All Things Related to The Second Mile

I should no longer be surprised when interconnections between people and/ or groups involved in this tragedy are found. But I am taken aback by yet another one. In 7/2011, it was announced that Katherine Genovese, wife of 2nd Mile CEO Jack Raykowitz, was elected to the PSU Alumni Council. I wonder if she can be impeached....

These things, at least at time, tended to go to people active in alumni chapters. I don't think this is too unusual, but it is more of Central Pennsylvania Gothic horror story that we all are living. I've described it as, "Interconnections between individuals and institutions that looks metaphorically as incestuous as the Habsburg family tree."

I looked at the county demographics and at least 55% of the adult population of Centre County either:

1. Goes to PSU (about 44,000).

2. Is employed by PSU (about 23,000).

3. Is an alumni of PSU, by the Alumni Association's definition (about 18,000, but I'm figuring about 2/3 are employed there).

That does not include:

A. Retirees that are not alumni.

B. The children, siblings, spouses, or parents of 1, 2, and 3.

C. People who work in businesses that primarily serve PSU or 1, 2, and 3.

Dated but a good summary of the 2nd Mile involvement in JS's cases; checked and this has not been posted before in this thread:

Let's Not Forget The Second Mile, The Other Big Organization That Did Nothing To Stop Jerry Sandusky

Raykovitz then asked Heim—a local real estate investor and someone who isn't shy about his loyalty to Penn State, the Paterno family and many of the key players in this scandal—if he should relay this to the full board.

"And I said no," Heim said.

"For five years, I worked out at the football facility, several times a week, and saw Jerry showering with children," he said. "I said I don't think it's relevant. It happens every day at the YMCA. I remember the conversation specifically because it seemed like a nonstarter because of what Penn State said went on."

On that advice, Raykovitz didn't tell the board. He did have a talk with Sandusky, and told him to be more careful.

He told him to be more careful. Jack Raykovitz is a licensed psychologist.

According to Ganim, The Second Mile took no action against Sandusky until November 2008, when a 15-year-old boy in Clinton County accused him of inappropriate touching.
