Great updates Cariis and everyone. The plane is completely obliterated. In the Daily mail video of the crash it looks like a burning object comes towards the crash site first slowly followed by the rest of the plane at high speed.

"Officials have been forced to bring in dogs to search for remains at the FlyDubai crash site after the plane was obliterated as it tried to land in 'hurricane-force winds'.

Four children were among the 62 people killed when Flight FZ981 plummeted to the ground at Rostov-on-Don airport around 4am Moscow time.

The plane was carrying 55 passengers and seven crew members from Dubai when it crashed as it attempted to land for a second time in bad weather conditions.
Vasily Golubev, the governor of the Rostov region, this afternoon revealed that the plane crashed around 800ft short of the runway.

He added: 'By all appearances, the cause of the air crash was the strongly gusting wind, approaching a hurricane level.'"

How long was this bad weather going on for prior to the crash could the plane not have landed at another airport nearby if conditions were so bad with hurricane strength winds? Most western and European airports would be closed if the weather was that bad I'd imagine.

Actually, the weather was clear in Ireland. I'm so glad I didn't find out about this until after 4pm yesterday, or I would've been a hysterical mess. My daughter flew back from Ireland yesterday.:scared:

I am so with you - that has to mean that impact was so bad that parts flew they say 300 meters short of the runaway, that is one hell of a debris feidl

4000 thosand feet a minute at that altitude we are talking about an aircraft completly out of control just like Value Jet will do Value in a ninute !

Could the tail clipping on the aborted landing attempt have caused the fire??

It doesn't appear to me to be the solid, consistent shape of a light. It appears to me to be changing a bit in size and shape, ie flickering, like a fire appears to move and change size and shape.

Yeh, it looks like fire to me too - landing light dont leave backward trailing "light" if anything forward looking -- ie landing lights! And the rate of decent was stunning. Anyone see gmas plane coming in like that!

Without a doubt it was an aircraft totally out of control IMO

.

I do not know but when I first saw it I thought it was not on airport grounds like a warehouse off airport but I do not know that!! It sure is cra#py, but then I thought Russia.............

Was visibility so bad they couldn't see and the instrument that shows their altitude was malfunctioning? Maybe they were trying to fix their system during their 2 hour circling and thought they did but it wasn't fixed.

But see, I get very concerned with a two hour circle, like there was something else going on. A missed approach happens all the time. All the time. All the time. All it is a 15 minute realignment.

I was gonna type it out but as you know not my forte!! Speed of decent, seems like fire before impact, reminded me of Valu Jet - not exact but something distacted the pilots for that 2 hours ...

skip to like 2:40 for attn span folks (like myself!) to start with the "event!

oppss Value Jet at that point in time was under FAA investigation for safety cutting. They changed their name right after this to Air Tran! the most awful airline I have ever experinced flight attnedants reminded me of Adoph HItler on a good day -- they were obnoxious.

If your flight was for 700 pm - they so overbooked, that the minute every seat was generating revenue they just left the gate at 640! ANd you were fu$$ed!

This happened more than once to me in fact maybe later, I shall share my experiance with being so totally over this........................just not in typy mood now !!!

Maybe it's just me, but I would never book a flight on an airline called Value Jet. The name just reeks to me of budget cutting, safety cutting. I'd rather pay full price for safety! It's like the K-Mart or Dollar Tree of airlines.

Aer Lingus was a good experience, except that they did not update their flight status on the website nor their app even an hour after we learned on Facebook that they had landed, and they did not have a way for us to track the flight. We discovered on the return flight about flightview.com to track flights in the air!

None of this makes sense-- they reported short of the runway. 300 meterrs.There are mp impact markings,just debris. The early reports of just short of the runway IMO have to be accurate.

Enhanced still images from the airport CCTV are in this new article. The plane does look as if it was on fire before final impact.

"Footage of the moments before the fatal crash of Flydubai FZ981 seems to show that the doomed plane was on fire before it hit the ground.

The shocking video has been broadcast by Russia's Life News and posted tonight on YouTube.

It clearly shows a fast-moving object, said to be the stricken passenger jet, plummeting to earth and already engulfed in flames prior to hitting the runway at Rostov-on-Don airport.

All 62 people on board were killed in the crash which happened at 3.50am local time when it was still pitch black."

It definitely looked like it was on fire before coming down.

From your link, it sounds like it was caused by the plane climbing up into the cumulonimbus clouds which could cause both a stall and a fire.

An international flight safety resource Skybrary, which is supported by the European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation warns pilots about entering cumulonimbus clouds, especially during take off and landing.


and

Cb systems can also cause in-flight icing which changes the aerodynamics of the aircraft and may cause it to stall.
The clouds can also cause electrical disturbance, creating St Elmo's Fire and effecting the aircraft's systems.
