Amscott, the car & the garbage dumpster revisited

Do you think some evidence, etc. was put in the Amscot dumpster?

IIRC they had to wait until they received a certified letter notifying them of the car having been towed. I'm not sure if that takes 2 weeks but I know it can take some time. Before receiving the letter, they had no idea the car had been towed and was being stored at the wrecker yard. Can someone please correct me if I'm wrong?

You're probably correct on that. We'll have a car for 7 days before a letter is sent to notify the owner.

My daughter worked for years for a larger legit checkcashing loan business and is marrying into the family that owns it. Their set up is similar to Amscot. I finally got around to asking her about the camera's at the business she worked at.

She says the cameras where she worked were digital and the recordings are kept indefinitely for two reasons. 1. Digital recordings requires little storage space and 2. fraud, bad checks, and other crimes can crop up months if not years later. So it would seem Amscot should have access to all recordings.

When employees, particularly entrance key carrying managers, arrive and leave at open and closing they are trained to see who is hanging around. They notice people, cars, etc. If the manager at the Amscot said she first noticed the car there at 7am on the 27th, then it was most likely not there at closing the night before.

So, IMO, the video will show who left the car, when they left it, and if anything was put into the dumpster.

Mark Hacking was taped throwing his wife's body into a dumpster.

I am wondering, what could have been "found" in the dumpster? If it was evidence of Caylee's body having been in it, then wouldn't LE and TM be searching the landfill? If it wasn't a body, what was it? Any item like clothes would have been long gone by the time LE searched the dumpster.

Ideas?

My guess is they may not have found anything in the dumpster at this point. But in order to toss a body into a dumpster that high, even a child, chances are pretty good that the body was set on the ground outside the dumpster if just briefly. Those surfaces are almost never cleaned, and are somewhat sheltered from the elements. It's possible they found some forensics on the ground, such as hair or clothing elements.

The above is from Amscot's website at http://www.amscotfinancial.com/financial/pages/orange.asp

So, if they are open 24 hours, then why drop the car there???? I just find it odd.
IMHO, if the body was in the car, it was not in the car at the time the car was dropped off.

Now Amscot is only 3.22 miles away from Blanchard Park

I keep thinking that somehow this area holds the key... Amscot, Sam's Club, and Blanchard Park..

It is late... and I am thinking about some very basic things...
Someone other then Casey must know what happened to this child.
What I keep thinking about is how heavy "dead weight" is, and Casey is a tiny woman. ...

*respectfully snipped*

I have often wondered if Casey had one of those fold up portable strollers in the car and if it's been accounted for...I always kept one in the trunk when my daughter was younger...

As far as the dumpster...I do believe it's possible Casey used one...but I don't think it would be the one right next to the car....
I do however think that car was parked there shortly after one of Casey's last attempt to hide Caylee ( I say last because I still do believe she may have put her in the Anthony's yard early on)

UCF, 24 hours? I would hate to work there in the middle of the night. Talk about scary.

I can't imagine that Casey would have put Caylee in that dumpster if the business was open right there.

I agree with you- I dont think it would necessarily be odd to park the car, but to remove a body? I think that would have been noticed there.

Cindy said "Maybe someone put a body in the car after it was towed to the tow yard."

Um, so is it safe to assume that someone saw Casey's car, put a body in the trunk of this random car, a car that just HAPPENS to be a key point in a missing child case...then decided to come back and remove it? Is that what Cindy is claiming could be a possibility? :waitasec:

I don't know how tall Casey is? Maybe it is recorded somehwere. The dumpsters where I live are quite tall, just wondering how she managed to put Caylee in the dumpster. Again, I don't know how much Caylee weighed but I imagine somewhere in the ballpark of 30 or more pounds. I'm 5'4" and I know I would not be able to haul a small 30 lb body into a tall dumpster. Do you think she had an accomplice? Also, according to LP, he said the car was there at 7:00 a.m. according to the store clerk. Anthony L says he picked her up late morning and she had groceries. She also said the car was broke down. After he went on vac, he called her and asked about the car? Why would he ask about the car? Did you catch that she made up an elaborate story about the dealership where the car was and the names of the mechanics who worked on it?

Just had another thought. They said there were scatches on the top of the trunk. Do you think maybe she stood on the trunk of the car to hoist Caylee's body into the dumpster?

I have long thought Casey probably put Caylee in the dumpster. But if that were the case, she would have likely needed help as the dumpster was fenced in and (assumed) locked.

I thought I read somewhere her car was backed in. Can anyone verify that for me?

Car towed - 6/30/08
Car picked up by George & Cindy - 7/15/08

Why the long wait to pickup the car from the tow yard? Were Cindy & George on vacation? I can't remember. Even the tow person said he thought it odd the car was there for several weeks.

Wouldn't the odor of a decomposing human body have been noticed, coming from the dumpster?

I've read Casey's version was the car ran out of gas just outside the Amscot and two guys pushed it into the parking lot. Well, from looking at the location of the dumpster & where her car would've been, it seems very unlikely they'd pick that spot to push it into especially with the maneuvering that would take. As for it being next to a dumpster, I think the smell was already in the car when she left it there and she put it by the dumpster to mask the odor coming from the car. I don't think she picked that particular dumpster to put Caylee in.

I agree.

If a criminal disposes of a body in the dumpster next to their abandoned car, I would nominate them for one of those "Stupidest Criminals" awards.

My nomination for Second Place for this award would go to the criminal who would borrow a shovel from the neighbor to bury a body.

Third Place would go to a criminal who would take the cops to a months-empty apartment, and tell them that's where she was dropping her child off, every day.

Fourth Place might go to a criminal who took the cops to an office building to find a non-existant office.

But, we are just fantasizing here, NOBODY'S THAT dumb.

Newbie here. I'd visited this site from time to time in the past, and I've been browsing around here since around the time this case broke, but never posted.

Anyway, quick question: What is the generally accepted theory (if there is one) as to why Casey abandoned this car at all? Obviously it did not break down, that's been pretty well established. If it was out of gas, why wouldn't she just get gas and come back and drive away like anyone would under "normal" circumstances? I'd think she'd want to go to a car wash and try to get rid of that smell. It appears that she never intended to come back for the car, so that brings me to my question.

Most people believe that Casey abandoned this car because...______________

She hoped it would be either stolen, or towed and disappear, forgotten, into the tow yard. It was full of stink and full of potential forensic evidence, and she wanted it to just disappear.

Then, she could have told her folks, "You know how the baby got stolen? Well, coincidentally, the car was stolen, too."

So, BTW, KC was waiting for Tony with her arms full of groceries. The car had been in the space since 0700. 1) She would have had her purse with her, when she shopped for groceries? Then, she put it back into the car, and waited for Tony? So, maybe she DID intend that her purse go missing as well as the car, and 2) What time did Tony pick her up? Didn't he say "lat morning?" What did she do with all that time?

After Casey left the car near the dumpster where did she go? Did she walk back to her boyfriend's apartment? If she had called someone for a ride wouldn't they become suspicious about her just abandoning the car?

She called Tony, and told him that the car broke down. He picked her up.

Sorry if it has already been mentioned, but I wonder if she didn't take trash out of the dumpster (pizza etc..) and put it in the truck thinking it would mask the smell. Did LE ever retrieve the bag of trash? If I remember correctly the gentleman at towing yard threw it over the fence, or George did.

George did.
