Alec Baldwin fired prop gun, killing 1 on movie set, Oct 2021 #3

Random stuff:

The device that allows the cylinder to swing out on modern revolvers is called a crane. The revolver used in the shooting weighs about 40 oz unloaded. The Paietta (sp?) does allow the cylinder to turn by hand as described.
It is also very cheap by today's prices at $400 or so. A similar Ruger would set you back $1,000. If AB was running a non-union shop
then the craft union rules mean nothing. SAG, however, is another matter.
Most wannabe film makers will work for free to get their name on the credits of even the worst movie. I would think that the ammo on the set would warrant the same security as the firearms themselves. Band of Brothers must have been a nightmare for the Armorer.

Affidavit is in this article:
‘Rust’: Released Affidavit Reveals Details About Fatal Shooting – Read It – Deadline

Read the full affidavit, submitted Friday and now made public, below.

The detective’s affidavit also notes that the film’s assistant director, Dave Halls, “did not know live rounds were in the prop gun when he had given to the prop gun to the Actor Alec Baldwin.” Cano used the word “rounds” – plural – but it remains unclear from the affidavit whether there were any unfired rounds remaining in the gun.

Cano wrote that “During the filming of the movie, the Assistant Director (Dave Halls) grabbed one of three ‘prop-guns’ that was set-up by the Armorer (Hannah Gutierrez), which was on a cart. The cart is a gray in color rolling table with two layers and was left outside of the structure due to Covid-19 restrictions.”

The detective also noted that he “learned one of the prop-guns was then grabbed by the assistant director (Dave Halls) and he took it to the actor identified as Alec Baldwin who was inside of the structure. As the assistant director (Dave Halls) handed the gun to the actor Alec Baldwin, (Dave Halls) yelled, ‘Cold Gun,’ indicating the prop-gun did not have any live rounds.”

Not sure. Hall's attorney introduced 2 more people to the event. If you ask me he needs to fire her immediately. Her interview was a hot mess.

I couldn’t watch the video in the Fox article you posted. Even when I unblocked for ad content, the video would not run for me.

Halls claimed he got gun from HGR.
"He said that the film’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez-Reed, had opened the gun for him to inspect, according to the affidavit."
'Rust' Assistant Director Said He Didn't Thoroughly Check Gun - The New York Times (nytimes.com)

Halls' lawyer reasoning. Hmm... Isn't assistant director is charge of safety on the set?

"What I can tell you is that expecting an assistant director to check a firearm is like telling the assistant director to check the camera angle or telling the assistant director to check sound or lighting," Torraco said. "That’s not the assistant director’s job. If he chooses to check the firearm because he wants to make sure that everyone is safe, he can do that.""

This article is yikes!

And if AD wants to make sure everybody is safe, it would make sense to actually check the firearm. The way he described the check, he saw three rounds, didn't see the rest (or at least doesn't recall if he saw the rest). He doesn't say what kind of rounds he even saw-did he check they were dummies? Seems unlikely.

Clear as mud.

From your link:

"This idea my client grabbed the gun and handed it to Baldwin absolutely did not happen," she said, but later backtracked and dodged questions about whether Halls handed the gun to Baldwin, despite McCallum asking whether Halls "doesn't know if he handed the gun to Alec Baldwin."

(...)

When pressed further, the attorney said she has spoken to some crew members who remember Gutierrez-Reed handing the weapon to Baldwin while others recall seeing Halls pass it to the actor directly after being passed the weapon by Gutierrez-Reed himself.

Lawyer for 'Rust' assistant director refuses to answer if he handed gun to Alec Baldwin
Well, this is just getting ridiculous.

Incredible that there's no film of this, either. (Not that I don't believe it, but what a stinker that there isn't.)

Disagree. If the scene called for Alec Baldwin to point the gun at his head and pull the trigger do you really think he would have done it without checking it himself?
Well, someone has died that way on a film set before.

Now I expect it to be a lot of He said-She said.

Despite AD incriminating himself if there is no specific contractual agreement detailing that the Rust AD was supposed to make the final call on the firearms how can he be held responsible? Whereas her hired position is self explanatory-the armorer who is over all firearms. She’s the expert, why does an AD need to sign off on it?

This is going to be a very interesting investigation. I want to know where the live ammo was found and why she wasn’t on the set when the gun was on the set. From what I’ve read it doesn’t matter if its a rehearsal, the armorer is to be wherever the gun is.

Maybe she did that somewhat earlier, but he ultimately picked it up off the cart later. Would that make these two accounts both make sense/be truthful?
Or the other way around. Maybe he grabbed if from the cart earlier but got it from her after lunch break? Appears witnesses are also not sure as to when and what happened.

She is supposed to be an expert. But I doubt she is actually one. She is very green-I am assuming she got hired because her father is experienced armorer. But that doesn't make her one. It sounds like it wasn't that hard to figure that out. Maybe that's why they put AD in charge of checking her handywork? My understanding AD is ultimately responsible for safety on the set. He is supposed to call safety meetings and so on.
