#LatestNews - Officers are issuing further images as they continue to search for a missing teenager in the Dorchester area.

Alex Bendall, who is known to some as Alice and is 18 years old, was reported missing at around 3pm on Sunday 12 February 2023. Following CCTV enquiries, the last known sighting has been confirmed as being at 7.41pm on Saturday 11 February 2023 in Cornwall Road, Dorchester.

Alex is described as five feet six inches tall, of slim build, with short brown hair and they were last seen wearing a green Puffa-style body warmer, a black hooded jumper, dark coloured jeans, Dr. Marten boots with a green lace in one boot and purple lace in the other, a bracelet over the cuff on the right arm and carrying a small backpack.

Chief Inspector Danny Thompson, of Dorset Police, said: “We are now approaching two weeks since Alex was last seen, and we are continuing to do everything we can in an effort to locate them. I would ask Alex again, if you see this appeal to please let us or your family know that you are all right. We are all very worried for you and want to make sure you are safe and well.

“To mark two weeks since the last sighting, there will be an increased visible policing presence at key locations in the Dorchester and Charminster areas on Saturday 25 February 2023. We will be asking people to think back to where they were two weeks ago and whether they can recall anything that might assist our enquiries and officers can be approached by anyone with information.

“We are also issuing images of two distinctive drinks bottles that Alex is believed to have purchased shortly before they went missing. I would urge anyone who has come across discarded bottles of this kind in the Dorchester area to please contact us as they may help give an indication of Alex’s last known movements.

“I would also like to repeat our plea for anyone with home CCTV or doorbell cameras, or motorists who were in the town centre on Saturday 11 February 2023 and have dashcam footage, to please check their footage for anything that might assist our enquiries.”

Anyone with information or knowledge as to Alex’s whereabouts is asked to contact Dorset Police at www.dorset.police.uk/contact or by calling 101, quoting incident number 12:319.

This really hits home for me. I used to live in Dorchester. It looks like Alex was last seen at the Tesco (supermarket) on a Saturday evening. The Tesco is walking distance to the town centre and also one of the few things open in the evening, but it’s not super close to major public transport options.

There are buses to Weymouth near there (about 15 minutes away, a seaside town). The main train station is about a 15 minute walk from Tesco. From here, you can get a train to Exeter/further into Cornwall/also Bristol or Cardiff/other places further on, or in the other direction to Bournemouth, Southampton, Brighton, London and further afield. There are also buses from the station that go long distance in the UK.

Do we know if Alex had any connections to other places? Has CCTV at the station been checked?

Just wishing them the best and hope they are found safe soon.

#LatestNews - A body sadly found in a river in Dorchester is believed to be that of a missing teenager from the Dorchester area.

The report of the discovery at the river Frome in the area of Lubbecke Way was received by Dorset Police at around 3pm on Saturday 22 April 2023.

Although formal identification has not yet taken place, it is believed to be 18-year-old Alex Bendall, who was reported missing on Sunday 12 February 2023.

The death is not being treated as suspicious and HM Coroner has been notified.

The family of Alex has been informed of the development and officers are giving support. The family requests privacy at this time.

I’m so sorry to hear this. I was really hoping that Alex was out there just taking some time to figure things out before coming home.

I hope LE are investigating what may have happened. Maybe it’s obvious from information that we aren’t privy to, but I used to live in Dorchester very close to there. The River Frome in that area really isn’t the sort of river you would easily drown in, relatively slow moving, and generally not very deep, though I don’t know about that specific area. We know, of course, from Nicola Bulley that that doesn’t always mean anything though, I guess. There aren’t really any high bridges (only one downstream, at the A35, but more of an elevated road than a bridge). There are weirs upriver and maybe Alex tried to cross one for some reason and slipped. Just seems an odd place for someone to be found in the water by accident (or even due to harming themselves).

Unless Alex went for a cold water swim and got into trouble somehow. Really sorry though to hear this news. I’ve been thinking about Alex a lot lately and checking for updates this week.
