Angelina Jolie's Baby Delivered by C-Section

Snips:

NEW YORK (May 30) - The African-born daughter of Hollywood couple Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt was delivered by Caesarean section in a weekend surgery and birth that "went flawlessly," Jolie's doctor said Tuesday.

The infant, named Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt, weighed 7 pounds at birth and was described as healthy, though a surgical delivery was necessary because the baby was in a potentially risky feet-first breech position in the womb.

"Angelina underwent a scheduled Caesarean due to breech presentation," said Dr. Jason Rothbart, the couple's Los Angeles-based obstetrician, who oversaw the delivery.

"Brad was with Angelina in the operating room the entire time and cut the umbilical cord of his daughter. The surgery and birth went flawlessly," he said.

"We would like to deeply thank the staff of the Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital for all their kindness and commitment in assuring the successful birth of our daughter," Jolie, 30, and Pitt, 42, said in a joint statement. (More at link)

I have a stupid question. If the doctor was from Los Angeles, is he licensed to operate in Africa?

This has no bearing on the birth info..I just wondered how that worked.

I'm glad it went well. C sections can be really great. Mine were.:p

I dunno how it works. I have a Dr friend that travels often for charity to treat women and children in Third World Countries. Every six months or so she is gone for several weeks to a new destination.

It says he "oversaw" the delivery. In todays world of faxes and internet, X-rays and ultrasounds can be seen almost instantly. What that means is he could have been the "consult" Dr. calling the shots and weighing the decisions while a Dr. in Namibia preformed the actual technique once it was decided upon. This happens all the time nowadays.

I read that and he even says the doctors that assisted him were great..which is also ambiguous.
The only thing I was thinking was that she would really want her own doctor there.
I would think she would be pretty dang particualr about who did the surgery. If one doctor was overseeing it, he's the one i would want operating!

A C-section is a standardized procedure worldwide. There are only 2 ways to do it basically. But the decision as to "when and if" is up to the lead Doctors competence and judgement.

Oh I know..but the scar would be a big deal to someone like Jolie. She would want the best. Sewing the muscles back properly is a big deal.
Plus I really bonded with my doctor.

I should add you are probably right Glow, I was just tossing it about.

This article says the doctor was flown in from Los Angeles--I also heard that on the news. It sounds to me like he did the operation.

Jolie's delivery complicated by baby's breech position

Angelina Jolie's delivery of her daughter in Namibia on Saturday was via a C-section overseen by her obstetrician, who was flown in from Los Angeles, People magazine reported Tuesday. Those were among the new details of the birth that emerged Tuesday, confirming our belief that, despite widespread technological advancements that have nearly covered the globe, it was still a very slow news day.

Anyway, Jolie's obstetrician, Dr. Jason Rothbart, whose name sounds like he should be part of a "Dilbert" cartoon strip, told People he was flown in to deliver the baby by C-section due to breech presentation, an occurrence in which the baby's feet or back end, rather than head, lines up to emerge first from the birth canal. Sounds pretty traumatic, but Rothbart said everything went well and Shiloh Nouvel Jolie-Pitt arrived a healthy, 7-pound girl.

"Brad (Pitt) was with Angelina in the operating room the entire time and cut the umbilical cord of his daughter," Rothbart told People. "The surgery and birth went flawlessly. The staff, nurses and doctors I worked with at the Cottage Medi-Clinic Hospital were amazing. It was a team effort."

Today in the paper it was reported that the Pitt-Jolie name, "Shiloh," came in third in the Worst Celebrity Baby Name Competition. Spice Girl Geri Halliwell came in second with her "Bluebell Madonna" and Penn Jillette came in first with his "Zolten," (which is the name of Dracula's dog, according to Jillette).

So we've got names reminiscent of a dog, a cow (?!) and another dog, respectively. Hmmmm.

I'm happy that the baby arrived and is healthy. It is a cute name... :)

However, I personally don't want to hear another word about these two people (I wish the media would just quit reporting on them). He was married and cheating on his wife, and Angelina was having an affair. I have NO respect for either of these people. And I hope Brad understands that one of these days, Angelina is probably going to dump him. Then she'll run off and be with another man. It will serve him right. Get a divorce dude, then find a girlfriend. Angelina isn't any better. There's a name for someone like that, but probably can't post it here. :(
