That link on KOIN is showing a radar screen..

We have a Sonar on our boat.. The images in the links above are a side view sonar, but we have the conventional kind, it still bounces off bottom structures (or fish etc) or any solid object below.

The DBF is explaining it to me and I'm too tired to type =)
But I just call it the fish finder because we see the little fishies on it when we go fishing and at times I've seen large objects on it, but we have no clue what they are..
(and we have been out there for the fish)

JMO but there is always going to be something that the sonar will pick up, and if they have a good one, they will know the difference and I would assume do a dive if they felt they found something..

Sorry I'm not feeling well but I also saw them diving in a slough (with that green stuff on the top of the water) on the KOIN video, which had to have been stagnant water..

I guess I'm just trying to say it appears they were in all different areas of water this weekend and IMO if they had found anything they would have been focusing in on a specific area which it appears they were not as of 3pm today when we were there.

Most importantly, we just want Kyron found and closure for his family =)

We just looked at Chili Fries links.. awesome, that is exactly what the DBF was trying to explain to me =) Sorry I didn't look at those before posting =)

Here's the link to the video about the divers and sonar from KOIN:

http://www.koinlocal6.com/content/[email protected]&navCatId=156

Spokesperson Mary Lindstrand for the Multnomah County Sheriff's Dept:

"This is not a training exercise. This is part of the mission to bring Kyron home."

Let me quote the reporter:

"Divers collected some items but so far they aren't saying if there's a link to the little boy."

Also, the reporter said that tomorrow morning Kaine will be doing some interviews.

Just a reminder that all along, searchers have been finding items (since the first searches) I have heard many on the scanner, but I have never disclosed because they have to report every item found and some are clearly not even related to Kyron.. =)

I think you are right, if they had made a significant find, you would think all or most of the divers would have gone to that one spot, and media surely would have picked up on that. :(
thanks...

Yes, the only other thing I can think of is if they take something back and examine it further as they GPS items found on ground searches.. not sure how it works in the water..

I was just clarifying that the reporter actually said that on TV. None of us have any way of knowing if what they find out there is significant or not, since they aren't talking about what they find.

Obviously if they had found a body it would be a completely different scene, as it was in the search for Zahra the other day when remains were discovered. But that doesn't mean that other evidence is irrelevant.

Exactly.ITA with what you are saying.. =)

It does get frustrating at times to hear the local media, I know they do try to make good accurate reports but with such a big story, they also want the "attention grabber" reports..

First I have to give a big hug to ThoughtFox ;} It's good to see you as always.

I just re-watched the 11pm KOIN News. Thye cut the spot down to about 30 secs, didn't show the diagram of the boat with sonar for instance. This is pretty close to what the reporter said after he gave the locations of the waterways searched today:

"Sonar was used today. They collected some items but are not saying if they are clues."

That was it. Interesting what he said IMO as well as frustrating, eh Free?

BBM:
FWIW, I agree.

Let's keep working on closure for those who love Kyron.

"You're looking at maybe one-foot of visibility at the most, so it's diving by braille" says Deputy Doug Olsen with the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

"Basically, we're just taking the sonar images off the bottom. We can adjust it for different widths depending on where we are," says Multnomah County Deputy Brett Lort.

"We're just looking for images that are going to be outside of the ordinary. Things that aren't large logs and trees. Then we mark those spots and have the divers try to find those spots later," Lort says.

Investigators have not said what, if anything, they have found during this weekend's search. All do agree, however, they will help out again whenever they are needed.

"I couldn't imagine what the family's going through and just to be able to think about my children missing for that long...I want to bring closure," says Olsen.

http://www.kptv.com/news/25790396/detail.html

That is one of the most.... straight forward interviews I've seen. Doesn't really leave much to the imagination about what they are really looking for... and it's not his glasses.

I really wonder how Kaine and Desiree feel about these searches? Feeling so strongly that Kyron is alive, do they feel this is a waste of time, or a necessary task to prove where he is NOT?

Maybe we will have some idea from Kaine tomorrow...

Thanks, scandi! :blowkiss: It's like a flashback to the old sonar discussion surrounding Laci Peterson, isn't it? Although in some ways those were the most uncomfortable and saddest discussions we've ever had. The sonar did find Laci at one time, as I recall, but the tides and current shifted her before she could be retrieved and eventually she washed up on shore months later. Still, I'm a believer in sonar because of that case - it was a key element in the search.

Good Morning, I'd have to go back and check the dates but think it was about a month after the body was spotted with sonar that she washed up. Such history in Sleuthing, where the footage the Sonar Captain gave to On The Record had a clip of her body that he didn't realize was included.

The first thought I had waking up this morning was yesterday was the first time there was notification in a LINK that one of the basic reasons they have concentrated their searches on SI is that Kaine's white truck was reported to have been seen on SI. I suppose that means seen in a timely way where it would mean something to Kyron's case.

Until this point it has always been a rumor, spawned by comments from posters that live on SI and post in online articles. The wild driving of two cars, one a white truck that ended up going off the road into a ditch.

I think this is really kind of a momentus change for Sleuthers in the case, when rumors start to become facts.

I don't have time right now to go find that link but it was in a comment from LE as to what has prompted all these new water searches on SI.

ETA: I have to leave earlier than I expected today but I'll find and post that link tonight. xox

OT, but did MSM say the truck was spotted that day on SI, or that LE had reports of it? Still not sure if it is being considered a fact, or a rumor?

Not that I ever read Cluciano. All I've ever read about SI is the cell phone pings, which IIRC, was in a WW article and was described as being provided by multiple LE sources who were familiar with the case, but not directly working on the case.

Not sure if this statement from KOIN is "solid reporting" or repetition of rumors, but is *is* from an MSM article written this last weekend:

"Several Sauvie Island residents thought they saw a truck similar to the one Terri drives in their neighborhood the day that Kyron disappeared. That fact, some cell phone records, and other evidence prompted sheriff's deputies and other investigators to organize search teams which have combed Sauvie Island time and again. Authorities are not revealing if any clues have arisen."

It has always been my belief that LE is focused on SI for much more than one reason. I think they have more than one thing placing TH there on June 4. It's, IMO, a combination of cell phone data (and if she has a newer phone, it's not so much about pings as it is about very specific GPS location data), eyewitness reports, and/or something along the lines of video/surveil. tape or computer records (logging on to a wireless network on SI).

Thanks Shadowboy for that link. It isn't the one I read but says virtually the same thing.

I just have that feeling it is a major part of the case. It has been kept from the public. The closest LE has come to this so far IMO was asking the public to call LE if they saw the truck that morning around 10:30 off either Skyline and Germantown or Skyline and Newberry Rds. The story starts to unfold now. The SI bridge is a short drive from where Newberry Rd hits Hwy #30. And I don't believe in coinkydink like that.

Hey, I'll take little bites at a time. I just want Kyron to be found soon. It is unbearable that this dear little fellow ever fell into the wrong hands. xox

PS: Is there any way to track calls made to the Sheriff at 11am on the morning of the 4th? I know it is in Portugal. LOLOLOL

Just a quick question: Were those cell phone pings ever verified in MSM? By that I mean, by LE stating it was Terri's phone on or near SI on June 4.

Well, doggone it. I'd "quote" more than one person in response, if I could :) Mebedumbass.

Anyway, rosie, ITA. LE wouldn't be throwing continued search resources toward SI if there weren't VERY good reasons. 'Da ping ain't 'da t'ing.

No, still no confirmation by LE in MSM that I've seen. The link upthread from KOIN makes it appear that it's confirmed by LE, but they don't state it and give the name of the LEO as they usually do when MCSO confirms something, so I'm very skeptical of whether MCSO did. They hold info sooooo close to the vest.
