractice suit against hospital

Robert Lee Hardin, the father of Savannah Hardin, has filed a medical malpractice lawsuit against Gadsden Regional Medical Center alleging the hospital’s treatment of the child contributed to her death.

i have no words

As WM pointed out, the hospital can only go on what they're told. I hope this gets dismissed or he loses and has to pay the hospitals costs. It couldn't be that his mother killed Savannah.

Am I the only one that thinks it's weird that she didn't invite the investigator inside her house after he was cold? Why go to the car?

Nope. That was my first thought too.

Jurors saw autopsy photos of Savannah Hardin and heard testimony from the pathologist who performed her autopsy.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 5m5 minutes ago

But before that, lawyers sparred for an hour over several issues, including the pathologists testimony.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 4m4 minutes ago

Before the jury was seated, Judge Ogletree swore in Dr. Emily Ward and allowed defense attorney Sam Bone to question her.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 4m4 minutes ago

He asked if she had ever been disciplined by the dept. of forensic sciences. She answered no.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 4m4 minutes ago

She later testified she was retired on disability.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 3m3 minutes ago

In front of the jury, she said she performed about 5,000 autopsies for the state during her career.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 3m3 minutes ago

She testified that Savannah Hardin died of seizures and brain swelling caused by dehydration and not enough sodium in her system.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 2m2 minutes ago

The jury also saw photos of Savannah's arm with contusions she said were consistent with the end of a piece of firewood.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 2m2 minutes ago

Ward said Savannah had two seizures - one at the home, one later at the hospital.

WilliamThornton @billineastala · 2m2 minutes ago

Defense about to cross examine.

Hi Steely! Hope your are feeling better these days and so glad to see you back. You've been missed around here my friend!

It will be interesting to see how the civil suit plays out. If JG is found guilty of murdering Savannah, I don't know how the hospital can be held liable for her death, especially if incorrect information was given. However, from a personal perspective, I've spent alot of time in the two hospitals in Etowah county the past couple of years and feel my loved ones received more compassionate care at the other hospital. And I birthed babies at both hospitals long ago and preferred the other hospital way back then. GRMC is crowded and twice didn't have a room available and I found the ER very slow. No offense to the health care workers there, as I have friends who work there and they do the best they can in a very busy environment. So MOO! :D

OT I'm feeling sad today folks. My great aunt and legal guardian from the time I was in my early teens passed away yesterday. What a wonderful woman she was and she lived a full long life! Not even my blood aunt but the wife of my great uncle who was deceased by the time she took me in. She loved kids and looking back, I believe was quite amused by children. She said kids kept her young and she always stayed young at heart! So to honor Eth's and Savannah's memory , I'd like to invite you all to join me in a moment of celebration of two lives who have touched others, Auntie Eth and Savannah Hardin. It warms my heart to think that my beautiful and kind and funny Auntie Eth is probably showering sweet little Savannah with love and hugs and laughs in heaven! Thanks for reading. :)

Justice for Savannah!
