Uh - erotic asphyxiation is by no means exclusive to the gay community. <modsnip>
<modsnip>I’m trying to establish whether an investigator could speed up his/her inspections of these apps. 2010 is a long time for a demon to run rampant. I would think time is the essence, since i believe there may be more than one killer.

How could Project Houston investigators NOT request the computer of any of the missing men???? SMDH

Really starting to question the TPF.

I'm actually appalled. It's not even like they needed to execute a warrant. The families of the missing men would likely want nothing more than for LE to thoroughly investigate in hopes of finding leads. I'd be willingly handing over everything and anything belonging to them in hopes of finding them.

ETA: I passed the information onto Justin Ling, who's been writing phenomenal articles regarding Project Houston and the missing men for years. He seemed appreciative. I'm hoping he writes another little ditty.

Dotr, thank you is simply not enough! :loveyou:

For the record, I'm officially livid by this development.

Add me to the officially LIVID :(.

I’m going to come right out and say it: IMO, it took the disappearance of a white man (with friends and family who wouldn’t shut up and kept pushing) to get LE moving on this :(.

The local community has been TRYING for YEARS to get TPS to react.

[Self-censoring].

I’ve previously given TPS a lot of benefit of the doubt, not doing so any longer.

Rbbm. I couldn't agree with you more. I'm officially done.

Let's lay it out even more:

TPS mishandling of missing persons/murder cases
Laura Babcock, Wayne Millard, Alloura Wells, Tess Richey, Project Houston (3), Project Prism (2). And that's just off the top of my head. I've always criticized this, but I'm not being nice about it any more. This is a complete systemic issue.

Where is the accountability?? What has happened?? They could possibly be somewhat responsible for the deaths of some of these people. IMO they are for TB and WM at the very least. N

Not looking at computers. Not looking at phone records. BASIC POLICE WORK. SMH

There's a 5 year difference between Project Houston and Project Prism. What if they found information from the computers and cell phone records of these three men linking to BM? They could have arrested him sooner, and Project Prism wouldn't even exist as the 2 men wouldn't be DEAD.

Absolutely is the case for TB and WM, as well.

I feel sick.

I think before we tar and feather the TPS, we need a legal beagle to weigh in on. Would they would have needed a reason etc to seize computer??
At first glance I agree with ineptness, shoddy police work..... and it's NOT the first. Maybe we expect too much from them??

At this point, this is a crisis. We are NOT expecting too much from them. We are asking them to take on the most basic and preliminary tasks when someone goes missing. Seizing a computer would likely not require a warrant or reason, as family members would be more than willing to to cooperate.

Sorry AddyFinch, this is a major issue at this point.

Oh don’t apologize, i too think it’s slip shod. I’m just thinking TPS must have to draw the line on whether to fully run with a missing person or not. Can’t imagine the stuff they would need to seize or ask for? But i do think they’ve been dropping the ball lately, but they aren’t alone....

Hoping this will bring everyone together instead of ripping people/groups apart.
Looking for human remains under the spotlight of negativity must be very challenging not to mention, unpleasant work.
This is the time to offer all the support possible, there will be time to review what should of, could of been done later with many lessons to learn, but right now these missing men must be found!

Remember the real enemy is the guy who allegedly betrayed his own community, the shy, romantic, apparently fond of flowers and food, puppies, kittens and bears.
imo, speculation.

Here! Here!

Its very easy to be an internet armchair quarterback. Not so easy to get out there and solve the crimes. Rules and regs. to follow etc, etc.

Obviously TPS has been paying attention to the cases and following leads. If they don't get the answer quickly, not necessarily their fault, many crimes are very difficult or impossible.

Im sure the Sherman family would like answers now too. And many others.

For the most part, I support the police. Not everyone is willing to get up everyday and deal with what first responders do/see/deal with on a daily basis.

Yes, mistakes are sometimes made but their public face isn't necessarily what is really going on behind the scenes. If they want a conviction, they MUST hold their cards close to their chests. Just saying.........

I think that this might not be true. Do you recall in the Tim Bosma murder trial, that the police walked through the hanger at Waterloo, looking for the victim, whom they believed to still be alive. They didn't take anything, but only noted that there was a computer, and possibly some other items such as cell phones. They came back later, with a warrant, and took the computer. The judge ruled that evidence from that computer was inadmissible in the trial, even though they had a warrant, so just taking a computer without a warrant might have some repercussions that are not worth the risk.

I'll hunt up the link to verify ...

True, but we aren't talking about seizing the suspects computer or cell phone/records. We're talking about looking into the property and records of the victim(s) for clues and links.

I don't disagree with you. I'm not against the police, I've worked closely with the best of best that TPS has to offer, throughout my own career. But it can't be ignored that missing persons cases are continuously being mishandled, it's a huge and scary problem. We are talking about the most preliminary steps in a missing persons investigation. Holding their cards close in order to secure a conviction is understandable, but that wasn't even in their sight yet, there was no suspect, because the missing persons cases were hardly being dug into.

I resent being referred to an armchair quarterback when I feel unsafe in my city, and worry that if I god forbid ever go missing, will TPS care?

And for the record, I fully support dotr's post, these missing men need to be found and the only person at fault is BM. We need to come together and offer support and show compassion for these folks, their friends, and their loved ones. But when the time is right, something needs to systemically change within TPS.

Yeah, and in the case of Laura Babcock, her murderer was her last EIGHT calls on her phone. When she was missing, they didnèt even ask who the last person she called was.

THAT is failure to do your job. I will tar and feather. The police force is not easy to get into, and I know many who would have died for a job in that place and certainly wouldn't have turned their backs on someone simply because they were an escort, foreign, or homosexual.

"...Police also said Tuesday that three properties under investigation because of links to McArthur have been returned to their owners...“I can confirm that two properties have since been released back to the owners — the property in Madoc and the property on Conlins Rd. (in Scarborough),” Gray said in an email...Later Tuesday, Gray confirmed a third property on Concorde Place, near the Don Valley Pkwy. and Eglinton Ave. E., was released."
