All Things Dick Cheney

Thanks for the info on this. I'll have to read the New Yorker article about it from last year. I never heard of it before! And I have a sister in Paris who works for the OEC and contracts work with the World Bank.

We don't HAVE to resort to the misfortunes of a 78 year old man to find fault and humor with key figures in the Bush Administration. It is just that the idea of our VP actually SHOOTING somebody is pretty amazing and lends itself to such contemplations and remarks. When this story is over (hopefully with a positive result for the poor victim), there are plenty of other misdeeds, miscalculations, and faux pas to keep us busy.

Cypros, Was that you that posted a picture of the Wabbit that shot a Wawyer named Whittington? Good ole' Elmer.

Though I'm late on commenting. I think his list of 10 reasons was a bit of genius. I actually laughed at many of them, and seldom do.

Hi Scandi. Yep that was me with the Elmer Fudd cartoons.

Which 10 reasons? There have been a lot of lists posted on this thread.

Many years ago, I was a Junior State finalist in target shooting. My dad was our NRA qualified instructor. We shot on a range and competed in matches. I beat the s**t out of many boys. We always followed safety instructions. I have in my possession 3 .22 rifles, one .20 guage shotgun and a 30-30 rifle. Every single one is in the house in a totally unloaded condition. The ammo is stored in a separate location. These weapons are used only for "varmits", such as coyotes and skunks threatening our livestock and chickens. We are in a very rural area and I have never hunted. I've totally left a growing herd of mule deer totally alone. I don't shoot pheasants and only go after the above mentioned predators. Did you know that a skunk or racoon will enter a chicken house and destroy all chickens and leave them piled up in the corner and then leave them there? Now the other day, when the weather was halfway nice, I saddled a horse and started down the road. I heard shots being fired not too far away and had to turn around and go home. I certainly didn't want to get shot as there could have been hunters nearby. Hopefully, they were after coyotes that have been multiplying recently out of control. We have young horses and an orphan calf that's just 4 days old, as well as chickens and geese that free range during the day.

My point is that we have guns for a purpose and not for reckless or unsafe use. You cannot hunt in this area without a qualified safety course passage.

I will tell you about a nightmare accident I had when I was a teenager. I was at our country club in Miami, playing golf (and not very well), when a neighbor's boyfriend came up behind me as I was teeing off. My backswing hit him in the mouth. He was hospitalized and sued my parents. Fortunately our insurance took care of it, but he was in the wrong. My parents and I had to pay for his stupid arrogance. BTW, this same 🤬🤬*h**e tried to pass my parents on the right as they made a right turn into their driveway. He drove into our yard and was hit while driving his motorcycle in our road. Yep, you guessed it, he sued and our insurance had to pay up again.

I feel for the VP, and if the attorney did get into his line of fire, then it was definitely an accident. Guns are dangerous if not handled properly and with respect and extreme care. It's a shame that it happened and unfortunately the incident was not handled properly and reported immediately. I hope the attorney recovers and Vice President Cheney has learned his lesson. I do think the administration handled this mess improperly.

Because somebody just MAY die after being shot by the Vice President of the United States of America. This is a big story. Of course the Republicans want it to die.
Well said. Aside from the family of this man and the saddness we take on as a Nation, we are taking on the burden of a VP that wants to run and hide. It is not what Americans would do. If I hit a drunk walking in the middle of the street I would be overcome with grief. We have no grief, no sorrow, no regrets. Just stupid explanations and stupid jokes by a brainless Pres who could be joking about a man that dies.

Do you think maybe Dick would invite Al Gore to go hunting?

OK STOP IT - I KID, I KID.... I JUST HAPPENED TO THINK THAT WAS FUNNY IN A VERY SICK TWISTED WAY AND I MOSTLY APOLOGIZE.

But, since some people thought God said @ss instead of class, and hid behind the door, I should be more tolerant. ;)

If I decided to evenly distribute INCIDENTS from both political parties, I'd be writing for years just to cover the Kennedy clan. Just as I am sure you would take forever with the Bush family.

Now I'll sit on my hands before I write what I really want to write....:hand: :croc:

Thank you for catching that typo, and I was just about to compliment you on your proofreading skills until I realized you missed one.

Thanks BarnGoddess for you post and experiences. I totaly agree if it was an accident it was. Handled poorly and kept from the media, it is a poor example for our young children on how to act in general. We have trouble I think with this generation of kids anyway I think in that they are seemingly self serving we hope for the best of influences for them in life.

My mother has been telling me for years he is a crook and the war in the Middle East was on tap even before Bush was elected, to protect our interest in oil.

In this administration it seems like there is no conflict of interest when a cabinet member can profit by the governments selecting a company to manufacture vacine that this cabinet member is on its board. Same with the oil, Halliburton and Cheney. It is what these kids no see as acceptable. So bad.

I have a hunting query, probably off topic, but..if there are so many pellets in a shot, would that make the bird inedible?

I am also glad to see this thread get back to this incident and away from the politcal mocking. There is a political thread for that. :twocents:

Well, not really. I think most hunters try to get most of the shot out and you kind of chew carefully when eating it--I know I do. Swallowing lead probably isn't the best idea, I suppose. Once you dress the bird and take off all the feathres, it is pretty easy to see dig out shot prior to cooking it.

Off topic, but if you haven't ever tried Pheasant...order one for say Christmas and try it. Excellent eating.

I will apologize in advance that I don't have time to go back and read all the posts and links, but can anyone give me a quick answer to the following ?'s:

- What is this about "it wasn't reported until the next day, so an accurate investigation can't be completed." Then alluding that maybe VP had been drinking prior to the accident? Where is this coming from?! And not reported to whom? (I'm assuming the VP's security is the same as Pres. Bush's, which means there is always USSS, FBI, state and local LE right there at all times. So, why would an accident such as this NOT be investigated by LE just as any other? I guess I'm opposite in thinking as many here, that the investigation would be FAR MORE thorough due to the nature of the VP being involved.) So, please correct me if I'm wrong in that assumption, with any facts that have been reported otherwise.

Thanks!

I'd still rather go hunting with VP Cheney than driving across a bridge with Ted Kennedy...The survival rate is much higher.

Seriously it doesn't matter whether our elected officals are Democrats or Republicans.......we hold them accountable for all of there actions. They ALL have a choice & choose to be above reproach

The VP was wrong in drinking & shooting a gun. Most hunters would be held & questioned on attempted murder. They have to prove they are innocent & it was accidental. I'm also sure the White House wishes it would go away & not be a joke. Not gonna happen, they pi$$ed the media off. Of course its very serious this man is 78 yrs old & any gun shot wounds would of endangered him at his age.

Its horrible W's family is having to deal with this. It was totally uncalled for. If we get DUI's it was our choice to drink & drive . We deal with the law. The VP is no better then any of us here. JMO

Marthatex posted this link on the other thread:

Full Of Holes

At what range was Harry Whittington hit? The official story is that the blast from the vice president's shotgun hit Whittington at a distance of 30 yards. Hunters at the Vaughn Building are skeptical. The hunt took place on a cold, windy afternoon. Whittington and his fellow hunters were probably wearing warm clothing—say, a jacket and a flannel shirt. Cheney was using a 28-gauge shotgun, a smaller-diameter firearm with pellets smaller than BBs. Whittington's friends question whether the pellets could have penetrated his layers of clothing and skin at that range. Yet two pellets lodged against his larynx, another was in his liver, and another migrated into the heart muscle, causing the heart attack. The pattern of wounds was between the lower chest and the forehead, a pretty tight zone for shot of 30 yards. If the range was considerably less than 30 yards, then it is likely that Whittington's injuries were worse than the initial statement by Katharine Armstrong indicated. (The blast "knocked him silly," but "he was fine.")

Hi Cheko1,

See my post up above. Where has it been confirmed that VP had been drinking? I'm not being a smarta** whatsoever, I'm very sincere in my trying to figure out facts vs innuendos. All I thought I read here was something to the fact that VP likes his martinis in the mornings...and after that, is it just people therefore assuming that he drank before going hunting? I'd really like to know.

I don't even know where to start.

First off, you and I would get the same treatment that Cheney got. It was an accident.

I find it laughable that you would even post that someone like you or I in a similar situation would be charged with Attempted MURDER? Was that sarchasm?

It was an accident. If Cheney were loaded and randomly shooting and W died, then it would be something like involuntary manslaughter or similar depending on the jurisdiction. Murder or attempted isn't even in question. Blah, that's laughable.

You guys just can't stand it that you lost. If GWB is such an idiot, what does it say about your candidates that you lost to him? Further that he has been getting it one over on you guys for 6 years now?

I would rather someone say "I hate GWB and will do anything I can and have to do to harm him, including siding with the enemies of our Country".

What does this shooting accident have to do with "You guys just can't stand it that you lost"?? Again, there is a political thread on WS. Stop making this into an us-versus-them (or me-versus-you) diatribe. Please.
