All Things Dick Cheney

I will apologize in advance that I don't have time to go back and read all the posts and links, but can anyone give me a quick answer to the following ?'s:

- What is this about "it wasn't reported until the next day, so an accurate investigation can't be completed." Then alluding that maybe VP had been drinking prior to the accident? Where is this coming from?! And not reported to whom? (I'm assuming the VP's security is the same as Pres. Bush's, which means there is always USSS, FBI, state and local LE right there at all times. So, why would an accident such as this NOT be investigated by LE just as any other? I guess I'm opposite in thinking as many here, that the investigation would be FAR MORE thorough due to the nature of the VP being involved.) So, please correct me if I'm wrong in that assumption, with any facts that have been reported otherwise.

Thanks!
Logic speaks that nothing would/should be released to the media until all family members have been notified and they are brought to the hospital and updated personally.

But, logic isn't a word in all dictionaries, I guess. ;)

It was reported immediately to LE and medical attention was also immediate.
Luckily, he wasn't just left out in the field by himself for 10 hours.
As for the drinking comments? They are as "left field" to many as references to Teddy are to others.
I think some mean to make the crude comments that since Cheney has had 2 DUI's that he will never be above that. Only the LLL can reform, or so they say and think. ;)

IS anyone not in support of this Administration considered an "LLL"?

Cheney Breaks Silence on Hunting Accident

WASHINGTON - Vice President Dick Cheney on Wednesday accepted full blame for shooting a fellow hunter and defended his decision to not publicly disclose the accident until the following day. He called it "one of the worst days of my life." "I'm the guy who pulled the trigger that fired the round that hit Harry," Cheney told Fox News Channel in his first public comments since the shooting Saturday in south Texas.

Cheney described seeing 78-year-old Harry Whittington fall to the ground after he pulled the trigger while aiming at a covey of quail. "The image of him falling is something I'll never ever be able to get out of my mind," Cheney said. "I fired, and there's Harry falling. It was, I'd have to say, one of the worst days of my life at that moment."

Hi Buzz,
Thank-you for the link you posted.:) They said that Cheney would only speak to Fox News.
Here is the link that is on right now;

Cheney speaks

Cheney was soft-spoken and somber during the interview with Fox's Brit Hume.

"You can talk about all of the other conditions that exist at the time but that's the bottom line and — it was not Harry's fault," he said. "You can't blame anybody else. I'm the guy who pulled the trigger and shot my friend."

Cheney said he had had a beer at lunch that day, but nobody was drinking when they went back out to hunt several hours later.

TIMELINE: CHENEY'S HUNTING ACCIDENT

Feb. 11th 6:50PM While aiming for a quail, Cheney accidentally shoots fellow hunter Harry Whittington, striking him in the face, neck and chest with numerous pellets of birdshot. Medical staff, Secret Service agents and members of the hunting party administer first aid.

7:20PM. An ambulance transports the 78-year-old Texas lawyer to a nearby hospital in Kleberg, according to The Associated Press

7:30PM The remainder of the hunting party returns to the ranch house. White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card tells President Bush that there has been a hunting accident, unaware at the time that the vice president was involved.

7:50PM The Secret Service notifies the Kenedy County Sheriff's office of the incident. The sheriff requests the chance to talk to Cheney, and arrangements are made for an interview Sunday morning.

8:00PM After talking with Katharine Armstrong, whose family owns the ranch and who accompanied the hunting party, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Karl Rove tells Bush that Cheney has shot Whittington.

Evening Cheney and members of the hunting party dine at the ranch, and sheriff's deputies who heard reports of an accident arrive to offer help but are turned away, the AP reported, adding that the Secret Service retracted an earlier statement that the deputies sought to interview Cheney.

Feb. 12th 9:00AM Kenedy County sheriff's deputies interview Cheney. Armstrong starts leaving messages for a reporter at the Corpus Christi Caller-Times newspaper

2:48PM The Corpus Christi Caller-Times publishes a brief story about the incident on its Web site.

Actually, the "LLL" know who they are. It's a unique group to be sure. :twocents:

Is EVERYONE who voted for President Bush and in support of the war a member of the RWC? Are they all rich, white business people making a buck on the backs of the poor? Are they all homophobic, anti-abortion, death penalty loving, racist, non-charitable pigs?:snooty:

If people read this site for their information and to form opinions, what would be their conclusions? :silenced:

That's what I thought.

I dunno. Im misread as an LLL all the time. I am a Democrat , I do not support this Administration but I am highly conservative in many areas. I support the Death Penalty , welfare limits and small Government.
But I do belive this Administration is criminal and a threat to our Constitution and our Country and its the not only the right but the responsibility of Americans to stand up against bad Government whatever the party.

shhh...DD sneaking in to ask what a "LLL" is? I know RWC, all I can think of is a LWL...help!

TIA

Hmm that is bizzarre. Hunting small birds in the dark would be difficult.

I thought I had read it happened at a little after 5 pm. because I thought that was getting a little late to see. If it was 6:50 it had to be dark. That is truly confusing. It would certainly explain how you would not see someone and accidently shoot them.

Found this link,

In an interview, Kenedy County Sheriff Ramon Salinas III said Charles Kirk, one of his captains, informed him of an "accidental shooting" about 5:30 p.m. Central time Saturday. Kirk told him that he had been summoned to the ranch to escort an ambulance to a hospital in nearby Kingsville.

There would be a little light left, but not much. I am trying to find how the TX hunting law is written.

2005 Hunting Fatalities Match Historic Lows
AUSTIN, Texas — Hunting fatalities dropped to just two in 2005, down from four the previous year, and matched all-time lows in 1996 and 2002. Only 2004 had fewer total hunting accidents, 29, compared to last year’s total of 30.

“We like to say that ‘hunting is safe and getting safer,’ and it really is,” said Steve Hall, education director for the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.

The state’s worst year on record for hunting accidents was 1968, when 105 accidents were reported, including 37 fatalities.

I live in the DFW area. It doesn't get dark here until 6:30PM or so.
So if Whittington was shot at 6:50PM, would you say that he got shot in the dark??? At 6:50PM this evening check on the amount of light left.

I think this got missed because I editted my post.

So the article has a different time. Where is the link for your article Buzz? I'd like to look at it. Maybe the press has a mix up?

Ok Buzz, I am going to go with your article since it is a Timeline and the whole article is about what time each thing happened. I don't think they would be so dumb as to make a timeline up at CNN. lol
