[h=1]The Vanishing Men of Toronto’s Gay Village[/h]
Toronto Police have established a new task force to investigate a link into the cases. Meanwhile, a town hall meeting is planned for Tuesday at The 519 on Church Street.
By James Dubro

Three of the men are disappearances that date back to 2010 and 2012 involving three men of colour. And even then there was speculation of a serial killer.

These three men are Abdulbasir “Basir” Faizi, 44, and Majeed Kayhan, both from Afghanistan, and Skandaraj “Skanda” Navaratnam, a 40-year-old Sri Lankan refugee who was last seen leaving Zippers with another man. The only other bar specifically mentioned in some of these cases as having being visited by the men is the Black Eagle on Church Street. All three are linked primarily by their dark skin tone, their immigrant status, and for being known to “frequent the gay Village.

The suggestion of a serial killer has not been ruled out by police, however it remains extremely unlikely.

The last known serial killings in Toronto were in the 1990s. One was the work of Marcello Palma, a serial killer who stalked and killed three trans sex workers on the “stroll” on Homewood Avenue over Victoria Day weekend in 1996. Palma was eventually captured and convicted in 2001 of first degree murder of all three killings.

Prior to that, there was the 1993 murder of Norman Rasky (brother of TV documentary film director Harry Rasky). Rasky was a 62-year-old resident of Charles Street in the Village and used to hang around Cawthra Park. His killer turned out be Terry Fitzsimmons, who murdered three people in three different cities over six days that year, including Rasky in Toronto, his hustler boyfriend in Ottawa, and another gay man in Montreal. Fitzsimmons was eventually convicted, but died by suicide in prison in 1995.

Police tell worried crowd at Church-Wellesley meeting they're ramping up investigation into missing men

Two men in Toronto's LGBTQ community have been missing since April and June and investigators have found little.
“We do not have a lot of information for you. I understand how frustrating that must be,” said Peter Code, the Toronto police inspector tasked with leading the investigation, who credited the community for sending an abundance of information.
“The police want to know everything. All information is important because we just don’t know what the next piece will lead us to.”

Harold Barnett, a member of the gay community who lives near The 519, attended the town hall after he became worried when someone slipped a note under his door asking him to meet.
“Is it a pattern?” Barnett, 74, wondered, pointing to the pair’s similar appearances.
Both men used internet dating apps and hung out in the Church and Wellesley area, according to police.

so I dont want to be negative and I hope this man is found but I think we have a serial killer targeting the Gay community.
I actually thought this in 2012? when there were three men in the summer that were reported missing, all men were part of the LGBT community and all of them were from Toronto and in some cases the same neighborhood.

So now we have two more men missing in Toronto who are both gay and missing from the same neighborhoods. Im from the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) and I have two people in my family who are gay and this terrifies me to no end, I truly wouldn't be surprised if there were more missing men not reported on.

Skandaraj (Skanda) Navaratnam, 43, was last seen on Sept. 6, 2010, when he left a bar called Zipperz shortly after midnight with an unknown man near Church and Wellesley.

Abdulbasir (Basir) Faizi, 44, was last seen near Church and Wellesley before he was reported missing on Dec. 29, 2010. His vehicle was later found on Moore Avenue, northeast of the gay village. He was driving his 2002 Nissan, which was found abandoned seven days later in the area of St. Clair Avenue and Mount Pleasant Road in Toronto. Its discovery did not help police find Faizi. (Edit: it says he has a wife so im not sure if he was part of the LGBT community)

Majeed (Hamid) Kayhan, 58, was last seen at a family function on Oct. 14, 2012. He lived near Church and Wellesley and was active in the neighbourhood.

Recent:

Selim Esen was last seen near Bloor and Yonge Sts. He was “quite familiar” with the Church and Wellesley area, police said, and frequents the Ted Rogers Way area.

Andrew Kinsman was last seen at 71 Winchester St. where he’s superintendent of the building near Wellesley and Parliament Sts

EDIT: when you go on google maps and put in each address or last known area for all 5 men the total drive time is 20 minutes if you drove to all the locations in one drive that's how close these men have all gone missing,

Fact: the Bus line #94 goes from Parliament st near Andrews home directly to where Selim Esens general area where he went missing and if you take the 506 (street car?) again near Andrews place (3min walk to stop) the line directly goes to where the first man (Skandaraj (Skanda) Navaratnam was last seen.

All of these men are missing and so eerily close together.

How do I look up missing persons in a certain area? I'd like to research if there are other men missing in surrounding areas as it seems a leap to go from 2010/2012 to now.

Thanks in advance!

Nice to see you posting here jessica!
If you get a chance it would be great if you could also post some of those observations on these threads.
The other man who went missing shortly before Andrew K. did, Selim Esen..

Also a thread for connecting the men who went missing from the same neighbourhood between 2010-2012, individual threads for those men are posted there too, thanks!

Thank you so much!

This article from Vancouver caught my eye, if in fact there is a serial predator of gay men, perhaps he is one who travels, imo, speculation.

[h=1]Recent Stanley Park attacks on 2 men ring alarm bells in Vancouver's LGBT community[/h]
[h=3]'People are wondering ... is there a serial predator out there'[/h] By Belle Puri, CBC News Posted: Feb 08, 2017

A Vancouver police spokesman says there is no evidence to support that concern although the public has been warned not to venture into the park alone at night.

That is interesting!! I'll expand my search to Vancouver area. I'm not familiar with how close everything is. I searched Ontario (where Toronto is correct?) all the way back to 2002 and didn't see any similar cases besides the three in 2010-2012. Granted, the descriptions of the missing on Canada's missing page are slim but when I researched somewhat similar cases (beard or men of color) none stood out as being similar. I even looked at UIDs they had on there. This is so eerie!

I AGREE!!!!! I also found this website for searching. It sucks that Canada doesn't have an all inclusive search engine for missing persons. Andrew isn't even on their main missing persons website. Neither is Selim.

Sorry, should have indicated that Vancouver is just about at the opposite end of the country and Montreal is about 337 miles / 542 km
away from Toronto.
The reason for posting links concerning those particular cities, is because they all have a substantial, imo gay population and well attended Pride Parades.
It is difficult to determine in missing person sites who might be from the LGBTQ community, unless that is specified in the report.

Guessing at this time if any others have gone missing under suspicious circumstances, it would hopefully be reported by now.
Maybe if other cases are brought forward to LE, it might help to make further connections and patterns with these missing men, imo, speculation.

Andrew Kinsman, 49, was last seen on June 26, after attending Pride celebrations in the city.

Kinsman’s friends and family said he had deep roots in the community and it was not like him to simply take off without telling anyone.

Kinsman is described as 6’4”, 220 pounds, with brown hair and a full beard. He has the word “Queer” tattooed on his right arm.

The RCMP’s missing person site covers all of Canada, but thelistings have to be submitted by lead/investigating agencies (i.e. federal, provincialand municipal police forces).

https://www.services.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/missing-disparus/results-resultats.jsf?q=MPA&lang=en

In the upper left of the ^^ search page, if yousort by province, the results will automatically be returned alphabetically bycity/town within those provincial results. Just takes a bit of clicking to getto where you want to be.
