A Field-Searcher's Narrative on His Experience Looking For Kyron

On this particular search, where we were to end at a creek, I was hoping that the helicopter above us was going to drop us a “jungle penetrater” and lift us out, but no such luck. At that point in our search, I was more concerned with each and every one of us getting ourselves back out of this area, for it was more of a survival of the fittest in staying alive, rather than a search. Ted or someone even said, that a rabbit couldn’t have even made it down into the area where we were

A very interesting read.

Meanwhile, searchers continued combing the area around Kyron's school - from the air and on the ground - for any sign of the missing boy. "When they search through areas they’re looking for any kind of debris or clothing, or shoes, or shoeprints – something that would indicate that somebody’s been through there recently," said Mike Fulk a volunteer with Mountain Wave Search and Rescue.

Maybe just maybe they are hoping that the individual responsible for the crime will re visit the scene of the crime, and lead them to Kyron.I am sure we have all heard about this happening. If anyone wants me to find a link - I will :)

Kyron's Search From JoCoSAR's Command Perspective (5 Days)

Again, today ended at about 7 pm, but still with no clues or signs of little Kyron. The media had gone wild! At morning briefings, we were all warned that if it was determined that anyone spoke to the media without approval, their teams would be sent home and not asked back. We took them seriously; hence the reason for no updates while we were gone!

Today at the morning briefing, Kyron’s dad came to speak to us. This was extremely emotional and I think that if anyone had a dry eye, it was because they weren’t there or couldn’t hear what he was saying. He was so grateful for our efforts and thanked us over and over, “Kyron thanks you.” It is never easy to listen to a father plead for us to find his child.

Early Statistics on search for Kyron, A profiler's thoughts, and what next

Here are some statistics on the search and investigation thus far:

From June 5 to Saturday, June 12, there were a total of 1,300 searchers in the field -- possibly the largest search operation of its kind in the State of Oregon.

Additionally, 213 separate investigators from 42 different law-enforcement agencies in Oregon, Washington, and Northern California.

The public donated over 20 pallets of food and refreshments to the search for Kyron.
Regional search-and-rescue organizations were sent home with "as much food as they can carry," for use in the busy upcoming search and rescue season. The remainder will be donated to the Portland Rescue Mission.

Kyron Horman investigators ask for more tips as dive team searches water near Sauvie Island

hours after a press conference where officials reiterated the scaled-back operation, a dive team searched parts of the Columbia River near Sauvie Island -- where search and rescue units had been seen since Friday. Officials from the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office confirmed the team was part of the search for Kyron.

Today was the first day authorities allowed reporters access to the base, though they barred any questions about logistics of the search or the ongoing investigation into Kyron's June 4 disappearance from Skyline School. Linn County Deputy Joe Larsen, who has worked on search and rescue missions across Oregon for 15 years, said Kyron's search had been one of the most organized and well-resourced operations he's been on

too bad they can't take the dogs from house to house... I would bet the farm he is found in a house/on a residential property (basement, shed) within walking distance from the school.

Search-and-rescue resources also expanded to include SearchOne Canine, Mountain Rescue, Yamhill County Canine, Washington County Sherriff’s Office, Yamhill County Sherriff’s Office, Pacific NW Search and Rescue and a National Guard helicopter joined members of the Multnomah County Search and Rescue team.

Searchers spent most of the night going over 20 miles of road and two square miles of area around the school in Northwest Portland. Portland Police Bureau’s air unit also was used in the search.

OK-I have been checking out Sauvie Island and two thoughts occurred to me-one is that there are a number if bicyclist warnings regarding 1.5 miles of "dike road" that has steep drop off's on either side. The other is that there seems to be a few "pick your own" type farms there-I wonder how busy they are on a Friday morning? If someone chose to take him to Sauvie Island, I have read that you buy a ticket or there are parking permits, so one would think that LE already knows if the family has a parking permit. I wonder what the process is for getting a ticket for 7.00 for a day-do they record your license number of your car??

I haven't been out on SI for a few years, but I don't know of any requirement/need to have a ticket or for a parking permit just to be out there. People live out there, there are public spaces out there. Even going to the farms for produce, we never had to pay to park or pay for access or have any kind of permit.

There are public parks in Oregon where you have to have a permit to access and - I believe - that some charge for parking. Could this be what you read about?

I bought a parking permit when I was there yesterday. You pay for it at this little store that's right next to the bridge that takes you onto the island (I think there are other places to buy them too). They didn't take my license number or anything, just date-stamped a pre-made card and gave it to me.

Also, you don't have to buy a permit. I haven't been to the u-pick farms in a long time, but I don't think you need the permit to park at them (independent farmers). The permits are more for hiking trail parking, things like that. I'm not sure how often they check the parked cars, but I would imagine that if you were just there quickly - especially if you didn't leave your car somewhere conspicuous, no one would even notice.

The day Kyron disappeared was cool and rainy. I'm sure some berry-pickers were there, but it's unlikely it was a very busy day for it. There are also lots of desolate parts of the island you wouldn't even be close to if you were berry picking.

They needed those dogs out on Sauvie Island days and days ago if you ask me...about five units - positioned at various points on the island - but from a friend on the island no sightings of dogs ever out there...only police on horses...

Four members of our K9 Unit have been up in Portland assisting in the search for Kyron since last Thursday. It's nice to have such depth to our unit with several certified K9's, in a variety of disciplines, to answer the call when it comes in

He could be. I just think with the terrain they have been searching if someone in the family did this there would be scratches on them. The other alternative is water.

I completely agree.

The SAR efforts in Kyron's case have not only been enormous, but impressive in their attention to detail, coordination, and handling.
It seems to me that there are many possibilities as to why Kyron has not been found yet....but one of them is NOT for a lack of properly and expediously used SAR resources.

Good job, MCSD and all responding SAR teams. My heart hurts for you because you have been doing everything right, and Kyron is still not where he belongs.
